I don't think it was so much listening to the fans as it was realizing that the console wasn't going to sell the way it was. It was originally going to be a 32bit 2D system but when they found out about Playstation and it being 3D they scrambled to change things so it could compete and we know how that turned out. It's still $100 more expensive too, that was the final nail in the coffin and still is. Consumers are heavily influenced by price, it's one reason the Wii was so successful and the Wii U isn't.

Even if most people didn't hate it before, it is still very expensive. They lost consumer trust because of their folly and correcting it won't help much. 1) It shows a lack of vision for their console. 2) It basically says that they don't know what gamers want. 3) It says their ideas sucked so they will be copying everyone else. So I just don't see them crawling out of this hole they've dug.

Even though they got rid of that always online DRM crap it still left a nasty taste in many peoples mouths leading them to pre-order a lesser known console or a PS4... Yep they're pretty much done for now. Of course they can still rely on frat boys to be buying their overpriced brick of a console though. And really die hard fans of Microsoft.

The damage has been done. Even the person I mentioned earlier that wanted it seems to not care anymore. I only know one person who's considering it now, and that's only if Microsoft continues to correct their mistakes at this rate. It's most likely too late to change much, though. We're expecting autumn/early winter, right?
