The arena was quiet as the moon bathed it in its soft glow, the water that covered the ground level reflecting it back off its surface. There were hardly any signs of life, not counting the plants that had a firm grip on the structure, save for the odd group of fireflies that glowed as they flitted about the arena. The all too telling mechanical sounds that came with its steps marked Wraith's arrival to the battlefield. As it stepped through the gateway its foot moved a little lower than expected, a small splash accompanying the motion as ripples moved out and away from the mechanical limb. "Hrm... so the arena is partially flooded, eh? A good thing we didn't fight Fenroar here, that electricity would have done real a number on us," Marcus thought as the mech walked a little further in, unphased as it waded through the shallow water. "Still, shouldn't be too much of a problem here. The movement systems should fix any issues we might have." Coming to a halt near the center of the moonlit arena, Wraith stood sliently, waiting for its opponent to make an appearance. The moonlight shone slightly off its metal plating, almost making parts of it look as though they were glowing. But this was merely a trick of the light. "I wonder who this 'Raelean' is. I don't recall bumping into them in the lobby... not that I've had much time to socialise while I'm there with all the repairs and no shows, heh. Guess I'll have to size them up when they show." |

The most important meal of the day

Raelean Sivth found her way to her next arena, a site of ancient ruins. Ancient might have been a slight exaggeration, but the area looked like it had remained undisturbed for quite some time. Overhead was a clear, calm night sky. Pale moonlight reflected off the surface of the stagnant water pooling on the ground, just barely making tiny, innumerable water-treading insects visible. "Yuck..." Rael mumbled to herself as her soaking wet white leather boots splashed a little. Each step sent a flurry of bugs flying and hopping upwards. Rael swatted the air around her head, a look of irritation blooming on her face. As she spotted her opponent, her expression returned to being one of indifference. She had been most pleased to find that her opponent wasn't a living, breathing, thinking being. Fighting a machine would be a lot easier for her. She would be able to release her full force and not feel a shred of guilt. After all, what did she care if she wrecked somebody's garage project? Simply put, she didn't. "A mechanical opponent this time. That's perfect. I won't. Mind opening fire. Then. To bring you down." Rael reached for the weapon holstered against her bare thigh. She extracted it and examined her opponent carefully. "This is almost unfair. For you. That is," the young girl aimed her gun at the machine and held it at the ready. -------------------------------------------------------- Darma: 100% Ammunition: 19 bullets, (1) reload of 19 Arrows: 50 |

"A girl? They let a girl enter this thing? She looks like she should be busy worrying about the next shoe sale, not fighting me." Marcus thought as he took in her appearance. She didn't look like anything special, though she was certainly armed for combat. Her strange way of speaking didn't go unnoticed either. What was up with that? At any rate it probably wouldn't have much to do with the fight. "Well, you've got yourself some spunk, I'll give you that," he commented, the metallic echo that always accompanied his voice ringing out through the quiet arena. As he did the mech's movement systems started up, lifting it up off the ground and causing it to hover just barely above the water's surface. "But I'm not so sure you know what you're getting yourself into, girl." Without another moment's hesitation Wraith's thrusters roared into action. The mech charged towards Raelean, causing small walls of water to form behind it. As it got close it drew its right arm back for a punch. When in range it would thrust its arm forwards towards her stomach in an attempt to wind her, thus leaving an opening for another attack. If it missed, it would pass by a small distance, coming to a stop and turning around as quickly as it could. After its last battle it had decided to adopt a more offensive strategy than it was using at the start of the tournament. Waiting for its opponent to act only lead to dealing no damage of its own. Keeping up the pressure and waiting for the opponent to slip seemed to be the key to victory at this point in time. ---------- [Turn 2] EN Reserves: 200 S. Missile Ammo: 5/5 |

"So you can talk. Neat trick. But that isn't going to keep me from peppering you. With bullets." As her opponent charged towards her, Rael stood with her legs slightly apart, to brace herself for an attack. She managed to fire off two shots before she was hit. The only thought that went through her head was that perhaps she should have tried dodging instead of trying to shoot it down. Rael felt the full force of the attack right in her gut as she flew backwards a few yards before finally splashing on the soggy ground and coming to a rolling stop. The labored wheezing coming from her mouth as well as the tightness in her chest were signs that she had gotten the wind knocked right out of her. She tried to stand but only made it to her hands and knees. It wasn't that critical, but she couldn't do much for a few minutes until she could breathe again. Or until she found her gun... It only took her a moment to realize that she had let go of it. "I've got to learn to keep a tighter grip on that damn thing." Although it was dark, a quick glance to the left was all that was needed in order to find where her weapon landed. It was only a few feet away. Crawling for it, Rael tried desperately to catch her breath. It felt like she was trying to breathe through a coffee stirring straw. "Damn... Robot... Hit me..." Rael cursed in low tones. Her gun retrieved, she stood up slowly, but her breathing was still ragged. Her inability to form complete sentences wouldn't slow her down, though. She could still fight. The girl aimed her gun at her opponent again, determined to dodge whatever attack it had coming for her, while offering a few of her own. She could try and gun it down if she had to, but she wasn't sure if bullets would be effective. Even if they weren't, it wasn't like she was saving them for anybody. Rael decided that her best course of action for the time being would be to stay on the defensive for a little while until she could figure out the mech's weakness. Certainly she was faster than it. She could dodge all day if she had to. ------------------------------------------------- Darma: 100% Arrows: 50 Ammunition: 17 bullets, (1) reload of 19 |

Wraith is unfazed as the girl fires off a few rounds from her pistol mid-charge. The bullets simply ricochet off its armour with a spark that lights up the immediate area. It was built for combat in war-like situations and being an anti infantry unit meant that being resistant to bullets was a must. The worst she had done is put a scuff on its metal plating: something that could be easily buffed out after the match. The mech slows to a halt and turns back to face its opponent to inspect the results, making a small splash in the water as it lands. It was a direct hit to the intended target and it showed. "A little short of breath there, missy? Maybe I was a bit rough on ya. Should've pulled that one a little." Marcus taunts with a small laugh. The mech's hand moves in a manner as if it were loosening it up as he does. Though he was glad his first move had gone so smoothly for a change. But now wasn't the time to relax, he still needed to win this. Just as before Wraith's movement systems fire up as it prepares to charge again. The difference this time being the dull glow of its Plasma Stakes starting up on its left buckler, the blue glow emanating out around them being the tell tale sign of a Jet Magnum attack. It would only be roughly a half charge however. She didn't look like the most sturdy of fighters and a full charge runs the risk of tearing right through her. Still, the force should still be ample enough to send her flying out across the arena, and with any luck, knock her out. The mech roars into action, kicking up water along the surface as it closes in on Raelean once more. The plan was simple: Get up close, grab her with the right and deliver the charge to the center of her body with the left, releasing afterwards for some knock back. Hopefully it would send her flying into something like the arena wall. She didn't look particularly heavy anyway. ---------- [Turn 3] EN Reserves: 190 S. Missile Ammo: 5/5 |

Rael scowled at her mechanical opponent as it taunted her. "I'm good," she replied behind grit teeth, and examined her gun in her hand. "So bullets aren't effective. I could have guessed that. But that's fine." Rael holstered her first weapon and prepared to summon her second, but that was before she heard the tell-tale sounds of the mech charging up to come at her again. She refused to let it keep pushing her around like some hulking metal bully. This wasn't the school playground, it was a swampy... arena... thing. And she wasn't a wimp. She would show it who was boss. After all, she had to be faster than it. Additionally, she had the power of Darma on her side. Darma, the otherworldly energy she could harness and utilize to make her stronger, faster... and jump higher. Rael bent a bit at the knees and then literally sprang high up into the air, using some of her Darma to help launch her higher. In mid-air, she summoned her Holy Weapon, her powerful bow and arrows. On the way back down to the ground, she twisted around and aimed three arrows at her opponent. In a split second, she fired, and all three glowing bluish-white arrows whizzed through the air towards their mark. They were holy arrows, and could do damage to organic beings as well as mechanical ones. Rael landed behind her opponent, successfully pulling off her superhuman jump-attack combo. That is, if her arrows hit their mark. The murky water splashed upwards and her platform boots sank slightly into the soggy ground below. ------------------------------------------------- Darma: 90% Arrows: 47 Ammunition: 17 bullets, (1) reload of 19 |

"Tch. Same tactic won't work twice, eh? Should've clobbered her while I had the chance." As always, Wraith travels a small distance further than the point of impact, spinning around as the thrusters prepared to shut off once more. However before it has time to try again, its sensors pick up on three projectiles heading its way. "What the-?!" The mech jumps back a small distance, watching as one of the three arrows land in the ground and sends a small ripple out across the water's surface. But sure enough, the other two hit their mark. With their trajectories all slightly differing one does minimal damage as it hits the bulkier portion of its lower left leg's armour, while the other pierces a portion of the upper right leg. Its impact is somewhat deeper, but thankfully it fails to hit any vital circuitry. But there was no guarantee it'd be so lucky twice. "I should have known things wouldn't be that simple. So a magical bow, huh? Well, with the cryokinetic and the guy flinging lightning bolts at me, this is probably the most conventional fighter I've seen so far," Marcus ponders as he observes Raelean, paying particularly close attention to the bow in her hands. "At any rate, I've gotta keep my eye on her at all times. If she gets behind me like that again it could cause some trouble. Can't defend myself from that angle just yet..." "Not bad, girl! I guess I underestimated you a little," Marcus calls out across the battlefield. "But if it's a ranged battle you want, let me show you some real firepower!" As if on cue Wraith throws its arms out sideways as a pair of missile pods detach from behind its body and fly under under its arms towards the area where Raelean is standing. As they cross over the halfway mark between the two fighters they break open, unleashing a payload of several smaller missiles. Each missile ducks and weaves slightly while spreading out over the area. They would cover a ten metre radius, each small missile having a blast radius of roughly 2 meters. Though there was a chance the water could lessen the impact somewhat, and there was no way they would all hit the ground at the same time. It was never a guaranteed hit, but the chances were pretty high against an unprepared opponent. ---------- [Turn 4] EN Reserves: 190 S. Missile Ammo: 4/5 |

"So arrows are effective. I knew you couldn't be. Invincible," Rael gloated with a glassy look in her eye. However, she had little time to gloat, or just stand there for that matter. "Not bad, girl! I guess I underestimated you a little. But if it's a ranged battle you want, let me show you some real firepower!" Rael knew she was in for some big trouble when the mech fired missiles at her. She yelped a little as the realization of imminent danger suddenly hit her. The missiles split off into several smaller ones, mostly aimed for the area around her, but some coming straight for her as well. Rael didn't have time to run away, or try to successfully dodge. The best she could hope for would be evasion. She could try to evade most of the damage, but there would be no way she could avoid all of the attack. Diving for the ground, Rael covered her head with her arms, clinging desperately to her bow even though it offered little protection. The explosions happened around her, and although Rael had managed to avoid some of the potential damage, she knew immediately that she was in for a treat. The force of the multiple blasts left her with white flashes blinding her vision. Even that did not distract her from the searing pain that attacked her body from multiple angles. She blinked rapidly and slowly regained her vision, although her ears were still ringing. The first thing she noticed was that she had been blown back, tossed around like a rag doll by the force of her opponent's attack. She was aware of her body slightly smoking, and bits of her clothes and the edges of her hair were seared, making her appear as if she had been sprinkled with acid. Rael groaned, although her vocal expressions of pain were muffled as her face was partially buried in the swampy ground. She laboriously lifted herself onto her elbows and then onto her hands and knees, and then stopped. Miraculously, Rael had managed to keep a grip on her Holy Weapon. She certainly would not feel comfortable being unarmed for even a second, even considering the fact that she could summon her Holy Weapon and arrows in a split second without any effort. She still wanted to hold on to it, her protection against a clearly difficult foe. She stood up on shaky legs, and faced her opponent. Although she was very wobbly, and in quite a bit of pain, she managed to remain calm as she said coolly, "Oh. Is that all. You got?" Rael aimed her bow at the mech and summoned three more arrows, aimed vertically once again. Her arms were weak and shaking and she could scarcely hold them up, let alone hold them steady. But she couldn't give up without a fight. She would keep firing until she won. Hopefully the mech wasn't having the same exact train of thought. Rael released the arrows, and for the time being, hoped for the best. --------------------------- Darma: 90% Arrows: 44 Ammunition: 17 bullets, (1) reload of 19 |

Wraith watches the smoke as it clears, its optic sensors soon picking up on the charred Raelean. It would seem that its attack had been successful. But even after taking such a hit she simply rises to her feet, bow in hand. She's even got the guts to make a quip about it. "Oh. Is that all. You got?" The mech remains silent as she aims her bow. Undoubtedly she was expecting it to move. Yet it just stands there and stares her down as it seemingly awaits her attack. As the arrows are let loose and fly towards it a faint flash of green can be seen across the front of its body... the cause of this soon revealed as a wall of green energy stops the arrows in their tracks. One stops short of its right arm, another its chest and the final seems to have been heading for its left shoulder plate. After a moment the shield dissipates, leaving the arrows to fall and make a few small splashes in the water. "Oh. Is that all you've got?" Marcus retorts as Wraith begins to walk forward. The two arrows previously stuck in its legs seem to have vanished by this point. So they vanish after a while? That was good to know. "You should just give up, girl. I've clearly got the edge in weapons. And I've just shown you that your best one has no effect on me after I've seen it once," He adds, the mech not really doing much for now besides walk slowly towards her. "I'd rather not mess you up any more than I need to. So let's just call it a day, eh?" He was fairly confident there was nothing more she could do. As strong as her arrows may be they can't do anything if they don't reach their target. And her gun is certainly no threat to him even without his E. Field. It was only a matter of time before the mech won. The only question was how long that would be. At this moment that was up to Raelean. ---------- [Turn 5] EN Reserves: 180 S. Missile Ammo: 4/5 |

Once Rael saw that her arrows had no effect on the mech during that particular attack, her spirits dampened, and a slight scowl came to her weary face. She barely heard anything it said, as the blood was rushing to her ears, or maybe it was rushing out of her head. Either way, she sure felt dizzy. Her vision was getting fuzzy and she wobbled a bit. "O-one more shot... m-maybe." As Rael raised her arms and aimed her bow in an attempt to put all her energy behind one more shot, she came to the horrifying realization that she had no more energy. Her arms stayed loosely at her sides, one clutching a glowing arrow and the other gripping her special bow, even though she commanded them to move. Rael felt even dizzier, and rocked back and forth on her heels. Her last thought was that perhaps she shouldn't have gotten up so quickly. No, perhaps she should not have gotten up at all. That last hit marked her fate, yet she was too stubborn to acknowledge the extent of the damage immediately. But she was realizing it now-- she was done for. Rael groaned and shook her head slightly, but this only succeeded in causing her to lose what little balance she had left. She fell forward and landed hard on the soggy ground, face first, all her breath escaping her in one short grunt. Her Holy Weapon disappeared, and her body immediately began emitting a very faint golden glow. She was healing herself, but that would take hours, and for now at least, she was down for the count. |

The mech came to a halt as Raelean began to wobble. She had been putting on a brave front but it was becoming clear that she wasn't in quite as good shape as she would have her opponent believe. After a short struggle with her own body she falls to the ground, splashing up some of the water around her and sending ripples out around her. The mech emits a faint sigh as it starts to walk again, no longer ready for battle. "Well, I hate to say I told ya so... but that was even shorter than the last battle," Marcus comments as Wraith finally comes to a halt over Raelean's body. The glow she emits reflects off the metallic plating and visor of the mech as it quietly observes. "Still, you've got some spunk. And some neat tricks up your sleeve. Were I still... well... doesn't matter now, I suppose." In a strange repeat of events that took place in the last match, Wraith slowly lowers itself to scoop the downed girl up into its cold metallic arms. Water drips from her body and its hands for a few moments afterwards. But the mech pays it no mind as its starts to walk towards the arena exit. "You fought well. Let's get you patched up." Marcus comments in an almost fatherly tone, as if he were congratulating someone working under him on their hard work. True, she hadn't accomplished much in their match, but he could admire her resolve at least. Soon the two disappeared through the exit. The arena was quiet once more, only a few signs of battle remaining. Another battle had reached its conclusion with Wraith the winner. But there was still one last battle to go...
