History:
Before I explain things for Miles, I must give you a foundation on this timeline. Essentially Protocol Cy-Fox occurs in a timeline very much like our current one. The major players of course are the Humans of Earth and the Acornians (later Mobians) of Mobius. In the early 21st century, the humans were edging closer to a new technological revolution, with quantum computing and other advances at hand. However progress was hampered by unwise decisions made collectively by world governments and by corporations which created a financial and social crisis.

As with all prior crises, people would rise to the occasion and set things in motion for recovery. The democractic governments had their obstructions torn out by the ballot box. No longer could one occupy a seat in Parliament or in the House of Representatives for a career to fatten themselves with money and power. By the people and for the people was the order of the day and the world began to recover.

Meanwhile on Mobius, the technology and doctrines were close to being 60 years behind in equivalency. The dominant force on the planet was the long standing Kingdom of Acorn. Democracy was a concept unknown to the Acornians as they silently accepted each new sovereign that accepted. The Kingdom provided stability and with that stability, there were those willing to die for Sovereign and country.

There were other minor powers but the largest threat seemed to come from the echindas. This was sparked by an expedition to the Floating Island where the Master Emerald resided. Unearthing the seven Chaos Emeralds, the Acornian forces brought upon their guardians' wrath, locked in combat with them while the Master Emerald reacted with its seven smaller contemporaries. This reaction would cause the Chaos Emeralds to change position in space and time, putting them onto Earth for reasons unknown. The Floating Island itself broke up and the King was rumored to have went insane, ordering war upon the tribes. He was soon succeeded by his son, King Frederick Acorn, who would continue on with the war, pushing development towards Cold War era tactics and weaponry.

On Earth, the Chaos Emeralds were an unexpected boon to research, discovered to be a source of inexhaustible energy. When combined with a particle accelerator for testing, it was determined that the systems could create a stable wormhole. Construction efforts for an anchor and a control system called for a new space station. Thus came the beginning of the Space Station ARK.

Amadeus Erwyn Prower, Miles' father was born on November 15, 2047. He would enter into the Royal Army of Acorn as an officer candidate in 2065 and become officially commissioned as a second lieutenant in 2069, pushed into a front line infantry unit that was fighting the echindas on the frontier. Over time the young fox would demonstrate proficiency in tactics and planning, rising up through the ranks between 2071 to 2082, ultimately becoming the commander of the 1st Royal Regiment back home. His advancement however by victory could never close his ears and eyes to those that died under his command. And with discord forming among progressives looking to end the war, he began to question his allegiance.

That allegiance would ultimately be broken with the demonstration of the first Acornian nuclear weapon, a tactical bomb. King Frederick ordered mass production, intending to bomb the echindas into defeat. Realizing that he would have a hand in assisting in a nuclear holocaust, Colonel Prower started to develop a new plan, to remove his new enemy.

After the humans finished construction of the ARK and the Warp Gate, they had begun to send unmanned spacecraft to the other side to determine if a manned craft could safely travel through. These unmanned craft successfully made it through and began to deploy satellites and sub-orbital UAVs to the first few planets that were found. Mobius was the third planet in the system and the beginning offensive of the Acornians in the 2040s became a hot topic as it was watched.

Debates began as to whether it was appropriate to make contact with the Acornians and the echindas. It was ultimately argued that such contact had to be made under the banner of the United Nations and that it would be a combined civilian and military effort. There were many tasks ahead of them, the UAVs would need to continue to survey the planet to determine if there was any need for specialized equipment to survive.

Fortunately Mobius seemed like a close match to Earth where gravity, temperature and atmospheric content were concerned. All that was left was development of spacecraft as well as the training of the people that would be coming with the fleet. Among those were xenobiologist Dr. Gerald Robotnik, who would leave his wife and his 15 year old son Poul to remain in Sweden.

When the fleet emerged in Mobian orbit in 2084, Amadeus Prower had begun to put his plans into operation. He was able to convince Frederick to put the 1st Royal Regiment in command of the nuclear assets. When the time had come for deployment, he would ground the aircraft. Loyalists within the unit and the King's Guard clashed with the 1st Royal Regiment and Amadeus led an armored assault towards the Imperial Palace. The Guard began to break down part of the 1st's control of the nuclear assets and started to prepare for bombing. Ground based missiles also began to spin up, and the orbiting human forces decided it was now time to make their presence known. As the ballistic missiles rose up into the sky, they would be destroyed by interceptors, the silos hit with kinetic strike rods. UN forces started to deploy from orbit, having superior weaponry and numbers.

Resistance from the Royal Army began but the UN forces were able to shock them into routing. Amadeus and his forces were surrounded as well, but he did not attack. Meeting with the field commander and also with Gerald Robotnik, he served as the first formal contact between Mobian and Human. Explaining the purpose of his assault, he was able to convince the two men that he was to be allowed to continue towards the Imperial Palace with an escort.

The nest however was empty and then Amadeus realized that Frederick likely absconded to the Kingdom's experimental space center, which without his knowledge, also had a cluster of nuclear missile silos under the King's command. Moving onwards, he would lead the fight against his former sovereign, but the fox suddenly found himself downed, a sniper's bullet having taken his left eye. Frederick's shuttle would take off. Having no weapons, it was allowed to pass on undisturbed, the belief being that without any resources and without any survival training, the mad Acornian king sealed his own fate.

Finding himself on one of the orbital carriers that brought the humans to Mobius, Amadeus found that his eye was utterly destroyed, but the rest of the damage was repaired by human surgeons and robots. They offered him a new eye, but Colonel Prower instead asked for a patch. The 37 year old fox was technically a traitor and his actions caused Crown Prince Maximilian Acorn to take the throne. Amadeus then discovered that Maximilian was aboard the same carrier to see him. Having rarely seen the new King, he ultimately subjected himself to his authority. Expecting death or exile with the humans, he was able to get a glimpse as to how different son was from father. The young King promoted Amadeus to the rank of General and to the role of Chief of the General Staff, then promptly abdicated, declaring that the Kingdom was to become a Republic, governed by its subjects.

After recovering from his injuries, Amadeus would withdraw Royal Army forces from the contested frontier and also met their leader Locke. With Frederick gone and no longer able to use the Acornian military to harass them, Locke agreed to stand down his own forces. By 2087, the Republic had held its first elections and by popular vote, Maximilian Acorn became its first president. Now came the rebuilding and turning the new Republic's eyes towards the humans for guidance. Amadeus would also gain a wife, Rosemary Locksley, who was a major part of the anti-war movement.

In 2092, their son Miles was born. However, an unexpected illness would cause his mother to die shortly after childbirth. Grief stricken, Amadeus threw himself into his work, assisting with the formation of Mobius' first space force, the Mobian Space Navy. Miles would find himself under the watchful eye of retired Colonel Jules Hedgehog, his wife Bernadette and their son Sonic, who was older than the kit. Over time, he found himself insulated from the outside world in his room, diving into his academics. His father wanted him to follow him into the Republic Army, but the fox showed his first flair for independence by enter the Mobian Space Navy's Accelerated Officer Candidate Program in 2108.

At the age of 18, Miles had finished the AOCP and was commissioned as an Ensign, specializing in Electronic Warfare. He transferred to the Space Station ARK, becoming the second officer in charge of the EW division there, tasked to ensuring that all communications and sensor equipment were secured and also ensuring that the station's offensive EW capabilities were intact as well. In 2112, he would become a junior-grade lieutenant, specializing in flying Interceptors and also specializing in Armed Security. Finally in 2114, he would become a full lieutenant, taking charge of the EW division.

As part of the first Mobian crew to be integrated with the ARK, Miles would be exposed to a whole new culture. While on leave, he would visit places like Tokyo, Moscow, Berlin, London, Vancouver and Southern California. On his way back from Sweden however, he would be assigned to the security force that would be covering the transport returning them to the ARK. Amongst that transport would be the first female to catch the fox's interest: Dr. Maria Robotnik.

A prodigy much like her grandfather, she specialized in bionic medicine, having just completed her residency on the ARK but returning back to it from a needed break. Unusually tall, she actually stood over Miles by a few inches. Despite that, she seemed to be timid. Perhaps that was because of the man sitting beside her, 1st Lieutenant Abraham Tower of the United States Army Rangers. Tails immediately had a dislike for him and the feeling was mutual. Tower was part of a minority that saw the Mobians as weak, subservient aliens. From time to time, his xenophobia would show on the ARK.

Things came to a breaking point though during the ARK Christmas Party in 2114. Drunk and trying to force himself physically on Maria, the recently promoted Captain Tower was found by Tails, who was still on duty. Disgusted, the fox ordered Tower to stand to attention, being equal in rank but superior by conduct regulations and time in grade. Attempting to fight the fox, he would get a glimpse as to the capabilities of the normally quiet Mobian when enraged. The only thing that saved him from being choked out by Miles was Maria pleading with him to stop. Letting him go, he sent Tower on his way but threatened to have him put in the MSN's brig if there was ever a repeat occurrence. With that act, Tower had lost his grip on Maria and for the first time ever, the fox saw a genuine smile from her and the two began a relationship.
