Final Fantasy X-3 Possibly Confirmed?; Warning! Spoilers for FFX and FFX-2 inside!

Leaked from the upcoming X | X-2 Remaster, voice drama spoilers have suggested that a X-3 is inevitable. Pics inside. Earlier today, the same scenario writer said he wanted to always make a X-3 prior to this leak being spread.

Keep in mind that if you're planning to play FFX and FFX-2 for the first time with this HD collection, you should stop reading. I was tempted to put everything regarding the article in spoiler tags but then I figured it will basically involve the entire conversation. You are warned!

Following our previous report on the possibility of a Final Fantasy X-2 sequel, details have been posted online describing several spoilers from the HD Remaster’s 30-minute voice drama that plays following the game’s credits.

From what we know, Tidus and Yuna call off their relationship at some point as she sets off to defeat Sin again, who has somehow reappeared in the world of Spira. Written by scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, the voice drama takes place after the events of Final Fantasy X-2 and it along with the 2.5 novel attempt to expand the universe started by Final Fantasy X.

Also included within the epilogue are two new illustrations of Tidus and Yuna as well as two of the new characters that make an appearance during its story.

I for one am more open to a X-3 sequel, especially if it keeps the dark style of the original FFX instead of the slightly fanservice-y X-2 (I liked the ending for the sequel, but I was a bit mixed on the direction they took in tone). But I have a feeling I'm not going to like the angsty that will likely erupt from several people.

Why.

Whyyyy.

This was all tied up, why the hell would they go and just blow it open again with "suddenly Sin came back. Heroes ASSEMBLE." This is the stuff of bad fan fiction.

I'd be more open to this idea if they didn't base it around that. I don't particularly care what Spira destroying thing comes up, but don't just pull things we defeated completely for no reason other than "we need an end boss, guess the original will do".

FFX is probably my favourite Final Fantasy, but I don't want to see it become another XIII.

I have zero hype. Only concern.

Probably because they want the story connected to the original in some sort of way instead of just a random new conflict. Granted, if this is true, they better have one hell of an explanation.

As long as Square doesn't have a cliffhanger ending setting up a X-4, I won't mind.

Idk how to feel, if this is true, I wouldn't mind seeing a FFX sequel simply because it's one of my favorite FFs. I don't know, I just can't say no to that if it's continuing what made the original so successful. Although I'm hoping that they focus and release FFXV first.

I can understand the worry though, seeing Square is getting so sequel crazy. Keep in mind this is still just a rumor too.

They shouldn't have even done X-2 in the first place from what I've heard and with their best teams working on FFXV, I have no hope for a X-3. What don't they get? We never even wanted a XIII-2 and now they have XIII-3 coming. These sequels just keep prolonging a story no one cared for. XIII was one of the worst received FF games and they keep forcing it on us. I'm so glad we can move on once XV comes out.

For me personally I only rented FFX and never played it all the way through so I definitely plan on getting this HD collection to itch my craving for FF that was left void by XIII's crappy linearity. I feel FF will never be what it once was on Snes and PS1. FFX from what I played was great though but I can't remember much of it at all.

Square actually asked fans if they wanted XIII-2 and it apparently met the demand to expand Lightning's character. As for XIII-3 aka Lightning Returns, I'm not sure... but it remains to be judged. Granted, XIII-2 is a great game, sounds much better than XIII from what I heard, and I might give more proper mini reviews when I play them both on the PS3 (the sequel I'm basically playing again, this time on my own console). As for X-2, I liked it for what it is. The battle system was really good. It just took the tone of the original into a completely different direction. The ending was sweet but it sounds like if this is true, the HD collection is going to pull a Portal and have more extra scenes hint at more plot, which is why I'm skeptical. At least don't be so harsh when you haven't played the said sequels yet. xP;;

I can understand any worry though, but as someone who finds the original FFX one of my favorite RPGs and liked X-2 and loved XIII-3, I'm somewhat open to the idea, if done right. The original scenario writer for FFX would be behind this anyway, not the XIII team.

This makes me sad. FF6 is being remade and put on mobile devices, but no, we get shit like this on consoles. Its sad that more and more companies like this are going over to mobile devices, thinking many people will want to play full length games on them. Chasing that money is always a bad business tactic IMHO.

- Final Fantasy X
- Non-linearity

Pick one.

FFX was a fairly linear game. There was no world map, and the airship only granted you access to any of the locations you had already been to plus a few hidden ones that contained bonus stuff if you bothered to find them.

But it was handled in a pretty good way. Dungeons themselves had a few winding paths to explore and the temple puzzles encouraged exploring all your options. The lack of world map to explore allowed you to experience the world's locations in detail, which was nice. But at the end of the day, it's still mostly linear.

As for X-2, it was a decent game. Brought back some old conventions (ATB, Job System [Dresspheres]), was much less linear than the original and covered Yuna's life after being a summoner as well as the changes taking place in a post-Sin Spira. While I wouldn't call it a necessary sequel, it wasn't like they just undermined everything that was done in the game that came before. Good sequel is good.

Based on these rumours, X-3 is not a good sequel. Cause it pretty much undermines everything that took place in the original. I know Sin coming back was something established in the original game, but there was a reason for that. A reason that was taken care of so nobody would have to worry about it again. So why would they suddenly go "oh wait no it comes back because Sin is eternal or something okay? okay". The concept rustles my jimmies a bit, for sure.

I wouldn't say remade. Plus, I don't see the problem with ports of existing games. It's not like they destroyed previous versions. Porting FFVI or other previous FFs or ports of any previous game to mobile is fine. If they announce that Final Fantasy XVI though (tl;dr pull a Capcom) is a mobile exclusive then I would rage.

The thing is is that if this is true, then it would be from the original writer I think of FFX, not from any new team or writer or anything, who said he always wanted to do a X-3. So clearly he had ideas for a while now, which is why I feel like I'm the only one somewhat fine with this. I'm still skeptical, and I can understand the rest of you being wary, but having someone from the original team is putting me somewhat at ease. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

EDIT: Okay, strike that, I saw someone put a translation and I can't tell if what the previewed of the possible storyline is really serious (It does seem too detailed for a preview but Idk what this preview is like) or just badly mistranslated, so my worry scale is back to being cautious again. You can tell by my mind fluttering I'm very mixed about this. But yeah, I'm just as worried as everyone else, but I'm going to at least wait and see.

I LOVED FFX..it's my favorite game of all time..as for FFX-2, I didn't love it even half as much..I felt very dissatisfied with the ending, like we needed more..if FFX-3 could bring more Yuna and Tidus then I can't complain. I always wondered what happened next in their story.

I think Sin randomly turning up again is a little bit annoying.. very annoying actually considering all they went through to put him down, it just doesn't make sense. But the whole time that I was playing XIII and XIII-2 I kept thinking to myself "wow, what if they could've done ffx in these graphics??" And maybe with a FFX-3 I'd be able to see it..

So basically, no matter what they did with the story I would still support it, just because I love the characters and the game that much.

The more I have heard about this possible FFX-3, the more I've disliked it. It sounds like a bad fan fiction.

Making Sin appear again (possibly? I'm trying to be hopeful for it being just a bait and the real antagonist to be different being) kinda makes FFX's ending victory cheap...
I'm not exactly interested in the relationship drama either - yeah Nojima likes to ponder about the hardships of a relationship and that is a cool thing, but what sequel hasn't had main character couple angst?
It's hard to say more at this stage this being just a rumour now, but it doesn't seem good if it causes this sort of uproar already when it's still just a rumour. It could have potential, but maybe I've grown up too cynical with Square to believe that would be executed well enough. :"S

What I'd have loved to see as a FFX sequel would have been the adventures of Jecht, Auron and Braska.

The Jecht Auron and Braska storyline has always been an interest of mine too. Auron is one of my top favorite Final Fantasy characters, it would be awesome to see more of his past

I'm looking forward to the HD collection and XV, that's it. Lighting Returns and a possible X-3 are not on my radar. I hope XV can live up to the hype. We know it's not at all like X or XIII as it's very open like older FF games.

Not really no. There has been hardly much footage (none actually) seen since E3. It could be just as linear, which linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there's been nothing indicating to me it's open. I do hope you know that XV has already been confirmed for sequels.

And Neo, I'm curious. How many main series games have you played?

It has been revealed to be open with an airship for travel by interviews with Nomura back when it was Versus XIII. Although that's all old info so it may have changed. Don't care about the sequels at all unless they are the same fidelity of XV.

I only owned one and that was VIII and XIII. Got very far into VIII, got kinda far in XIII but got bored of it. Briefly played VII, X, and XII. I just want a new FF that captures the magic of the PS1 versions(never played the ones before that). There are lots of other great jrpgs out there but FF always had something special to it until last gen.

Ah, right, I knew there was an airship but I forgot about those interviews so I dunno if it was going to be like X or not. Although yeah, I don't know what pre-E3 info is relevant anymore. Do hope to see information soon but probably not until this E3.

But wait, you never even beat a game? xP;; I think it will be very different from the PS1 FFs though simply because how the combat is rather action-y. Although in terms of story, I agree and do hope they give me that same charm the said PS1 games give, seeing Nomura is behind the helm. As much as I loved XII and XIII for their opposite battle systems and gameplay (XIII's I think is the best in the series), the stories hasn't given me real feels since X (XIII's has confused me several times, XII's was good but simple).

Although, fear we may be getting a bit off topic here haha. It seems like the chances of X-3 becoming a thing is slowly increasing, seeing the -Will- video drama and the X-2.5 short novel. I might not mind what I saw in it if it wasn't for a certain thing involving Tidus mistaking a bomb for a blitzball (might be how the translation worded it but it was hard to take seriously). I think I need more details before judging anything.
