Thank you very much Ravenfreak, that makes me feel much better  I'm glad that I can relate to you. I will try to not talk about Sonic to my mom as much. I knew I wasn't messed up in the head. Yes I remember that girl at Sonic Boom. I wanted to say something similar but was too shy to say it in front of everyone.

From what I just read, it just seems like a ongoing fantasy. If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much. I'm almost 100% sure you will grow out of it eventually. But like Raven said, finding people with the similar interests as you will probably help. |

I understand where you are coming from on this. I'll just say this before I say anything negative about it. Sonic is essentially the good qualities in humans personified in an anthropomorphic form so an attraction to him based on these qualities is not essentially crazy. It just means you are attracted to the qualities he displays. Physically...well I don't really have an opinion on that. If it were just a simple attraction then I don't see any real problem with that. It's very common. However, it's when you start wishing that he were real and wanting to marry him that it starts to become a problem. If you go out of your way to avoid dating other guys/girls so you wouldn't feel like you were 'cheating' or something that it becomes a problem. The reason for this being is that you form such a strong emotional attachment to something that does not exist physically. He can not speak to you personally, he can not physically be there for you or be anywhere outside of the media. That is when it can get distressing at times and you shut yourself off from society more in an effort to be closer. Not saying you are doing that of course but it does happen and the results are always depressing to see when eventually it all comes crashing down. That would be why your councilor is concerned. |

Lord Sillynipples makes a very good point - Sonic has been created to be an overall good guy and likeable individual, and as he says there is nothing wrong with admiring the characteristics of a character but it does become damaging to you and others when you want that fictional character to come into being so much so you sacrifice personal/real life relationships. Wasn't there a girl on line on the Sonic forums who wound up making her own site as she was in love with Sonic the Hedgehog? To the point she had "married" him online? It gets a point where you need to sort of wake up and smell the coffee you know? It's sobering and your counsellor has a right to be concerned, but if it is merely just a little fad you're going through, that's fine. We all go through crazy things when our hormones are trying to make us into who we will be. |

There was and still is indeed a a girl who "married" Sonic.I knew her once, Alix Henriol, nice enough person but also a diagnosed schizophrenic with a long history of institutions and self harm. Oh, and extreme paranoia. |

Alix, that's right. I remember I spoke to her on and off back in the days of MSN but we drifted. She was a nice person, I agree but she did have her fair share of issues, it was tragic in a way. Sonic was a great comfort blanket for her. Poor lass. |

That's really cute Nado! I think when people are young they do have crushes on cartoon characters because it is your first experience with people outside of your family. For instance when I was really little my first crush was Basil The Great Mouse Detective because he was the first exposure to a voice I found appealing, a personality I liked that was outside of my family circle, but then once you start school and meet people and learn it should fade. I hope that'll be similar for the original poster too. |

I agree, I think just about everyone has a crush on a character at some point in their childhood. I don't think it's anything to hhave to worry about. I personally used to loveee Shadow when I was ten years old..lmao |

Hey everyone! Here's a nice update that I think you'll all be pleased to hear about. I've found someone to love! It turns out, I was looking for the wrong person. I've discovered that instead of men, I like a woman as a partner better. So...I have a girlfriend now and her name is Emily. We both share the same interest in video games and making artwork so we get along very well. Only thing is, I live here in the US and she's all the way in Austraila. I hope to fly over and visit her someday though, once I get a job to make money for the plane ticket. I just wanna say thank you to all those who helped me. |
