Blaire Fields was in a good mood.

She had recently gotten her third win, a rather easy match that came down to the decisions of the judges when she and her opponent had timed out. She didn’t know what she had done to earn the judge’s favor, but she hoped that she would be able to keep it up in her next match. Just in case.

“So,” the husky began, glancing at the guide walking besides her, a bright smile on her lavender muzzle. “Where is my next match going to be held?”

The guide, a young female tiger, allowed herself a light chuckle. “Oh you’re in luck! Because this next match will be held in an arena that we have not yet used this entire tournament!”

Blaire crossed her arms over her chest and cocked her head in inquisitiveness. “Is that so?”

“Indeed,” the feline answered, giving the dog a wink. “As for what kind of arena this is, well, I’d hate to ruin the surprise.”

“Fair enough,” the violet-furred Mobian replied with a nod.

“And here we are,” the tiger declared, suddenly halting. “The site for your next match!”

For several seconds, Blaire could only look around, completely speechless. She had expected a fairly elaborate, if not slightly deadly arena. The tiger’s words and tone had suggested that it was something to be at least somewhat amazed at. But this? This looked positively boring.

What the husky saw before her was a massive, yet simple grate. That was it. There was nothing even remotely special about this arena. No stone dragon heads on either end, no fog enveloping the area, nothing. When it came to arenas, this one was about as dull as dull could get. However…

Blaire took a few cautious steps forward and looked down into the grate. For this place did remind her of a stadium she battled in a previous tournament. It too had a grate for a floor – a grate that allowed a strange kind of gas to escape. The husky recalled quite vividly how the gas caused her to have some very strange hallucinations. It was not an experience she hoped to have again. However, when she looked inside, all the dog could see was a pit filled with water.

“Oh.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Well this seems harmless enough. Could stand to be a bit more exciting though.”

Blaire casually switched on her cryokinetic bangle, whistling to herself. She then wiped some sweat off her brow, a scowl crossing her muzzle. “Ugh. Why is it so hot here?”

Raelean was lost in thought as she was led to the arena where her next battle would be taking place. She was still thrown off by how she had come out on top with her last battle, the one against her only friend. She had been whisked away before she had even a chance to talk to him. None of that mattered now because she needed to get her game face on. It was time for her third match, and time to win.

While Rael figured that no arena could possibly be worse than her last one, (a decrepit old clock tower that was literally falling apart), she didn't expect her current arena to be just a circular area with a grate covering a hole in the ground. Come to think of it, she couldn't even quite remember how exactly they had gotten here. This was certainly not a place she had seen or heard of before. It was kinda strange, and kinda hot.

Rael shed her white leather jacket, leaving her arms as well as her legs bare, and tied her thick, dark brown-and-white locks up into a high ponytail so as to expose her neck to any breeze that might decide to come their way. She instantly felt about half a degree cooler. Why did it have to be so hot?

Looking around, Rael tapped the grate with the toe of her boot. It seemed pretty sturdy, which was good seeing as it was quite a ways down and then just a pit with water beneath it. Then she did a full-on double take when she saw who she presumed was her opponent.

"Oh haha. Very funny," Rael said in her usual, broken, monotonous speech, "You have got to be kidding me. A dog. Really."

Rael shook her head and looked at her opponent head on, her eyes doing their yellow flashy thingy that was one of the physical signs that Rael had spirits with her.

"Out of my way, Short Stack. You're in my way of winning."

Blaire was really wishing that she had brought a fan to this place. The sun was harsh, beating down upon her with relentless force. Already the husky was feeling the heat sapping her energy, siphoning it straight out of her. She would have given anything to be able to fight in a cooler arena!

Much like her opponent had done with her jacket, Blaire removed her trench coat – it didn’t do much to make her any cooler.

“What is with the heat here?” she whispered, wiping some sweat off her brow. “This is ridiculous how I keep ending up fighting in arenas with some type of heat source! And I think this is the worst yet!”

With her last statement Blaire had raised her voice, her words resonating throughout the ring like ripples in a pond after a stone had been chucked in. The outburst was out of character for the husky, but at least it served to make her feel a little better. The canine hung her head, her ears drooping to the sides.

Upon casting her gaze to the ground, Blaire caught sight of a shadow. The silhouette had the distinct shape of a human, and a fairly tall one at that. The husky turned around to see her opponent, a young woman just a couple years her junior. However, being a human, she was also taller than the violet-furred Mobian.

Oh. Haha. Very funny. You have got to be kidding me. A dog. Really.

Blaire crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head. Some people were certainly hard to please here.

Out of my way, Short Stack. You’re in my way of winning.

The canine chuckled at that statement. “I’m in your way of winning, you say?” She pressed her finger tips to her chest and leaned forward with a smirk across her muzzle. “I believe you have that backwards. But anyway, allow me to introduce myself.”

Blaire took a step forward, gently grasping the hilt of her saber. “I am…”

It all happened so fast. One moment, the husky was standing atop the grate. But within the span of but a few seconds, the grate had suddenly opened up, and Blaire was falling head over heels into the pit. She didn’t even have time to let out a scream before…

Rael cocked her head sideways a bit as her opponent responded to her. She was still slightly in awe that she would actually be fighting a Mobian (of course, the awe did not show on her face). She had fought a wide variety of demons in the past, some shaped like animals, and yes, some that could talk... But this was much different. With the way this particular one carried herself, the way she stood and the way she talked, Rael felt she could not take it easy on her, or she would lose.

Rael eyed her opponent as she reached for what she deduced was the hilt of a sword. Rael narrowed her glowing, golden eyes and reached for the snap of her gun holster strap. She had already fought against a sword once in this tournament, and she had found that the best defense against it for her was to evade it, and then try to get the sword out of her hands. If she could do that, she should be fine.

Just as Rael un-snapped the strap and was withdrawing her gun, the floor completely dropped from beneath her. The grate had suddenly opened up, dumping her and her opponent into the watery pit below. Rael had time to let out a shriek as she descended, but it was cut short when her body was emerged in the water and said water flooded her mouth and cut her scream short.

Rael panicked underwater for a few moments, thrashing around as if the water were a physical enemy, trying to choke her and strangle her and drag her down farther. As far as she was concerned, it was. Rael was not a strong swimmer, especially when she hadn't even known she would be taking a swim! Rael kicked upwards towards the surface and broke it, splashing around like a shark attack victim. She choked and sputtered and made a huge deal of trying to catch her breath. It took her a minute or two for her to finally calm down.

"This is ridiculous..." Rael grumbled angrily as she looked around for a dry spot of land to go to. But as far as she could tell, they were just in a pit filled with water. Above her, the grate closed up with a resounding and emphatic metallic thud. Chains with large hooks dangled down, but Rael would have to reach if she wanted to grab one and climb out. However, she had bigger fish to fry. And by fish, she meant dogs.

"Wet dog... Classic," Rael taunted, although her voice was completely flat, as usual. She was hardly one to talk, she was clearly having a hard time even staying afloat. How she wished she had actually taken those swimming lessons her mother signed her up for when she was young.

Suddenly, Rael realized that she had somehow lost her gun during the descent. It must've flown out of her grasp either during the fall or during her thrashing about under the water. Rael looked around frantically, but it was no use. She knew exactly where the gun went... down. And if she tried to chase it, she doubted she would be able to make it back up. She would be sunk as well.

To Blaire, the water was like freedom in and of itself, a liberation from the blazing heat of the sun. It was also completely unexpected and the canine found herself struggling within its depths. Thankfully, the dog was a fairly good swimmer – the problem came from the fact that this issue completely out of left field. It took her a few seconds to regain her bearings but when she did, the husky was able to kick herself back up to the surface.

Blaire broke through the surface of the water like a bullet through a glass window. Droplets flew every which way, glistening like diamonds under the strong light of the sun. The young Oakland Resistance Division Agent took a big gulp of air, only to suddenly let out a harsh cough. Blaire clutched her chest as cleared her water-logged lungs, taking deep slow breaths once that was done.

“I… am beginning to really hate this tournament.” Blaire leaned against the stone wall, allowing herself a moment to plan a mode of action. She quickly noted how her opponent was struggling in the water, rather frantically at that. It took the human a bit longer, but she did manage to calm down – just in time for the grate to shut with a loud thud, casting a gridded shadow over the two combatants.

Wet dog… Classic.

Blaire scowled, flattening her ears behind her head. “Gee, thanks for that,” she replied sarcastically.

The canine looked up and saw thirteen chains hanging from the grate. A hook large enough for one of them to stand in. Maybe if she could get up on one of them, she could launch an attack on her opponent. But then she would be right in the target of the sun’s heat. And while the water wasn’t keeping her as cool as she would have liked, it was still a more bearable position than what she had been through on the surface.

The best thing for me to do is try to see if I can actually fight in the water before I go and risk melting in that sheer heat.” Blaire reasoned, pulling out her sword. She placed the blade in-between her teeth and dived under the water, where she began swimming towards her opponent.

Alright, let’s see what you’ve got!” Blaire thought as she swung her saber the best she could. The water offered quite a bit resistance, however, making her swing very sluggish. Still, the husky hoped she would get lucky with this.

"You're welcome," Rael said in response, rolling her eyes. However, she was beginning to think that her thoughts about her opponent she had earlier were true-- the fact that the husky meant business. The dog came swimming towards her with her sword in her mouth, faster than Rael could swim away.

"Whoa, whoa. What. Are you trying to pull?" Rael tried to back away but it was no use, the water was not her strong point. The dog swung her sword half-ass at Rael, probably because of the water resistance. Even so, Rael wasn't fast enough in the water to evade it. Thinking quickly, she held her arm up to block in between the saber and the rest of her body, causing her forearm to get slashed.

Rael winced, but held back any cries of pain in hopes of throwing her opponent off. She was far from done here, and besides, the wound wasn't even that bad. The dog hadn't even swung that hard.

"Get away from me," Rael mumbled as she kicked at the dog's stomach under water. She figured she had two options here: 1) she could try and get her opponent away long enough to grab those hooks and get out of the water, or 2) she could try and get her opponent's weapon away from her and hopefully give herself the advantage. So, Rael decided to employ both tactics at once.

Her eyes flashing bright yellow, Rael's hands glowed with their otherworldly energy as she dove for the husky. She wrapped one Darma-covered hand around the dog's sword-holding wrist and her other hand around the dog's hand that grasped the handle. Then she began trying to wrestle it out of her grasp, first by prying her hand off of it--er, paw... Rael found this very strange.

"Might as well make this somewhat even. What do you. Say?" Rael grunted as she used her Darma for added strength. Most likely, the dog would find that Rael's extra burst of Darma would be too much to contend with. She would feel like she was wrestling with a body builder at this point. Rael planned on getting the sword and then dumping it under the water, so both of their weapons would be lost. Then it would be an easy win for Rael... Or so she hoped.

Through the murky water, Blaire could see her opponent’s reaction as the husky swung her saber at the human. The canine smirked to herself when the blade hit, though it didn’t cut deep. Not that she expected it to, given that she wasn’t even able to swing her sword that hard.

Maybe I should-

Blaire’s cry was muffled by the water as her foe slammed her boots into the husky’s stomach. The young Mobian was jolted backwards and found herself flailing about in the aqua-filled pit as her bearings where lost. In the process, the young Mobian even ended up upside down in the water.

This is not what I had in mind when I signed up for this! Wait, what’s this?

An ethereal glow lit up the water even more than the hot sun already was. Blaire looked on in surprise as the human she was fighting lunged at her, hands prepared to grab something – that mere surprise turned into complete shock when her opponent grabbed the husky’s wrists and pulled.

What on Mobius?!

Blaire tried to pull back as best she could, but her current position in the water made it very difficult of an attempt to do so. The violet-furred Mobian twisted her body around as best she could to try and right herself. However, since she had someone holding her wrists, that person would be whirled about as well.

And who knew if her opponent had a weak constitution or not?

Rael wasn't sure why she wasn't initially expecting her opponent to fight back, but fight back she did. The girl felt like a deep sea fisher that got pulled into the water by some giant slippery fish that she was desperately trying to hold on to. It only made matters worse that they rolled and thrashed around under the water for several minutes. Honestly, Rael could've easily pried the weapon from the dog's grasp if she weren't busy trying not to drown. Like, say, if they were on land.

When Rael managed to get her head above water, her bangs were plastered to her face, but did not completely hide her furious expression.

"Enough. Of this petty cat fight. Let's fight like we. Mean it."

With that, Rael gave one last mighty tug, as she ultimately decided to give up on this effort. If the weapon came loose, and Rael won the little tug-of-war, then she would dump it underwater, and they would be evenly matched. If the husky was intent on keeping her paws clamped to that sword, then so be it. Rael had a back-up plan, which required her to swallow her pride, and perhaps her last breath of air. Hopefully it didn't come to that.

For several minutes, water flew in every direction, splashing violently onto the walls and the chains as the two rivals thrashed about in the pool of the pit. And through it all, neither of the two let go. Not Blaire in releasing her sword, nor Rael in loosening her grip on the husky’s wrists. However, the canine was not about to let her saber drop into the water. Sure, she would easily be able to dive down and retrieve the weapon, but why leave herself defenseless like that? That was probably what her foe was planning on anyway.

Enough. Of this petty cat fight. Let’s fight like we. Mean it.

Blaire shot a smirk at Rael’s statement. “Heh, cat fight?” She tilted her head to the side, her grin growing wider…

Only for it to promptly vanish when Rael jerked her arms back with surprising strength. With a cry, Blaire was pulled underwater yet again, only this time, her saber was pulled out of her grip.

Oh crud…crud…crud!

The husky flailed about for a few seconds, before popping her head above the water, gasping for air. She looked at her opponent, whereupon she noticed that her sword was no longer in the human’s grip. Instead, it was slowly sinking into a watery grave.

“Oh shoot…”

Blaire considered diving down to grab the weapon, but again, she felt that would be a big risk. The canine looked up at the chains hanging from the grate, shielding her eyes from the sun with a hand. She scowled. “Wait, is it just me, or is the water much lower?”

Indeed, the water level seemed far lower than it had been when Blaire and Rael first fell into this pit. Chains that had been easy to grab before now hung far out of reach. And because of the hot sun cooking everything inside, the stone walls where liquid had once been were almost completely dry, as if there hadn’t been any water against them at all.

A sly grin crossed Blaire’s face as she grabbed one of the hooks that was still within reach and pulled herself up onto it. Free from the cool water and back into the heat, however, the grin faded as the dog felt the full brunt of the sun’s rays blasting down on her.

“I hope I know what I’m doing,” the canine whispered to herself, praying that the idea she had would bear fruit.

Rael felt a wave of satisfaction come over her as her brutal tactic worked: Rip the weapon from the clutches of the enemy and dump it far from reach. Now she was sure she would have the advantage. After all, she still had one weapon of her own. Additionally, she had her powers, which she had only given the husky a small taste of. Unless the husky had strange powers of her own she had yet to showcase, the girl now felt like she had this in the bag.

Rael took a moment to catch her breath, as wrestling around in the water took a surprising toll on her. She narrowed her golden eyes at her opponent as the dog gripped one of the hanging chains and exited the water.

"Where do you think you're going," Rael asked in her flat voice. She looked around for a chain to grab on to, but found that they were all a lot higher up than they were before. No, that wasn't it. The water level was decreasing, therefore, the chains were harder to reach. That didn't bother Rael though. She could utilize the chains suspended in the air until the water was shallow enough to safely reach her weapon, yet deep enough for her to be able to drop down without sustaining an injury. Hopefully the husky didn't get the same idea.

Rael began reaching for a chain until the wound in her arm shot through with pain in protest. She had almost forgotten about that, what with the adrenaline from the battle. Instead, she reached up with her good arm, her fingers barely wrapping around the hook at the end of the chain. But, she managed to grab it, and now found herself with a problem.

This was where being physically weak had its downside. There was no way she'd be able to pull her whole entire body weight up and climb that chain with just one hand. It just wasn't going to happen. Add the additional weight of being completely soaked, and you end up with a situation that left Rael literally stuck. She stayed there for a moment, contemplating her options.

"Oh. Darma. Duh."

Rael concentrated some of her extra Darma reserves into the arm that grasped the hook. Her glowing energy completely encased it, her golden eyes flashing bright as she pulled herself up easily onto the hook with just the one hand.

The hook was large enough to stand on, so she did just that, although keeping her balance was difficult due to the small area to stand and the fact that she was wet and slippery. She held onto the chain to keep her from slipping off. The air was just as hot as she had remembered from before the fight started and before they were dumped into the water, or maybe just a little less hot. However, she knew it wouldn't bother her as much as it would bother her furry little friend over there.

Rael looked down, panting slightly as her eyes went back to normal and the glow from her Darma faded away. She took a moment to think out her strategy, now that she and the husky were on even terms. The only long range weapon Rael had left was her bow. She couldn't hope to fight close range until the water was completely drained--if it completely drained--because she would be stuck at a disadvantage on account of her lack of swimming ability. So the bow would have to do.

That presented another problem. She needed both hands to shoot the arrows. But she couldn't keep her balance without at least one hand gripping the chain.

"Time to get creative. How. Does a dog-kabob sound?"

With that, Rael dropped down, but caught herself on the hook with her foot. Hanging upside down, the tip of her wet ponytail skimming the surface of the water, Rael raised her arms in bow-weilding position, pointed towards the dog, and summoned her Holy Weapon. Instantly, a shimmery bluish-white light appeared dancing around her hands and her sleek, powerful bow formed from the particles of light. It only took an additional second for Rael to summon a single arrow. She aimed... And fired, straight for her opponent's chest. She knew the wound would probably not be fatal, simply because Rael sensed no evil in the husky. Regardless, Rael was determined to end this and end it fast before the husky was allowed to reach her sword again.

Bangle Charge at 100%. Affect shall now activate.

Blaire sighed in relief when she felt the temperature around her lower to a much more bearable level. To the husky, at least. If Rael got closer, there was probably a good chance that the human would be at least a little uncomfortable in the thirty-two degree temperature that surrounded Blaire for a few feet.

But the dog, for at least a short time, would be very at ease on the other hand. She only hoped that she could end this match before the effect of her Cryokinetic Bangle ran out.

The chilly temperature restoring both her strength and her confidence, the canine could now go onto the attack. For the low temperature would also allow her to use her Cryokinesis. And Blaire was sure Rael didn’t know she had that such a power, thus giving the husky the very useful element of surprise. She formed a pair of long ice shards, one in each of her hands. However, as she slowly lifted them to where she could aim at her opponent, she looked down and saw the human trying to climb up onto one of the other hooks.

Blaire raised an eyebrow as she watched Rael have a difficult time getting onto the hook. From the looks of it, the human’s injured arm wasn’t doing her any favors. The dog snickered. “Well, this is only going to make things even easier for me, aha!

A bizarre glow emitted from the human, strangely similar to the one Blaire had seen when the two of them were still in the water. And somehow, that glow gave Rael the power to get herself onto the hook, something that had Blaire scratching her head in bewilderment.

How on Mobius did she…eh, never mind that. What else can she do that I need to know about?” The canine thought to herself, leaning forward slightly, making sure to keep her grip on a chain link so as not to fall back into the water.

Time to get creative. How. Does a dog-kabob sound?

“To be honest, not very appetizing,” Blaire answered, shaking her head. “And it’s time for me to stop wasting time and get the show on the…wait. What on Mobius?

As the husky was about to throw her ice shards, Rael leaned forward so far that she fell off the hook. Or she would have, if she hadn’t gotten her foot caught on the hook. Now, hanging upside down, a bow and arrow formed in her hands. Blaire nearly recoiled backwards at the sight. “She can summon weapons out of nowhere? What the? What kind of opponent am I fighting here?

There was no more time to waste. The canine tossed the ice shards with all that she could muster, hoping that they would pierce Rael’s shoulders and make them too injured for her to use her weapons; Blaire looked on in horror as the ice began to melt, and rather rapidly at that, thanks to the blazing hot sun above. But before she could see if the ice could still have done its job, before the quickly thawing shards could hit the human, Blaire was shot right in the chest by the arrow.

It pierced the dog’s heart. By all counts, Blaire should have been dead on the spot. But no, she had survived as if the arrow had completely missed her. However, that didn’t stop the husky from getting recoiled back, losing her grip on the chain and falling backwards down into the water below…

Rael's eyes glittered in satisfaction as the arrow struck its mark. The husky fell back into the water with the arrow sticking out of her chest.

"Right in the heart. Excellent."

Despite the blood rushing to her head, Rael remained hanging upside down from the hook, swinging ever so slightly side to side. She eyed her opponent with an almost undetectable look of curiosity. She had indeed noticed the dog's powers, although they didn't seem very effective with the current temperature. But, was it just her, or was the temperature going down little by little? If that was true, Rael would have to be wary of her opponent's ice attacks.

"Darn. My arrow did not kill. You. Well that's good. I suppose. You must be a good person after. All. What do you do for a living?" Rael asked as she summoned three arrows and aimed them at the dog.

"I hope you can talk and dodge."

With that, Rael fired, and all three arrows whizzed through the air in a horizontal formation. Naturally, they wouldn't all hit the dog, some would pierce the surface of the water. However, Rael's tactic was to use her position above her opponent to shower arrows down on her. Since she knew her shot wouldn't kill her opponent, she merely aimed to slow her down, or scare her, or both.

Well, that was her tactic, until she got so dizzy she just couldn't stay upside down like that anymore. Rael looked down and realized that the water was now low enough to where it would be a deal safer for her to attempt to dive for her gun. That would be more effective a weapon, it seemed, especially if her arrows kept refusing to do more than the most minimal damage to her opponent.

Pulling herself back up onto the hook in a standing position, Rael decided it was high time she introduced herself. After all, she couldn't just display her otherworldly powers and summon her bow from mid-air and expect her opponent to not be the least bit curious. It seemed the husky was not prepared for this. So she explained.

"My name is Raelean Sivth. I was given. Powers from above in order to carry out a mission I received. From a higher power. I go around vanquishing demons, and finding ways to make myself and. My weapons stronger. Everything I do is for the good of everyone else. So you see... There's no beating me. I am not like you. Or anyone else you've ever met."

After her monologue, Rael dove into the water and began swimming downwards. It was difficult to see, and difficult to swim for that matter, but it wasn't long before she reached the bottom and started searching around for her gun. She'd have to be quick, or the husky would find some way to get her. After all, Rael was disadvantaged in the water.

Thunk!

Blaire’s body pierced the water, and slammed onto the submerged ground below. Pain shot through her back, the water muffling her screams. It was rather fortunate that the husky’s head didn’t hit the ground as well, else there would have been a chance of her getting knocked out and thus drowning under the water.

The canine’s mind raced with but one looping thought;

This is bad, this is bad, this is bad, this is bad!

With her back injured like that, Blaire knew that she was going to have an even more difficult time in this battle now. As she tried to swim back up to the surface, the pain in her back was so great that she had to go slowly in order to prevent stressing things even more.

Right in the heart. Excellent.

Blaire raised her head to look at her opponent, who was still hanging upside down on a hook. The Oakland Resistance Division Agent then rolled her eyes back down to her chest, where the arrow was still sticking out. Blaire considered pulling it out, but thought better of it, not knowing what could happen if she took the weapon out and not wanting to find out.

Darn. My arrow did not kill. You. Well that’s good. I suppose. You must be a good person after. All. What do you do for a living?

The human summoned three more arrows and aimed them all at the violet-furred Mobian, much to Blaire’s uneasiness and displeasure. Also, she was getting annoyed at the way Rael would stop in the middle of her sentences. Her ears tilted back in her irritation.

I hope you can talk an dodge.

With that, Blaire’s ears shot up. For at that very moment, Rael let fly the three arrows from her bow. Normally, even in the water, the Mobian would have been able to dodge all three of them really easily. But with her back injured and the slightest movement sending waves of severe pain down it, what should have been an easy task became nigh impossible for her to manage. While one of the arrows missed its mark, it did so just barely. As for the other two, one of them impaled her right hand and the second went right into the small of her back. Tears ran down her cheek as she tried her best to hold in a scream that wanted desperately to be let out.

My name is Raelean Sivth. I was given. Powers from above in order to carry out a mission I received. From a higher power. I go around vanquishing demons, and finding ways to make myself and. My weapons stronger. Everything I do is for the good of everyone else. So you see… There is no beating me. I am not like you. Or anyone else you’ve ever meant.

“So that’s your deal, is it?” Blaire asked weakly, looking at her foe through the corner of her eyes. A weak smirk crossed the dog’s face. “Heh, you kind of remind me of myself in some aspects.”

Splash!

Rael dove into the water, having better luck than Blaire did at avoiding injury. The canine continued speaking as if the human was still on the hook, keeping a close eye on her.

The canine’s body lowered into the water. “As for me, the name’s Blaire Fields. I’m an agent of an organization known as the Oakland Resistance Division. It’s a freedom fighter group founded to help take down Robotnik’s reign on the planet of Mobius. It’s a hard job, yes, but we are proud of our mission and endeavor to succeed, somehow.”

The most important meal of the day
"I know nothing of what you speak about."

This was Rael's only reply to her opponent's introduction. When she emerged from the shallow depths of the water, she held her gun in her hand, successfully retrieved. And she managed to avoid drowning, too. What a lucky day for her.

"You're a good soul. I can't kill you. With. My arrows. No matter how many I shoot. But. Bullets don't discriminate," Rael said as she aimed the mundane and slightly more menacing weapon at her opponent. She took a step toward the husky, and then another, slowly approaching her.

"Luckily for you. However. I need to let this. Dry," Rael explained as she shook the firearm slightly, still approaching her opponent. The water was now drained enough that she could wade across the ground, the water only being to her waist. Soon, Rael figured, the pit would be completely dry. But then what? Would it fill up again? Would the grate open? This whole arena--and battle, for that matter--was kind of unpredictable.

Rael was now within arm's reach of the husky. She reached out and attempted to snatch the arrow sticking out of the poor creature's chest, taking no time or care to be gentle. Rael knew it would hurt. She didn't care. Okay, she kind of cared. That's why she was doing it. But not really. Afterwards, she would attempt to snatch the other two out as well, but only if the dog let her.

"You know when my gun dries I'm. Going to shoot you. I haven't decided where yet. Though. Do you have any preferences? Let me guess... Not the face?"

I object to your claims
I know nothing of what you speak about.

Those were the very words Rael uttered as she emerged from the water, gun in hand. Blaire’s ears drooped to the side at the sight of the weapon. She let out a deep sigh – halfway through, she gasped in pain. “I didn’t figure you would. But, you did ask what I do for a living.”

You’re a good soul. I can’t kill you. With. My arrows. No matter how many I shoot. But. Bullets don’t discriminate.

Rael took a couple steps towards the husky, aiming the gun at her. Blaire fell to her knees, tears still falling thanks to the excruciating pain in her back.

Luckily for you. However. I need to let this. Dry.

Blaire hung her head, a melancholy expression on her violet-furred visage. “Am I really that lucky? Doesn’t seem like it to me at all.”

A sudden surge of pain erupted from Blaire’s chest and the strangled cry that the dog had been holding in all this time was at last released. The tears flew more freely down the Mobian’s face, only increasing the same thing happened to her hand and back. The canine looked down to see that the arrows were out of her body. Not that it was doing her any good – sure she didn’t bleed out when the weapons were removed, but the pain was getting very debilitating.

Blaire honestly wasn’t sure how much longer she was going to last in this battle.

You know when my gun dries I’m. Going to shoot you. I haven’t decided where yet. Though. Do you have any preferences? Let me guess… Not the face?

Weakly, the husky nodded her confirmation. “Yes. Anywhere but the face. Please. If I go out, at least I’m going to do so with at least some semblance of dignity.”
