In today's Nintendo Direct it was revealed that Nintendo has gone into a global partnership with Sega that will mean that the next game in the Sonic series (Titled Lost Worlds) will be released exclusively for the Wii U and 3DS.

Nothing else was revealed about the game apart for the above screenshot.

Want a trailer? Here's a trailer;

This game is so colorful it's crazy.

The game looks cool, but I don't want to get my hopes up. This is the first time Sonic Team is jumping into an actual storyline again, and I'm really hoping it's gonna be the game that grants his good reputation back amongst the fanbase, and video game critics and everyone else who really hates the dude. The new abilities look cool too, and that one glimpse of the Wisp Ravenfreak pointed out got me a little stoked. Who didn't love the Wisps?

This game looks like it's going to be one hell of a time, and I'm most likely going to purchase a Wii U just for this game...but then again...I don't want to have my hopes high on this one...even though I'm pretty much there already.

Haha. I was like "Look at all of these retro enemies this is really-what's with the big yellow head?"

Regardless, this is all looking real nice right now. I'll be more then satisfied with the Wii U this year if they can add this and a Mario and first-party title along with Pikmin 3.

Also, some info I found, courtesy of IGN. Apologies if I missed it. Good news and some bad news depending on the fan. Preview from IGN with intriguing info, though I should get the perhaps bad out of the way. Sonic will be the only playable character. Tails, Knuckles, and Amy are confirmed to appear but are not playable.

Online gaming publication IGN has received the chance to take a look at three levels of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS exclusive, Sonic Lost World. The developers over at Sonic Team say that they have created an all-new design for 3D Sonic games with Sonic: Lost World and that they hope to use this design for future titles. Here’s a roundup of what was shown to the team over at IGN.

  • Levels include ‘Wind Hill’ & ‘Desert Ruins’
Desert Ruins consists of a Cake, Candy and sweet themed environment.
Sonic builds up speed slowly, the player decides when he wants to go faster and then with another button decides when he wants to unleash the next level of speed.
  • Parkor system, designed to allow players to navigate objects at speed without coming to a dead stop.
  • Wisp’s are back, as are the wisp powers.
  • 2 player “support” mode confirmed.
  • Sonic is the only playable character.
  • Tails, Knuckles & Amy appear in the story, they are not playable.
  • The planet is called ‘Lost Hex.’
  • Rescuing animals will influence various unlockable content.
  • Red Rings are back.
  • Gold cannons are used to unlock secret/alternative paths.

Though some may find Sonic the only playable character disappointing, all this other information have me excited. I really like the Parkor System, being one of the few annoyances of the series to me. Also love the cartoony style, works really well with Sonic.

Well, ain't that interesting!

Its not just the robots looking retro, I think they look alot more cartoony then they did before.

Also the designs sorta make me think of Skylanders.

You know, I'm both excited and not excited now that I've seen the screenshots and watched the trailer. The gameplay looks like top of the line Sonic gameplay, and the environments are graphically appealing, if a bit too cartoony for me. Somehow, the level designs are extremely reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy, and while I liked those level designs, I can't say I think they're ideal for Sonic. These new six enemies, though... They're my biggest gripe about this. They are much too over the top and cartoony for me. If nothing else, I like how they're vaguely reminiscent of some of the bosses I remember from NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, but I suppose I can't say that's ideal as this isn't technically a lucid dream themed game.

I'm not excited for the Wisps and Wisp Powers returning. Why re-use an old gimmick?

Also, I'm pretty sure Eggman will obviously be involved or his robots wouldn't be involved. Any main enemy that didn't have Eggman related somehow had his robots as enemies. SatBK being a good example.
-Sig under construction because the next thing I use will be hilarious-

Hey guys! Check out this game I made Here!

Alright i'm not disappointed that the only playable character is Sonic, and it's cool to hear that Tails, Amy, and Knux are set to appear as NPC too. I wonder if the Wisps will be even useful in this game, if they're saying the game now has a Parkor system where Sonic pretty much can now explore the level without coming to a complete stop, then their powers might be useless because in Colors you'd pretty much would have to stop in some cases just to use their power up.

I think the cartoony style works the best with Sonic personally. Reminds me of the classic games the most. You gotta remember this is the first new adventure taking place in what appears to be a Sonic 1-like world, unlike Generations and Sonic 4 which were intentionally made to be retro-like.

And yeah, Eggman is involved according to this article anyway.

Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of six menacing creatures known as the Deadly Six, but when the Deadly Six rise up against their master, Sonic has to unite with his arch nemesis in order to take on the new enemies head-to-head. Using his dynamic new parkour moves and improved Colour Powers, Sonic must run, jump and race through a variety of ever changing terrains in order to defeat the Deadly Six.

Goofy story of the hold games, I like this.

Oh, some details of the Wii U pad here. Though it's mostly the same.

This is seriously getting better and better as they reveal new stuff, plus Sonic has to team up with Eggman to stop the Deadly Six?! I was wondering how they were going to write him in... And it's good that the 3DS version isn't going to be a simple side scrolling platformer like the Generations port was... :V

Don't tell me what I can or can't do!

So wisp powers are back? So this is kind of like Sonic Colors 2, I loved that game so all good news to me! I guess I secretly knew I'd eventually be getting a Wii U, but I really am interested in the gameplay for this one. It looks so different from what we're used to.

Guys, I'm so excited for this! Never have I been this excited for a video game launch before. Even if it's not perfect, considering what we have and how Sega's been doing, I have a feeling this will be worth it.

The 3DS version will actually have 3D gameplay? It's about damn time. Considering that the 3DS could handle massive games like Ocarina Of Time 3D in one cartridge, I was hoping we could see Sonic in 3D on a handheld for once. And it looks like Sonic X-Treme, I don't even know what to say. I was nervous when I heard that they were going to take the gameplay in a new direction after Generations, but I think they're about to pull it off.

Somebody brought up hub worlds- I wouldn't really want hub worlds, but if they're there, I'm at least hoping they're small and straightforward. I've never liked the idea of hub worlds in a Sonic game, but I'll put up with them as long as they don't really get in the way.

The Wisps are coming back, eh? I wonder if they'll be the same as the ones in Colors or if they'll change. But hey, we're finally getting a bit of continuity in the series again. Haven't seen this since... Shadow The Hedgehog? And the story doesn't look deep by any means, but hey, it's looking better than Generations'. I'm not asking for complex Sonic 06 plots, I just want something interesting that I can get into. Hopefully there'll be some heart in there as well.

I'm disappointed that once again, we're not going to have multiple playable characters. Something that really stood out for me in the Sonic franchise was the multiple intertwining storylines, but we never get them anymore. But oh well, I'd rather have one playable character done right than be forced to go through multiple tedious stories. I'll take what I can get. I'm also happy we're getting Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. I miss the games that focused on the main group. I'm hoping to see Shadow and Metal Sonic make important appearances once again, but I'll have to hold on to that one. Anyways, if we have a 2-player mode for the first time in ages, (I'm pretty sure Colors didn't have one...) something tells me we can play as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles from there, which is at least something to look out for.

I was hoping those silhouettes would be villains, and I'm so glad I was right. Their designs also look better than I expected, but they're still pretty ridiculous. To quote somebody, who tweeted Sega telling them this, their silhouettes look like reject extras from Monsters Inc. Also, Sonic and Eggman have to team up to go against them? I sense Crash Twinsanity. :3

The story also seems very lighthearted like Colors and Generations. I also got excited to hear Roger Craig Smith's voice once again. I know they never mentioned switching out the cast to begin with, but I just absolutely LOVE his voice, and I'm so glad to see him make a return. The entire cast is great. (Sans Amy and Shadow.)And these graphics look absolutely beautiful. Sega's really been putting a ton of effort into their visuals lately, and I'm really impressed. I'm not one to normally care much about graphics, but damn, it's just so colourful and smooth... just simply amazing. This is about as good as Sonic's graphics can get.

I have a feeling this will be a big one. Let's hope it carries on what we're being led to.
It all starts with this... A jewel containing the ultimate power!

Every world has its end. I know that's kinda sad, but... That's why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have. At least, that's what I figure.
