Walkers, Walkers everywhere

Oh boy. I didn't want to do this. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY didn't. But, seeing the Great Clement and SomecallmeJohnny's review made me think, "Eh, why not give my own opinion?" So that's what I'm doing. I won't be doing a COMPLETE plot summary, because...I'm gonna be honest, the plot makes NO sense to me. So many plot holes and inconsistencies riddled in, it's got more holes than Swiss Cheese! Somewhere, it's never explained HOW many years into the distant future we see a completely destroyed city filled with lava and fire, and a telekinetic hedgehog flying threw the city blowing away a tornado, going on a boring, uninteresting monologue about what happened when all of a sudden, Blaze from Sonic Rush...speaking of which, what IS Blaze doing here? Isn't she from another dimension? Anywho...telling him that the fire monster known as Iblis who is responsible for this destruction appeared again, flying off quickly (which, by the way...this cutscene? Yeah, that's as fast as he's gonna get.) then stopping for the player to take control of him, which, futhermore I don't know WHY he didn't just keep flying, and eventually reaching Iblis. After a boring battle, Silver lets out his frustration of never being able to completely defeat Iblis, when a Shadow-looking with no mouth appears, and tells him that he can prevent this future from happening. Oh yeah, trust the Hedgehog with no mouth why don't you. He then leads him back to what I ASSUME is an old base for Eggman, but it's never explained what it is and tells him that he can travel through time, which Silver and Blaze NEVER question, "Hey, if he can travel through time...why doesn't he do it himself?" in fact, I was asking myself this question throughout the whole game, and shows him an image of Sonic in a firey backround, and tells him that Sonic is responsible. Oh yeah, blue hedgehog with fire in the backround? He's OBVIOUSLY responsible. Why didn't Silver demand more proof? Anyway...the demon who's name we later in Shadow's story find out to be Mephiles, sends them back in time, kicking off the plot. That's all I'm really going to go over. The plot has a BAJILION more plotholes, I'd be here all day if I wanted to point them all out. Moving on the graphics. They suck. They're not even on par with early PS3/Xbox 360 graphics, even ShadowTH looks better imo, and Shadow wasn't as bad as everyone says it is to me. The worlds end up feeling barren and empty, hell, Sonic Generations 3DS has more going on in its worlds! And that game had like, NOTHING going on! Other than that, the character models feel so out of place in a realistic environment. 5 ft (or higher) mutant hedgehog, real dog, in the same world. Something seems out of place, let alone with the realistically proportioned humans, no? The music, however...wow. It's bloody amazing. It's probably the best soundtrack in the whole series, imo. However, some tracks I'd rather forget...GO AWAY SWEAT DREAM, YOU WERE GOOD IN SONIC 2, BUT NOW...*ahem* sorry. Anywho, all the themes fit well with the characters and their levels. If only the level design didn't suck and I wish it had at least SOME sense of pacing. The gameplay. My Webpage Just gonna leave that there. All in all, Sonic 2006 is the worst game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. There's NO being kind to it. I know I'm beating a zombie horse at this point, but 06 is JUST THAT BAD. Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gets a 1.5/10 with a rank of ABYSMAL. |

You're a fan of The Great Clement and SomecallmeJohnny, too? *high fives* I watch their stuff practically everyday. Kudos to Johnny for his longest review yet (as far as I'm aware) and Clement for having to endure picking at EVERY SINGLE problem he had with the game. As for the whole Blaze issue, I believe that when she gets sent to another realm, she is reborn in the Sonic Rush dimension. As for why this stays when Iblis' existence is erased... I'd assume that dimensions aren't affected by each other. That way, she supposedly never existed in Sonic's dimension until Rush. At least, that's the best I can come up with. I think it's simple enough. Now, with the story... I can at least say that they tried. They gave a lot more effort to make this story than they did with ShTH. As for how the plot stands alone... I'm mixed on that. There are some interesting ideas with potential, but the story is too complicated and therefore much more frustrating than enjoyable to comprehend. I think that if they took out the redundant plotholes to smoothen it and changed certain things such as how Sonic is killed/revived, his relationship with Elise (It could have been friendship, it would have worked. Just look at that episode in Sonic X with Helen. It could have been THAT.), and dialogue issues / characters being OUT of character ("I know I love Sonic because he's a hero, but even if he became evil I'll still love him for some reason!" Amy. What.), the story could have been amazing. It had potential, it really did. As for the graphics, yes, the in-game cutscenes were terrible, but you have to admit that the CGI (Like the beautiful opening cutscene.) was outstanding. Ignore the fact that a Sonic game shouldn't be realistic. Just look at how it stands by itself. Amazing. I can say that's the best CGI Sonic's ever had at that point. And it still holds up incredibly well. But then you've got the in-game cutscenes where... what the hell just happened? The animals look like puppets. Then the humans just look... odd. I actually would have been okay if Elise was more cartoony (And interesting.) Now, the graphics are somewhat smooth and all, but it doesn't mean a damn thing if the characters don't have expressions when they're supposed to. I've gotten sick of making these jokes, so believe me when I say that something finally compares to Kristen Stewart. At least Sonic Adventure's in-game cutscenes had the characters sharing expression. I'm going to (only partially) reference Clement here when I say that we could TELL when Sonic was surprised, when Tails was scared, when Amy was determined, when Rouge was developing a crush on Knuckles, hell, WE KNEW WHEN SHADOW WAS UPSET. EVEN SHADOW HAD EMOTION. As for the gameplay, well, I've never played Sonic 06. But I can see where it falls flat and I know that glitches aren't the only issue it has. There are certain mechanics that need to die in a fire. I pray to God that once I play it, the glitch that lets you get through Silver's Billard Ball Puzzle works out. >__>; Now, I'm not saying that the game being rushed wasn't the issue, it was, but there's more to it than glitches. If they took the time to go over game mechanics, they could see what should have been added in, kept, and scrapped. All in all, I'll have to wait until I find the game under $15 before I play it, so this is my general overview of what I've seen of playthroughs and reviews so far. I think it'll be bearable, maybe a guilty pleasure, but not what you play when you're in the mood for Sonic. Maybe my opinion will be more certain, but I know it won't stray too far from what it is right now. |

It all starts with this... A jewel containing the ultimate power! Every world has its end. I know that's kinda sad, but... That's why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have. At least, that's what I figure. -Sonic the Hedgehog | |
