This is an idea that started out in the Cottage. There's not much to it yet, save for the fact that one or more characters may have amnesia, though the previous conversation seems to promise a bit more to the plot. Any feedback and ideas are welcome!

Well, the idea is inspired by a number of escape-the-room flash games: protagonist(s) with no memory of his/her identity stuck in a locked room or facility with no memory of how or why they got there. |

We could go with that or we could try a different take to the trope. Instead of a normal room, what if he's in some sort of place with dimensional pockets that cause things in the area to react in weird ways. For example, have you ever heard of the game called "Anti-Chamber"? |

Heard of, played, beat. Interesting choice of inspirations, to be honest. Gives me a few ideas to put 'under the hood' so to speak. |

Exactly. I think the main character should try and escape that instead of some boring old room. The idea of the story could expand around Him/Her and why they're there in the first place! |

As was I, but I don't want them to just meet and team up. I was thinking that they could end up working against each other to solve whatever puzzles there are. But wait, that would mean a goal of some sort. What would be a good prize for these amnesiacs... Their memory? Some other thing that they think they need? And there has to be one agreed upon reason as to why they're there, doesn't it? We don't want anything contradicting the plot to the point of no return. |

Well, if the players are running through something like the Antichamber, that would suggest the 'facility' is more like a 'collective mindscape.' I would think I wouldn't have to spell out a probable end-goal in mind, or consequences for failure. Actually, will anyways. Stand by... Basically, someone's taking apart the players' minds for purposes that can only be nefarious. Progress would probably imply putting their willpower and identity back together, and failure would result in 'blanking.' Edited by RabidChoco, Jan 24 2014, 06:03 PM.

That... that is a fantastic idea. Now you're working those creative muscles! Let me add a little bit to this: Only one can return to normal. Another thing, since this is all happening in their collective mindscape, the setting could be made up of different instances in their lives, some of which they might relive without even realizing it. Furthermore, the mind isn't perfect, so there are bound to be some anomalies that can't be explained through memory. |

That first half is assumedly a given (though most of my characters, if aware of themselves, would opt to challenge such an assertion). As for the latter half, I was thinking along the same lines; but since it is a collective mindscape; memories are encountered with no rhyme or reason, and no guarantee the memories encountered by a given player even belongs to them. The assumed antagonist could well throw falsified ones at them in an attempt to make everyone within 'lose.' Of course, if we go this way; any prospective player would have to create their character, piece together the backstory as they go. And that, I imagine, isn't particularly appealing... Said antagonist would do so, but he's trapped their minds there for a reason. I think that's reason enough for them to be safe from false memories, since he screwed up enough already. As for everything else to do with memories, why not. It's the best way to keep the characters connected, and it makes sure that the RP isn't just an elaborate flashback. |

I'd think that the mindscape would mean whatever he did in the first place was only successful in part. Identities were shattered, but some (the players) were able to summon enough willpower to maintain ONE quality so that they aren't left as figurative faceless figures that they may encounter as they wake or wander. |
