Sonic the comic wa a UK-published Sonic Comic that had a much darker tone than Archie's book, and featured some quite radically different characterizations for the cast. Sonc was a jerk and his super form was psychotic as all get out, Amy was a tomboy with a crossbow, Tails was a bit of a coward, etc. the comic also contained many original characters, mostly evil, but some good. It's kinda the reverse of the Archie book, which used to have lots of notable heroes but few notable nasties, Fleetway had lots of great nasties but few notable goodies. The rogues gallery contained such figures as Grimer, assistant of Robotnik, Metamorphia the shapeshifter, Megatox the waste monster, Nutzan Bolt the psycho robot, the Marxio Bros, the Drakon Empire, aliens who invented chaos energy, Fleabyte, Trogg, Brutus, the Btotherhood of Metallix, Max Gamble, Lord Sidewinder, Princess Kupacious, Colonel Granite, Death-Trap, Vermin, and many one off threats. In addition, a number of joke supervillains showed up as well as the serious threats mentioned above. On the other hand, notable heroes were relatively few. Johnny Lightfoot and Porker Lewis were members of the main crew for Sonic. Tekno the Canary was Amy's buddy. Shortfuse the Cybernik, a squirrel in robot armor, fought Robotnik to get himself out of the armor. Ebony, a magical panther, fell in love with Sonic and briefly broke the Super Sonic curse. Morain was a fox warrior from the Nameless Zone who helped Tails in his journeys there. Captain Plunder and his sky pirates alternated between a help and a hindrance. Other than this, most heroes were pretty forgettable, like the Flock and Marcel Skunk Even though it ended in 2002, a continuation is being made online. It's notable because it portrays Rouge as truly villainous rather than just a big jerk. She makes her Archie version look like a saint, and has no redeeming qualities to name. Even Fiona and Lien-Da in the Archie book were cute, but this version of Rouge is so evil as to be revolting.

I wish we got this here in the States, but I read many issues last year and I love it! I am probably going to read them again as I can't remember which issue I stopped on but I would love to check out the newer issues as well. Thank god for Sonic the Comic online.
