Blaire Fields was in a good mood.

She had recently gotten her third win, a rather easy match that came down to the decisions of the judges when she and her opponent had timed out. She didn’t know what she had done to earn the judge’s favor, but she hoped that she would be able to keep it up in her next match. Just in case.

“So,” the husky began, glancing at the guide walking besides her, a bright smile on her lavender muzzle. “Where is my next match going to be held?”

The guide, a young female tiger, allowed herself a light chuckle. “Oh you’re in luck! Because this next match will be held in an arena that we have not yet used this entire tournament!”

Blaire crossed her arms over her chest and cocked her head in inquisitiveness. “Is that so?”

“Indeed,” the feline answered, giving the dog a wink. “As for what kind of arena this is, well, I’d hate to ruin the surprise.”

“Fair enough,” the violet-furred Mobian replied with a nod.

“And here we are,” the tiger declared, suddenly halting. “The site for your next match!”

For several seconds, Blaire could only look around, completely speechless. She had expected a fairly elaborate, if not slightly deadly arena. The tiger’s words and tone had suggested that it was something to be at least somewhat amazed at. But this? This looked positively boring.

What the husky saw before her was a massive, yet simple grate. That was it. There was nothing even remotely special about this arena. No stone dragon heads on either end, no fog enveloping the area, nothing. When it came to arenas, this one was about as dull as dull could get. However…

Blaire took a few cautious steps forward and looked down into the grate. For this place did remind her of a stadium she battled in a previous tournament. It too had a grate for a floor – a grate that allowed a strange kind of gas to escape. The husky recalled quite vividly how the gas caused her to have some very strange hallucinations. It was not an experience she hoped to have again. However, when she looked inside, all the dog could see was a pit filled with water.

“Oh.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Well this seems harmless enough. Could stand to be a bit more exciting though.”

Blaire casually switched on her cryokinetic bangle, whistling to herself. She then wiped some sweat off her brow, a scowl crossing her muzzle. “Ugh. Why is it so hot here?”

The most important meal of the day
Rael pursed her lips as she eyed her wounded opponent. Her face was apathetic, but behind her golden eyes, the slightest bits of pity were shining through. She gripped the arrows she had pulled from her opponent's flesh tightly, holding them like a pointy bouquet. Suddenly, they vanished, much like her bow did.

"Are you done? Why are we. Just sitting here I'm. Right here why don't you try and hit me?" Rael shook her head and turned to walk away. Clearly, she was not worried about the husky pulling any funny business on her while her back was turned. Besides, in just a moment Rael had returned, bearing a gift.

"Here."

Rael tossed her opponent's weapon in front of her, and it clattered on the ground. The water was pretty much completely gone now, so it was only a matter of going to pick it up.

"Stop whining," Rael said monotonously as she knelt down in front of her opponent.

"Give me that."
Rael hovered her hand over Blaire's injured one. The girl's hand glowed with the same Darma energy she had used a couple times earlier, only this one was colored a slightly different tint. The glow from Rael's hand would soon cover Blaire's injured one and seep into it. Once it dissipated, her wound would be all better. It wasn't a major wound, so her Darma would be able to heal it completely.

"There. Better?" Rael asked as she stood up again. "So here's what I'm thinking. You can forfeit. And I'll heal you. And that will be the end of that. Or you can pick that up. And get up and fight me. But then I will fight back and. Open fire. It is up to you."

With that, Rael nudged her opponent's saber closer to her using the toe of her sodden boot.

All was silent for a while, neither opponent making a move. Finally, the arrows vanished in Rael’s hands, as did her bow, and she spoke to the downed husky.

Are you done? Why are we. Just sitting here I’m. Right here why don’t you try and hit me?

Like I really could as injured as I am,” Blaire thought to herself, letting out a deep sigh. Rael turned and took a few steps away from the husky. To the dog’s surprise, the human momentarily returned, her saber in hand.

Here.

Rael tossed the weapon, the blade clattering against the now dry ground. Blaire looked at her opponent in bewilderment, not understanding why she was just giving her sword back.

Stop whinning.

Whinning? I’m not whinning. Not much anyways,” Blaire mused, her ears twitching slightly.

Give me that.

The dog slowly raised her head. “And just what is it you want me to give to you?” she questioned, narrowing her eyes. In response, the human held her hand over Blaire’s injured one. That same light appeared once again, surrounding Rael’s hand. The canine’s eyes widened in shock as the light began to seep into her own, and began to repair the wounded appendage.

Blaire couldn’t get her words straight. “I... you… why… but…”

There. Better?

“Y-yeah, much,” Blaire answered, twisting her hand around and closely examining it, still shocked at what was going on.

So here’s what I’m thinking. You can forfeit. And I’ll heal you. And that’ll be the end of that. Or you can pick that up. And get up and fight me. But then I will fight back and. Open fire. It is up to you.

The husky hung her head as she considered her foe’s words. Part of her didn’t trust the human not to pull a fast one and just shoot her right off. On the other hand, the O.R.D. Agent wasn’t dumb. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to fight well with her back as injured as it was. She knew she was beat either way.

Blaire slowly reached for and grabbed her sword. But instead of swinging it at her opponent in an attack, the young husky simply returned the blade back into the scabbard on her belt. Just as slowly, she raised her head to look her opponent in the eyes. When she spoke, her voice was filled with neither defeat nor anger, but calm acceptance.

“Just this one time I will surrender and let you win. However, next time around, things are going to be a lot different. Are we clear on this?”

"Understood," Rael answered, folding her eyes down. She holstered her gun and pushed her damp bangs off of her forehead all in one fluid motion.

"I was worried about the water," Rael said in an attempt to ward off any awkward post-match silence, "I can't. Really swim very well."

Rael kneeled down next to her former opponent once again and held her glowing hand over the dog's heart. A few moments later, she did the same for her back.

"That should. Do it. Come on, Blaire," Rael grabbed the husky by the arm to help her stand. Rael was relieved that she had made it out of this one. She had no regrets for anything in this match, because she knew her Darma was right, her opponent was a good person. Really, Rael was just doing her duty. But, whenever she decided to use her Darma for someone else, it was usually because of a personal issue. The stuff wasn't easy to come by-- she had to defeat demons to replenish her supply. But Rael had no regrets.

"Let's get out of this God-forsaken place."
