Considering how long this thing has been out, I'm honestly surprised that there are no other threads about this. At least none that I can see. But yeah. Basically a top-loading Wii. Minus the SD card slot. Minus the GC compatibility. Minus the Internet connectivity. This video explains it pretty well. WARNING: A bit of swearing with this one. |

Ok......maybe it's an experiment. All i can say on this. This could be just for people who don't have internet connectivity, and don't own a gamecube. There. That explains it. And plus.....This isn't official, isn't it? Because i'm looking at my Youtube feed for Nintendo, and they have nothing about it. No video, No Nintendo Direct, no nothing. Sources, kid. Sources make all the difference, not just some YT vid. |

Yep definitely real. I saw it in the shops too. Here's your source, a quick Google search or just looking at Nintendo's official website might help. ;p But yeah, it's been out for awhile here and I haven't heard much about it either, which is weird. The Wii Mini's demographic is just like the 2DS, for the kids - and for their parents who don't want to spend too much money on a old console. It's more family oriented. To play games in large groups, etc. You don't need internet for that. To be fair, the price is a little bit too high, but for what it's worth, it's a smart move from Nintendo nonetheless. Idk... The Wii hasn't been supported by Nintendo for awhile and pretty much dead water now with the WiiU out. They already stopped making them in Japan. It would be great for a collector that never had a Wii in the first place... Otherwise the PS3 is still going strong and the 360 is too to a lesser extent. The 2DS makes much more sense because it's a cheaper alternative to a current system that is still in its prime. |

what is backwards compatibility This strikes me as another 2DS move. They're probably getting rid of excess Wii parts laying around and putting them in a cheaper to produce model since it lacks some of the bells and whistles of the original Wii. A smart move on Nintendo's part if it works, though I'm not sure it will considering the Wii U is still out and all the new games are coming out on that. Not to say the Wii library is horrible: there's some really solid titles in there. Just a matter of tracking them down. I kind of like the design to be honest. And it comes with a WiiMote Plus too, so that's a bonus. Plus a game to play right out of the box. Not that bad of a price all things considered. Based on the title of the video alone I can tell that's going to be another entitled rant so I'm not going to bother with it. |

I have to call you out on something here, the Xbox 360 has for most of the last few years sold way more than the ps3, and recently in america the 360 outsold even the ps3 by almost triple on black friday, its not successful to a lesser extent, the 360 and ps3 are basically tied. Anyways, my thoughts on the wii mini, its a waste of money. I look at this and I just laugh. I can get an almost brand new wii off amazon for half the price, and it would play gc games and have internet. to me it seems like nintendo is just throwing out different variations of the wii and ds and hoping one of them will bring them back to the top like they used to be Edited by Naomi Kitsune, Dec 3 2013, 03:26 AM.

To be fair the internet isn't really that big of a loss on the Wii. I can't really think of that many titles that made use of it (though Mario Kart Wii is one of them). And they've been selling models without the backwards compatibility for a while now. This is obviously aimed at kids who never owned one in the first place, in which case it's pretty likely they didn't have a Gamecube in the first place either. They couldn't care less so long as the can play some fun games on it. That's probably what they're counting on rather than sales from the customers who know about its upsides and downsides. |

You do know Nintendo still has piles of money and while the Wii U had a slow year (picking up though with games like Pikmin 3 and 3D World), the 3DS leads all system in sales, right? It's just something for kids. Not like they're discontinuing the main models. Not sure why people can't wrap their minds around that. |

In North America, yes, but not worldwide as PS3 has been outselling it in by a considerable margin in the past few years. They are neck and neck in total(with PS3 being slightly ahead) but the 360 was out 12-18 months before the PS3. We don't have Black Friday figures from this year yet either. Not that it matters, the point I was making wasn't related to sells at all. I was referring to games. PS3 has had tons of exclusives this year with more already scheduled for next year. The reason I said the 360 was to a lesser extent was it has had only one exclusive in 2013 with none scheduled for next year that I know of. However, it still has popular multiplatform titles coming out for it though(battlefield, assassin's creed, titanfall, destiny, watchdogs) whereas the Wii really has nothing at all. That is what makes this significantly different from the 2DS. The 2DS is an alternate version of a system that's still very much alive and kicking(best selling system out there currently and just surpassed N64 totals) and the Wii mini is an alternate version of a system that has been dead for some time. Therefore I don't see the demographic being the same as the 2DS's. Edited by Neo Metallix, Dec 3 2013, 06:12 PM.

Added to that, Wii Mini has been out in Canada and in the UK for over a year at this point, and it failed considerably there. So I honestly don't know what Nintendo is thinking bringing it to the U.S, considering, as Neo has already stated, the Wii is dead, and Nintendo SHOULD be focusing their attention on the Wii U. |

They are. The Wii Mini has little to do with anything and would likely not hamper any plans. And I don't need to say how huge Nintendo is. It's not like it will take away the company's entire schedule... in fact, hardly any. If you're disappointed with the Wii U and its slow start, I can guarantee that the reason for it isn't "Nintendo is putting all their time and effort into the Wii Mini" if that's what you're getting at. I'm starting to wonder what the point of this thread is as it seems like you created this just to vent rage really. |
