Nintendo dropping out of E3; Well, at least it's not a focal point

I'll edit this post with an actual source tomorrow but Nintendo has just announced that they will not host a major news conference this year. Given their Nintendo Directs recently, it may not be too much of a surprise. This doesn't mean they'll be a no-show at E3 but they might choose to only expand on announced games, have trials, et cetera.

Honestly I may like this better, especially after the whinefests last year(not from here imo) although it might take some getting used to. The directs to me are far more entertaining with the scripts and more to the point, having no needless filler that's inevitable in every E3 conference, all of which that has to live up to a growing amount of hype. Heck, Sony and Microsoft aren't even waiting till E3 to unveil their consoles.

Of course, if they stick with this, I hope they have a good amount of Nintendo Directs to make up for it. I love the directs so hopefully they will, as I said, for their lack of bloated filler. Everyone remembered that year when Microsoft's turned into a Usher concert? Yeah, that's what I mean.

Regardless, reading the news article, Ninty will still be at E3, just not the flashy conference we're used to.

Anyway, I'm perfectly fine with this but thoughts?

This doesn't surprise me in the least.
The Nintendo Directs have been used for big announcements for a long time now and have proven themselves to be very successful in what they do that it does make a large E3 conference seem obsolete.
That and of course it would probably get over shadowed by Sony and Microsoft showing of there two consoles that it would be wiser not to compete with them anyway.

I've got no problem with this so long as they actually plan on announcing that Smash Bros stuff they promised a while back. Sometime relatively close to when E3 would have been would be appreciated.

That's more or less the only thing I've really been hanging out for.

I want a source for this. :c But yeah, Ninty's press con is the one I look forward the most. I mean, I need my yearly dose of Reggie and Iwata (even though he's on the Nintendo Direct all the time). Ah well.

Source for everyone. It seems some new updates from Nintendo came as well. They will have two smaller events there, a "media event" and a "partner presentation" that morning.

this really downs me in a way.
I have watched the last two E3 presentations purely for ninty's conferences. Hearing this, well i'm not gonna do a broken record on the subject.

I just hope that Smash bros 4 will be there.

oh, and I was reading the article, and I see that it has changed. At first it talked about how the ninty directs are in place for their conferences, and now a bunch of that has been cut off from the article, and now says "Developing". What gives?

They already said that Smash Bros will be at E3, but only as screenshots and artwork, don't go expecting a trailer for it.

Nintendo will still be at E3 and they will still be showing stuff off.
They just won't be getting onstage and doing a merry song and dance about it.

I object to your claims
Meh. This doesn't really bother me. After all, we have the Nintendo Directs to give us news. It would make sense for Nintendo to adopt a smaller-scale show for E3.

It isn't necessarily bad but I can see it going either way. With the direct conferences they are getting the full attention of their fans but it won't get as much coverage as E3. However, Nintendo were smart to realize that Microsoft and Sony would have all of the attention at E3.

Yeah, they would be getting a lot of attention with their new systems. Nintendo would have been overshadowed by that anyway.

Nintendo recently shed some light on the E3 plans.

Quote:

Before the E3 show floor opens, Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto will host a presentation to the media prior to E3.

Previously, Nintendo had announced that it would not be holding its regular, worldwide-focused pre-E3 press conference, instead hosting two smaller presentations, and using the expo to focus on upcoming software for North America. Despite this, Nintendo still plans on letting everyone know exactly what games are going to be on the show floor.

Nintendo will be holding the presentation on Tuesday morning, before the floor will be open up for all. After the presentation is concluded, the press members will be able to try the new software before everybody else. It is unsure at the time of writing if the presentation will be viewable for the public as well.
