So, I am 20 years old, (will be 21 next saturday). That is young to some, ancient to most. I've been probably surfing the internet since 2003 ( I was 10 years old). In my years I had found some very amazing Sonic fan sites, Here recently I get this nostalgic feeling when I find one that may be inactive but still up. the first "official" Sonic website that I first got into was TSF. ( The Sonic Foundation) that website was so amazing...peoples art got featured on the splash page each time you refreshed. it was just awesome. Another website is TeamArtail.com, I spent many days on the oekaki and fanart gallery... ( I was in the new gallery). I miss websites like this..... most of these websites I have mentioned are either inactive , no longer updating or tore down. I find this sad. I know this is going to sound silly, but somehow I want retro try to make fansites popular again. Crazy, I know. I just feel so nostalgic when I am on a website like this. ....I guess my question do you think fan sites can still survive?. the answer: yes! If this one is still alive it's because of it's loyal members! ![]() so I believe someday, maybe not today There will be more fansites!. Sonic Fan sites is what helped me get my art out on the internet before deviantART, I posted on a website called "netraptor". ^_^; I will always remember where my roots are .anyways I guess this is really a not important post...just something I wanted to get out there ... I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way I did.

In the case that this thread is even relevant in this section of the board (I'm thinking it should move to a Sonic-related section since we're mostly talking Sonic here, but meh), I have also had the same experience as you have, surfing the net since I was around your age though it did not totally kick off until I was around 11 or 12. As a young Sonic fan, I used the internet to further feed my obsession with Sonic. Tails was, particularly, a biggie. - I did visit TeamArtail.com, but all I can remember of it now is that blue layout they maintained. - Numerous Tails fan sites, such as Tails Archive, the Miles "Tails" Prower Website, etc. - Of course, I joined the TSRMB and SSMB in 2005 - the RP forum was very popular back then. - The Sonic Foundation (TSF) and Sonic HQ among some of those old sites. - Etc, etc, etc. And, to answer your question: Personally, I think fan sites can survive, but only for so long. Each person that plays a role in creating the site has to be passionately involved with the object of their fandom be it Sonic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, or whatever other franchises. The whole website staff is formulated on teamwork and dedication to keeping their fan site alive. If one member drops out because he or she has found a new passion or is busy with other aspects of life, the rest of the staff will have to either look for a new member to fill the missing role, form a new site, or abandon the website altogether. My personal thoughts anyway. PS: You can always try the Wayback Machine for those old sites though sometimes, it's not guaranteed that you will find full pages. |
