Sonic and Raven! :3
The reason most likely is because Sonic Colors did so well on Nintendo exclusive consoles, bringing in more sales than Generations so Sega decided to team up with Nintendo again and release the new games only for Nintendo consoles. While it's not fair to those who don't have a console to play the game on, it could bring in even more sales for said consoles because fans would want the game making them buy a Wii U or 3DS. It's all about the money my friend...

In this case their team up is beneficial to both of them. Wii U sales are slow at the moment and with this, Super Mario 3D World and all the other cool things announced during E3 it's going to help sales a lot. Plus I'm interested in Lost Worlds simply cause it seems to take small nods and Super Mario Galaxy and it looks very fluid. Also we are getting spin dash and the figure eight running animation back too. The gameplay looks like it will take some getting used to but all the hands on impressions I've seen have been really positive and I really hope it's as good as it is looking to be. We will have to see more further along the line beforehand though but I am confident where Sonic is heading. It looks like Sega is getting on a nice track recently with the blue blur and I hope they continue with it.

Hold up. Just... hold on a second here.

Are you implying that the Wii U is not "next-gen"? Well, that's not exactly true... it's in the same generation of consoles as the XB1 and the PS4, so that seems either biased or just plain unenlightened. I mean this with as little offense as possible, but really.

Anyway, ignoring that, it's mainly because Nintendo announced that they are in a three-game partnership with SEGA, at least, concerning the Sonic franchise. With Lost World and Sochi 2014 announced, and another game to come sooner or later, it's easy to suggest that due to this partnership, these three games featuring Sonic are going to be Nintendo-only, and there's nothing the fans can do about that.

Indeed. Determining the Wii U is not 'next-gen' because of graphics is just nonsense to me, especially since there's not that big of a gap between the Wii U and the others anyway.

Anyway, what Koga said. The games have sold more on Nintendo platforms and Nintendo would be the most willing to work with Sonic unlike Sony and Microsoft with a partnership. So yeah.

I object to your claims
To be honest, I think this is a good thing for both SEGA and Nintendo. The Wii U needs some third-party support while Sonic games tend to sell the best on Nintendo systems, so I think both companies will benefit from this.

Actually... "If" a console being "next gen" is because of graphics, the Wii U can technically be considered not "next gen". I mean, it looks comparably good to what will be the launch titles on the PS4 (I'll just be regarding this, because I'm not concerned enough to look it up for the XB1, although I'm sure they're just about the same), but I've read enough articles to know that this is because developers are a bit overwhelmed with the new console's capabilities. I get the impression that later games released for the PS4 could look up to (as a maximum number here, although the numbers are a bit arbitrary) ten times as good as the launch titles will. If nothing else, they'll certainly look a lot better. I've read that developers feel as if they need to re-learn game developing, the hardware in these new consoles is so good.

But yeah, graphics certainly aren't the be all and end all for determining a console's generation. Probably the primary factor is the time frame within which it is released.

But, more on topic, I'm inclined to agree with what's generally been suggested. Sonic seems to do especially well on Nintendo consoles. Which is great, because it means he has a consistent audience, but also not so great because it means I won't likely be able to get the game any time soon.

Sonic Lost World just came out, and was met with tepid sales and reviews, and a horrible fan reception.
