Epilouge: Which Game Has The Best Ending?

You know, it seems that no matter how mediocre the rest of the story might be, the ending of most Sonic games tend to end on a fairly decent note. But what game has the best ending in your opinion? Which one gave the best closure for a game? This is the topic to talk about it.

For me, it was difficult to figure out just what game had the best ending. So many of the games have really good conclusions. But after thinking about it, I will have to give the prestigious title of best ending to that of Sonic Generations.

Wow.

Could there have been any better way to end the series' twentieth anniversary game, a meeting of Classic and Modern? I don't think so. Everything about it is very well done. I loved the way the other characters interacted with one another (sans Shadow of course, who just stands there all by himself. xD). Made the whole scene seem much more lively.

The music that plays during the scene is nothing short of fantastic. It just fits so well. And the bit at the beginning with the chilli dog was a nice touch. Good way to allow that element to 'come full circle' as it were. Yeah, it was small, but it was a nice little thing to add.

(And Classic Tails is one of the most adorable things ever. ^_^ )

But what I liked most of all is the interaction between the two Sonics.

They played off each other rather well and I loved how Classic Sonic tried (but failed xD) to do the air dash. I thought that was really cute and I liked Modern Sonic's words afterwards. And speaking of words, we also have this gem just before Classic Sonic and Tails go back to the past;

"Enjoy your future Sonic! It's gonna be great!"

To me, this line just cements Sonic's longevity. Even when many people think the series should have just died off after the fifteenth anniversary game (yanno, Sonic 06? That game almost no one likes?), it has lasted long enough to give us a twentieth anniversary game. Sonic the Hedgehog is still holding out strongly today. June 23rd marks twenty-two years since the franchise began. Twenty-two years of a blue hedgehog that runs at the speed of light. Sonic's still here, even though there are people that think things should be otherwise, he's still around and from the looks of it, he's going to be around for a long time yet.

I don't know where I'm going.
This is something I've never given much thought. I agree with you on the Sonic Generations ending. It was a really nice, feel good sort of ending. The only ending that I can think back to that gave me that similar smirk and sense of accomplishment was actually Sonic Heroes.

lolwut

Yeah. I know. The feedback on this game was pretty mixed. It was either you loved it, or you hated it. I, personally, loved this game. The team gimmick was insane, the levels were loads of fun, and the story was pretty sweet too. When you play as the four teams, and run into each other throughout the game, you start learning what one team did before there was a conflict with another team. Rivalries were established, and a certain view on the enemy team was created. They looked down on each other a bit. As the game comes to a close, and Metal Sonic reveals himself as the brains behind the whole world takeover scheme, you see that they all had the same good intention. Despite their differences, they all came together and defeated Metal Sonic. Probably the cheesiest line in Sonic history, "Let's show him the real super power of TEAM WORK!" has a lot of power in it. As annoying as Sonic's friends are, they really do come together to defeat the evil they all sought after in the first place. When they all hold up their Chaos Emeralds, there's just this unity that has an impact on a kid. It's a game showing the power of friendship, which is a lesson that should be applied forever. It's always nice to see that ending, and see them all run around and everything.

I'll say Sonic Heroes has the best ending in a Sonic video game.

I gotta say Sonic 3 and Knuckles had a pretty good ending, really Sega didn't need to make a Sonic 4. (Not because it bombed, but because S3K ended so well that another game shouldn't have been made for the classic 16 bit trilogy...) All three character's ending fit really well into the whole death egg saga IMO. Not only did Sonic and his friends save the world and chaos emeralds, he gained a new power and saved the Super Emeralds as well.

In terms of sequence and favoritism, I loved the ending to Sonic CD. The final boss gave me no feeling whatsoever, seeing as there was no challenge or build-up to it at all. The zone wasn't even listed as the final zone either. But the ending video was absolutely epic.

In terms of feelgood emotion type scenarios, I'd go with Generations. The entire gang there and the best part of Generations undoubtedly is watching Classic and Modern interact.

But as a mash-up, Sonic Adventure 2 was emotional and pretty epic with Super Sonic and Super Shadow evoking double Chaos Control to save the world. Shadow sacrificing himself to save the planet and then the emotional responses as Sonic returns by himself. Plus the final boss was pretty cool, gave a slight sense of panic, great music, great scenario, just awesome.
-Sig under construction because the next thing I use will be hilarious-

Hey guys! Check out this game I made Here!

@SuperTails: Unleashed had an absolutely fantastic, if not very bittersweet ending. It definitely ranks up there as one of my favorite endings of the series.

Good vibes.
I'm not entirely sure what ending I like most.

Perhaps Sonic 06, because the ending is perfect. Why? It erases the entire game from the timeline, effectively making itself non-canon.

As for FAVORITE ending... Um... I did like SA2's ending. I kind of like the bittersweet tone.

I have to agree with you Blaire on Sonic Generations. The whole game was a great way to celebrate the anniversary.

A lot of sonic games have some really great endings that are all almost equally as great but in my opinion the absolute best to date has to be the end of Sonic Generations. I mean the atmosphere of the final boss battle is amazing (despite being in the atmosphere-less void of space lol), the music is intense and gripping fro the first half, but once you start to wear Eggman down it shifts into the orchestral main theme and gives you the feeling that only an epic final confrontation like that has.

And even after the final boss, there's still the final act in Terminal Velocity Zone. If there's one thing that the sonic games are known for, it's mach speed segments of running away from danger, but something about speeding down the side of an orbital elevator while pieces of it fly off into space and trying to outrunning a freaking black hole, just make the final act so much better.

Unleashed is by far my favorite ending. It gave me an after the storm feel.

After the world being broken to pieces, Sonic fighting off creatures of the night and Eggman, and literally going toe-to-toe with the Devil. It made you feel proud to see that ending, where Sonic just takes a deep breath, and runs off with Tails at his side.

I think what makes the ending of Unleashed so memorable for me is how bittersweet it is. Yeah, I know, it was sad when Chip went back to sleep underneath Earth, and the fact that Sonic and him probably aren't going to see each other again was really depressing in a way, because I actually really liked Chip.

However, that scene where Sonic puts on Chip's necklace, quietly reflecting on his memory as we hear a voice over from Chip himself? It's pretty touching actually. And then you have Tails arrive on scene in the Tornado, upon which Sonic takes off. That's Sonic for you, not dwelling on the past too much, not wondering about the future, just trying to live in the moment.

Sonic Adventure 2's ending was pretty intense, what with Shadow dying and Eggman actually encouraging Sonic to kill biolizard.
