Ok, so i was just browsing the interwebs, and this came up about my favorite show........ If this is your favorite show too...you may feel a little..sick. And dead inside. Just warning you now.
Spoiler: click to toggle

This is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I mean that was not only uncalled for, but there were a lot more worse things than this. I mean, we have other stars doing far more unspeakable things on public television and in magazines and they called that "freedom of expression." However, when someone like Phil Robertson does something simple like expressing his faith, we all go crazy. JUST NOT FAIR AT ALL. Anyway, discuss...or not.

Good vibes.
"Freedom of Expression" applies to what the GOVERNMENT can do. Like it or not, your employer can pretty much do what they want. If they want to fire someone because they might bring controversy they don't want, it's within their right.

Ok, but try telling that to the Robertson clan.

Quite frankly I completely disagree with him, however it was quite obvious what his answer would be to the question. I feel that they set him up for this, and honestly even though I hate his views on Gay Marriage everyone has the right to their own opinion. Plus he didn't say it on camera, and they only posted half of what he said. Rumor has it that A&E cave in and brought Phil back, but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

AND PLUS, they're saying that he may not be a REAL PERSON. I mean "What the firetruck?"

Why Reality Stars Like Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson Can’t Be Real

When Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson opened his yap to GQ magazine, he probably didn’t anticipate the firestorm of controversy that would follow it.

He told Drew Magary: “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong. Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

While Robertson’s comments were immediately called out as homophobic and while some like Sarah Palin quickly jumped to his defense under the rubric of free speech, some viewers seemed surprised that their favorite cuddly Southern rednecks weren’t so cuddly after all.

That reaction was astutely mocked by Seth Rogen on Twitter, who wrote: “It's strange that A&E hired a guy for being a backwoods redneck and then were surprised when he started talking like a backwoods redneck.”

In other words: obvious thing is obvious.

Current reality TV’s entire premise has been to put people that represent a stereotype together and let them live up to that stereotype—within reason.

We’ll overlook the icky stuff to relate to the good stuff. Honey Boo Boo might be crass white trash, but she’s also sort of adorable and hilarious with a loving mother and family. Jersey Shore’s Guidos are obnoxious drunks, but Snooki’s kinda cute and tiny and the Situation seems like he’d be a good cook. The Real Housewives —any city, any season—are materialistic, plastic surgery-addicted, catty women, but at least Vicki in Orange County has an actual job.

The scrubbed version of the Dynasty clan lets Americans, especially those who might not otherwise choose to spend their time with religious fundamentalists from the South, relate to the cast. We want a glimpse inside the lives of Guidos, hicks, or gold diggers, and we want to watch them perform for our amusement. But if the Guidos or hicks or gold-diggers behave in an unsavory way that make us feel offended and uncomfortable rather than smug and self-satisfied, we’d likely shut off the TV. And nobody—least not advertisers—can have that.

“It’s commerce,” says Tim Brooks, a former network executive and TV historian, the co-author of the book, Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows, 1946-Present. “If you want to do a TV show on a widely distributed network and get a big audience there are certain rules.”

Robert Galinsky, Founder of the New York Reality TV School who coaches and trains hopefuls for shows like Survivor, Project Runway and The Voice, says: “One hundred percent of the personalities are scrubbed in the editing room and it's never for our benefit, it's for the benefit of profit. The producers scrub, the director scrubs, the pawns—I mean cast members—scrub, but the ultimate scrub-a-dub-dubber are the show and network lawyers. They have the final say and they only care about protecting the value of the network brand and advertising brand relationships involved.”

Don't watch the show myself, but heard about it elsewhere.
Pretty sure it was a set up; these activist groups are full of such hypocrisy...
Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk.

Um, who called for Phil to be taken off the show?

This all sounds a bit bizarre, I have never watched the show, but these activist people can be pretty extreme at times so it is of no surprise they all got in a flap and caused issues for the guy.

It's dumb... So he doesn't believe in Gay marriage? A lot of people don't and it is NOT a hate crime to not support something, it only becomes a hate crime if you treat them differently than other people. He has a backbone and stands for what he believes, A&E does not.

Anyway I don't really care but I side with Phil for not bending over to society and the mentality that people should be politically correct all the time.

I have never seen Duck Dynasty, I didn't even know what it was. But yesterday, my aunt's family was gathered around the table talking about it. They were all pretty disgusted, as was I. Basically what I gathered from it was that he spoke out against gays and compared it to bestiality or some ridiculous thing like that. He was also quoted as saying that

"Blacks seemed pretty happy before the Civil Rights Movement... singing in the fields and such." (Note: not a direct quote)

Which, as a descendant from these same "Blacks" I couldn't help but bust out laughing. This dude is obviously a total ignorant bigot prick who has no idea what he's talking about and deserves to get kicked off the show. I'm pretty sure somewhere in his contract with A&E there was a term like, oh, I dunno, "Don't go into interviews and say hateful and mind-numbingly idiotic, racist, homophobic things." So yeah, good riddance.

EDIT: One cannot even write this off as him having "backbone" to "stand up against society" or whatever ridiculous excuse can be mustered for this tard. Now imagine if a gay person on a popular show went into an interview stating "Yeah, all straight people have murderous hearts and straight people are basically committing bestiality"... Can you imagine the uproar? Double standards. If you're in the public eye, you basically have an unwritten (and in some if not most cases, written) moral code to watch your mouth and be as politically correct as possible. This dude is just a redneck who happened upon fortune and now the media is exploiting him. He's no better than any "gay" or "black" that he's so quick to start talking about and judging.

I'm actually pretty disgusted, reading this thread, to find that most support lands in his favor. I never would've thought we had so many... whatevers, here. "Whatevers" being my substitute for any kind of word that best labels the category that this Duck Dynasty guy and all of his supporters may fall into. I'm not getting banned for name-calling, but if you support a guy who openly sh*ts on gays and blacks, you have a problem.

I got a good 3-part argument and a piece of drunken stupor for you, Kitty.

1) Pretty sure they fished for the answers that would tick off the most people, for the sake of selling mags.
2) What -was- published probably was not the entirety of the interview.
3) The groups that cried foul are the kinds of groups that label any disagreement with their tenets as "intolerance."

and

DS) The same belief system that equates homosexuality and bestiality also equates them to murder, lying, stealing, and eating ham; and despite this, is the basis for THREE of the most widely practiced religions in the world for reasons entirely unrelated to it.

Don't know what the interviewers were fishing for, don't entirely care. In cases like this you don't look for the cause you look at the effect. Uncouth, uneducated hillbillies should stay out of the limelight for reasons just like this. They are just gonna tick people off and make themselves hated and look stupid. This has nothing to do with religion whatsoever, he insulted at least two different groups of people... And why? To be funny? To look stupid? Because that's how he really feels? Doesn't matter, he shouldn't have said it. Bottom line. There is no excuse for behavior like this, no matter how much "Whatevers" try to rack their brains and come up with one.

EDIT: You're gonna have people on either side of the fence who are gonna "cry this" and "cry that" when the bottom line is, you don't say homophobic and racist stuff like that. You just don't. You deserve any punishment coming towards you.

I'd also like to reiterate that this has extremely little to do with religion... Actually, nothing. Bigots will scrape the Bible with tweezers and a microscope to find excuses for their judgmental ways when truly, Jesus himself condemns these kinds of people! But religious nuts love to overlook that little tidbit. Shaking my head.

And you're absolutely right to be outraged.

What outrages me, though, is that those that are supposedly maligned by this guy do plenty of public maligning of their own, but they don't get gotcha'd and sanctioned like Robertson did.

That's just too bad for Robertson, now isn't it? Not everyone is gonna get "gotcha'd". Although that is the case, that doesn't mean that he should get off scot-free. Life isn't fair, buddy. Especially when mama didn't teach you to watch your mouth.
