Well now, this was unexpected. That's right, Guilty Gear is back! Apparently as a part of of Arc System Works' 25th anniversary. And what's this? It's in 3D? Bu-but... that looks like 2D! But it isn't! Yet it is! What kind of techno-wizardry is this?! But in all seriousness, I'm pretty stoked about this. I've never been great at playing the series but I've always liked the characters, setting and music. Maybe I'll be better at it this time around. For those of you who haven't heard of the name Guilty Gear before, it's basically the predecessor to the BlazBlue series of games. It was known for its smooth and detailed sprite work, an interesting cast of characters and one of the most rockin' soundtracks in videogame history. They changed the series up come Guilty Gear 2. It was more of a third person strategic beat-'em-up in which you'd fight to claim points on a battlefield. I never played it myself, but demands for the old Guilty Gear to come back are what resulted in BlazBlue. But it seems the series has returned to its roots in this instalment, albeit with a new visual twist. The trailer itself hasn't really told us much about what we can expect to see it on, though the usual Sony/Microsoft systems probably aren't too risky a bet. Whether that means the current generation with PS3 and 360 or the next remains to be seen. Here's hoping it's on PS3 at least. I'd rather not fork out for a PS4 just to play this. Though it does look really nice. Ky looks a little odd with that ponytail though. Almost feminine. That'll take getting used to. |

-MASSIVE NUDGE- So, there's a new trailer out. Shows off more returning characters, stages, what the in-game HUD looks like and gives us a rough release date of 2014. Wasn't a huge fan of Potemkin before, but with his new design I can see myself wanting to play as him. Looks like everyone has been redesigned in some way, but some changes are much more subtle than others. Either way, looks good. Hype~ |
