It's GT's 15th anniversary and big things are coming up! It's rumored that GT6 will be coming out on PS3 later this year. Rumors come from a Sony executive mentioning GT6 accidentally in an interview. This is Sony's largest exclusive franchise. Collectively GT5 Prologue(5.3M) and GT5(9.1M) have sold 14.5 million copies.
Honestly though I kinda hope GT6 is on PS4. I know they can still do a lot more on PS3 but they can do so much more on PS4. GT4 was a huge improvement on GT3 and those were both on PS2 so even if GT6 is on PS3 it will probably be a big improvement I just hope they move it to PS4 or make it PS3, PSVita, and PS4 with the PS4 version being the best version but ultimately the same.
Knowing Gran Turismo they have probably been working on this for a while so even if it did get a PS4 release it will probably be nothing more then a straight port. Plus doesn't PS4 have that other racing game? The one with the stupidly amount of detail in it. I imagine it would be hard at this point for Gran Turismo to compete with that.

I read an interview when GT5 came out where he stated the cars are so detailed that they are like PS4 quality(Right Here). The detail in GT5 cars goes beyond that of any other game on PS3 and all consoles including Forza in gameplay. As far as the cars go, they're set for PS4. All they have to do is add the effects not possible on PS3 and redo environments for PS4 and considering they've had PS4 devkits for awhile and Kazunori said PS4 was like working with a blank canvas with no limitations I'd say it wouldn't be too hard to do a superior version of GT6 on PS4. Then again they might just wait a year or two to release GT7 on PS4. Who knows. I bet if it is on PS3 that there will also be a port coming out for the Vita. GT6 for PS3 and PS Vita.
As far as it competing with Driveclub, Driveclub is a new ip whereas GT has a huge fanbase and is always the best selling game on Playstation. Driveclub is a different type of game anyway it focuses its energy with team based gameplay on open roads and is not a simulator.
Greetings PlayStation.Blog. Today we’re really excited to announce that Gran Turismo 6 will be released Holiday 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself at our Silverstone event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.
GT6 for PlayStation 3 will see many enhancements, improvements and additions to the game. bringing new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’. Features revealed today include stunning new tracks and cars and an overhauled user interface. There’s also a new engine, which will improve game operation. Meanwhile, we are set for expanded connectivity with other devices, and increased social and community functions.
The cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 — which has now sold over 10 million copies [10.6M according to Polyphony's website] since launching in 2010 — will return in GT6, but notable new additions will bring the car lineup to over 1,200. Players will also be able to customize their rides to a greater extent than ever before.
Amongst the track line-up, the UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available — 19 of them brand new. This already impressive lineup of cars and tracks will be added to by future DLC drops beginning after launch.
Enhancements and improvements also extend to a much-improved course maker function, which will provide several kilometers of gorgeous scenery, including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía. The course maker will also include a new GPS data feature, which will increase the freedom of track creation in the game.
“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT 6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments.
“I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will only be the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”
Oh heck yes!!!! Can't wait to get it and hear about every new improvement. Excited to hear about a much more advanced track editor.Announcement trailer!
More details!
Kazonuri Yamauchi took the stage at the 15th anniversary Gran Turismo event and has announced a lot of things.
First of all, Gran Turismo 6 is now official as the earlier leaked press release suggests and will be released later this year for the PS3. It’s this year’s holiday season game for the PS3 and it should no doubt give the platform a solid boost before the launch of its successor.
The PS4 version has not been announced yet but we have some new details on the game.
The code has been refactored according the people who are at the event right now and the game also supports adaptive tessellation. [Adaptive Tessellation is a technique in which the closer you get to an object the mesh becomes higher polygon count and better looking. Check out the Nvidia demo from 2 years ago. The technology has only improved. Basically it is a simple cheat that if the object is further from the camera it renders it in lower quality but as you get closer it becomes better looking and more realistic. ] There’s a totally new physics engine, new suspension and tyre model. New aero model. Tech partnership with yokohama and kw auto.
There are 1200 cars which confirms that the leaked press release was real, on-going DLC, latest reading cars, histories, players can create their own personalized cars. More custom parts coming in the game, several thousand pieces of Aero parts will be available along with more wheels.
New course maker has been confirmed and scenery can expand several tens of square kilometers. There’s also a new course generation algorithm. You can “create your own racing series and championships to compete online”.
The game features a “new user interface, focuses on quick response and short load times. It balances directional key operation and touch operation.”

And here is the full presentation if anyone wants to watch the whole thing. Lots of good information! Go to 08:05 to see the physics comparison between GT5 and GT6.
I think the things I'm most excited about are the adaptive tessellation and improved physics. The physics were already good but now they're working with automotive companies to get it even more realistic. The adaptive tessellation is awesome because it just gets better looking the closer you get to it so they don't have to limit the cars for the PS3.
Tis just a shame I've given up on consoles now... wasn't expecting GT6 to come out this generation given how long it took them to get GT5 out, but wow!

I didn't know what to expect but I expected it to be out this year on the PS3 or PS4. Glad it's PS3 but hopefully GT7 won't take a long time. It shouldn't since they modeled the cars well enough to be PS4 quality, especially now with adaptive tessellation and they have the future in mind. GT5 was kinda the black sheep, it was really the only one that took a very long time to come out. 3 years is standard for a good sequel. Every year or every other year and you're bound to have franchise fatigue. 2 GTs a console is perfect and the second one is always the best. GT2 blew GT1 out of the water and same with GT4 to GT3.
I'm thinking of getting a Logitech racing wheel now. Will be expensive considering I have to buy a stand as well but worth it.Here's an interesting article I just read that I knew most of the stuff about but most won't..
There have been 16 GT games! You wouldn't be faulted for thinking that only six Gran Turismo games have been released so far; they make up the vast number of the franchise's sales, after all. However, these games make up less than half of the GT games that Polyphony Digital has put out. According to Polyphony Digital's Wikipedia page, there have been 16 different releases, several of them different offshoots of Gran Turismo 4.
There was a Porsche in GT3! The inclusion of Porsche - or lack thereof, rather - has been one of the most notable aspects of Gran Turismo since the original game. Instead, Polyphony Digital has had to include Ruf, a company that implements their own chassis into Porsche bodies. However, there was going to be a Porsche in Gran Turismo 3 - a 911 GT3, just like series creator Kazunori Yamauchi drives in real life. When EA snapped up the exclusive rights to the Porsche license the car had to be removed. The code for the car is still on the disc, though, and is still accessible with the right tools
Gran Turismo is more popular than Halo! When Gran Turismo 6 was formally announced, Sony also noted that the franchise has sold over 70 million units in its 15 years. For reference, that is more than Ratchet & Clank (25m), God of War (21m), and Uncharted (17m) - combined. Even more of an eye-opener is that it has sold more than some of the competition's heaviest hitters as well. Microsoft's Halo has sold 46 million games since its launch alongside the original Xbox in 2001. They both have five main installments but if Gran Turismo being slightly older than Halo bugs you, how about this: Gran Turismo's 70 million matches the 25-year-old Legend of Zelda.
The Original Was Developed by a Tiny Team The original Gran Turismo released to the Japanese public in 1997 after a five-year development cycle that began in 1992. The result was one of the most realistic games that had ever released, with visuals and physics unmatched by anything on consoles before it. Yet it was made by a small handful of people. In an interview with VentureBeat leading up to Gran Turismo 5, director Kazunori Yamauchi was asked how many people worked on the original game. "On the first one, there were seven to 15 people, at different times," Yamauchi said. Now Polyphony Digital staffs about 140 people.
There is a Gran Turismo Restaurant Like many other successful franchises, Gran Turismo has had the chance to license its popularity across different kinds of merchandise. Of all the potential uses of Gran Turismo, a restaurant would probably be pretty low on the list. That's why it's so wonderfully amusing to know that a Gran Turismo Cafe exists at all. In true GT fashion, the cafe lives at the Twin Ring Motegi race course in Japan.
