This new sonic game has you run on a treadmill, presumably as different characters:

While it may look ridiculous, I must say that this looks rather fun. If I lived in Japan, I'd totally try this out. :P.

You think that looks silly?

Have you seen the urinal games they have in Japan?

This is relatively tame.

Well if they bring this to the US, maybe there would be less fat kids. :V Anyway this is a very interesting game to say the least, if this ever makes it here I wouldn't play it though honestly I hate running. I always wondered if they'd make a game like this...

Best part is, Sega had a hand in making these too.

Time for some in-depth info.

Do you live in Tokyo and want to see Sonic’s ass in front of you while you run on a treadmill? Well soon you can in a new arcade game called Sonic Athletics. In this game you will need to run as fast as possible on a treadmill to get the highest score. While you do this you will also see a Sonic character run on a screen in front of you. The faster you run, the faster Sonic or a different character runs as well. This game can be played with up to eight players, each as a different character. The playable characters are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Metal Sonic, Silver and Blaze.

This glorified treadmill will be open for all starting from April 25th at SEGA’s Joypolis in Tokyo and will cost 500 yen per game. It also seems like this will be the only place where it can be played, everywhere else people will probably have to stick to boring ordinary treadmills.

Is it bad that I kind of want this to come to the states?

Would be interesting, but other than chains like Chuckie Cheese and what not, there aren't many arcades left, so I heard.

I don't know where I'm going.
I saw this on Facebook and I thought it was a joke...somehow. I think that's pretty strange, but let the dudes in Tokyo do what they want. That coming to the states? I'm not too sure. The only 8-lane game that everyone plays in arcades is that bowling-like game (The technical name escapes me). I guess if Dance Dance Revolution survived here as an arcade fitness game, I guess having Sonic Athletics wouldn't be bad either.

Yeah. That's the sad thing about this whole thing.

What about Dave 'n' Busters? I love that place.

And this Sonic game would fit in with some of their other arcade-style games. ^^

My local mall still has a arcade, and it definitely needs some Sonic arcade cabinets for sure. (Sure it has a few Sega arcade cabinets but no Sonic games, what the heck is up with that?! Dx) Arcades are a rare site, but there are some of them still around.
