Nintendo 2DS

Nintendo will be launching a new portable gaming system in October. It's called the Nintendo 2DS. It's a 3DS without the 3D, and it's shaped like a thin piece of cake.

"This is an entry-level handheld gaming system," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku earlier this week when we got our hands on the unusual device.

I hope this is a joke.

Ah.

...I may end up with it at some point, if only because it's cheaper and I don't really care for 3D.

Darn. Got beaten to it.

Anyway, I don't really care about it. It just looks like it's something Nintendo is making for little kids, as people under the age or around seven are suggested to not play with the 3D on. Overall it's just something Nintendo is appealing for a smaller audience, though Nintendo really isn't making things easier with their choice of names.

Sticking with my 3DS obviously. 3D is nice and I prefer having my 3DS to fold when taking it around. I mean, I think the core concept makes sense... but that design bothers me. Don't want to lunge around a case for it. :|

Thanks for sorting that out for us Nintendo. ^_^

You know, I might actually get this.

It is cheaper, and 3D kinda gives me motion sickness. As long as they release at least one Sonic game on it at some point, I will probably buy it.

Big The Cat is extremely underrated.

You can turn the 3D off? I don't get why that is such a big deal. ^^;

yup. Nintendo offering an option to parents who have problems with their kids playing in 3D. it can hurt the eyes at times. This will be safer, not to mention more affordable.

It's a 3DS without the 3D. There IS at least one Sonic game that you can play on it (Sonic Generations), and one coming up (Sonic Lost World).

I find the design alittle absurd. Is it that hard to make it fold like the original 3ds?

The 2DS is aimed at children, and children easily break a DS (apparently). I don't like the design either but marketing wise it's very smart.

I'm honestly okay with this, it's a more affordable console that still plays the games. Sure it's a big bulky handheld, but back in the day we had to deal with big bulky handhelds too. Plus it's in mono! xD It's sort of retro in a way, I own a 3DS already so I won't be getting one but this is a good idea for both younger kids and gamers who are sensitive to the 3D. Plus at $129, it makes it affordable for gamers and parents alike. But the thing is, I betcha parents are going to get confused and ask "So where are the 2DS games at?" :V

Yeah, my friend pointed this out to me the minute I was out of bed. I don't really care too much since I've got a 3DS and there's no reason for me to go out and buy another. If I'm upgrading it's to an XL.

I think this would be a pretty sweet budget option if the thing could actually fold. I've never been hugely fond of using the 3D on my 3DS (I occasionally put it on with a new game to see how well it's implemented, but drop it sooner or later) anyway. Though only one speaker is a bit eh too. But at the price, I s'pose one can't complain.
