Pianta basically said all I needed to say on the matter. The only way this really differs from most cover-based shooters is that your ammo is fairly limited. So yes, stealth is often the focus. But that doesn't change the fact that I see a lot of it while watching it.

Also, correction: Most modern survival-horror games are about killing. In older games you'd often want to avoid as much as you possibly can. The "SHOOT EVERY MONSTER" thing is something that's popped up in the last six years or so.

PS4 will likely be getting PS3 streaming via Gaikai in 2014 so no worries.
I've been looking around trying to find out how exactly that is supposed to work. Would any of you happen to know any specifics about it if any? How would Sony theoretically actually use Gaikai to make PS3 titles available on the PS4 if it wasn't possible to insert backwards compatibility in the first place?

Yes, like this game isn't about killing. You want to avoid people, killing them with guns should be a last resort and an all out firefight probably isn't even possible on the hardest difficulties. You have to be strategic, you can't just pick up tons of ammo an spray n' pray. That alone makes it as far away from a typical Gears/Uncharted cover based shooter as it can be. It would be like calling Uncharted a platformer.... It has lots of platforming but that's not its core gameplay.

No specifics have been detailed, wish I could tell ya. People are speculating that inserting the disc will allow the servers to read and authenticate it so you can stream it which is basically what Gaikai is. Gaikai is a service that allows you to stream games over an internet browser. The system/PC does no work to display it, it's all done server-side.

They mentioned at the reveal that they would want to eventually get all PS1, PS2, and PS3 games available via the service. As mentioned here it will launch with a limited amount of PS3 games for PS3 and PS4 owners in 2014.

I just beat it! It is probably my favorite game so far and I didn't think I would ever feel this way about a game again. Lately I've been playing games and they're cool but they don't really do a lot for me. This game actually does a GREAT job at telling a story, one of the few games you feel connected to the characters. I feel it's one of those "games of the generation". Those differ for different people but for me last gen it was God of War 2 and Resident Evil 4.

Just wow and I can't wait to try out the multiplayer, they have a neat unique twist on it.

Yeah, tell me what the multiplayer is like if that isn't a problem. Just the idea seems rather out-of-place for a game like this.

It's hard to explain. The levels have designated chests with materials you can scavenge to craft items. You join either of two factions and have to survive. If your clan(or whatever you want to call it) dies, you start over and get to choose between another faction. Anyway it's hard to explain and I don't quite understand it entirely myself so here is a review of the multiplayer only to give you a better idea. It's not your typical deathmatch/ctf modes.

Welp the game is getting big praise from Japanese gamers too! That's actually pretty cool. The article has the trailer in Japanese and the voice actors do a good job surprisingly.

It's also #1 on the UK charts for the second time in a row.

Oh wow, this is crazy... The Last of Us debuted at #1 in Japan with over 100k sells in its first week. Darn decent for a Western game!

So I just witnessed the end of The Last of Us... And I'm quite confused. My face literally went 'what?

Spoiler: click to toggle

Overall, amazing game. The ending didn't grasp me as much as I'd hoped. Gameplay was... well, it was boring and repetitive, to be frank. Being stealthy is just not my thing. But the story and characters made up for it. I really like Ellie and Joel, they are fairly well written characters. Graphics were just stunning, no doubt about it. Soundtrack, while minimalistic, still pretty good.

I loved the ending. Each to their own.
I don't know about you guys, but my game has been glitching like crazy ever since the patch.

Spoiler: click to toggle

I thought alright this is pretty cool, but once I went through the first pipe the rest of the place hadn't loaded and it was only half background textures. Couldn't progress so I restarted.

Ever since that it's just been doing the same thing. I was fine until the end of the game and it happened again twice in the feggin' prologue. Looks like you're in for another patch, ND.

Survivor's fantastic though, them thrills man. Be damned if I let those glitches catch up to me on Survivor+.

Well look at that

http://www.latestnewsexplorer.com/sony-registers-the-last-of-us-2-3-domains/

Quote:

Sony Computer Entertainment has registered domains for The Last of Us sequel and The Order: 1866.
According to Kotaku, theorder1886.com, theorder1886.net, theordergame.net, theorderps4.com and theorderps4.net were privately registered through SCEA’s domain registrar, indicating that the game is being developed in America.

The privately registered handle has also registered lastofus.com, lastofus2.com, and lastofus3.com. This doesn’t come as a surprise though, because big firms register domains as a precautionary measure, and domains doesn’t confirm plans for sequels.
However, Naughty Dog does have a history of creating biggest franchises for PlayStation, that includes Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter & Uncharted. They might do the same with their upcoming action-adventure survival horror video game, The Last of Us.

I can see them doing sequels but using different characters/story arcs. The ones with Joel and Ellie pretty much is wrapped up with no need to continue it.
