Gaming Group sub-forum?

I'm sure this idea has been tossed out before, but for simplicity's sake, let's just assume it hasn't. Ever since attempting to organize a play session with a few members on here for PS All-Stars (and ultimately failing due to not organizing it properly), I've been toying with the notion that the G.U.N. Game Zone should have a sub-forum that members could use to organize game sessions with other members on the board.

It could be divided by gaming platform (based on the 'Fan Club' groups established by Metallix) for organizational purposes, or simply general-purpose, but it would allow members to set up play time with other members. It could be as simple as "who wants to play a round of Black Ops?", to something more complex like a Sonic Blast Team Fortress 2 team with a discussion topic. Ultimately this idea would be fuelled by the forum's inclination to use such an idea, so I was wondering what the general consensus was on an idea like this.

I think it would be a great opportunity for members to branch out and play together, as well as paving the way for larger, more organized events like gaming tourneys and the like depending on public interest; and since most members have their information listed on their profile, connectivity shouldn't be much of an issue.

What are your thoughts on something like this?

I don't know where I'm going.
Finally. A good idea. It's been awhile since I've seen one of those. Quick question though...

Do you mean amongst single individuals or tourneys? One-on-One can get setup via Messenger, which is why I ask.

I still can't use this.

Why not simply topics devoted to setting up specific game tourneys?

Well, that's also plausible, but I was thinking a sub-forum simply for the sake of minimizing clutter. Either way would work.

@Lacen: One on one could be set up through Messenger, yeah, but throwing the idea out for more people to see would be a better way of garnering interest. If you already had someone in mind, then it'd probably be best to go the way you suggested.

I personally think this is a nice idea. I say we should go for it.

I certainly wouldn't mind to see a change, and this sounds like a good example.

I like this idea, let's do it. Although, no one would ever play any of the games that I do so it's not like I could contribute. Still, worth a shot. Maybe I'd be surprised.

I agree with this idea immensely and I would actually be willing to set this up same-day.

I think it's a great idea! The more organized, the better. = ] It'll also help strengthen community ties.

We did try this once before and it died because very few people here seem to play the same games.

Something like this is what I figured the general discussion topics for games I suggested could be used for, so I'm all for the idea personally. Another forum I'm on has a sub-section just like this for organising games with each-other and it works a treat. All the games with major interest have got a topic and they're often used to organise games and generally list whoever is playing the games and on what system.

So yeah, I'm all for giving this a try. I don't know if the community is quite diverse enough to warrant separate sub-forums for each platform, so general purpose should be fine. Dividing it up that much sounds a little messy anyhow.

Well an earlier post suggested basing it on the Clubs that some folks have in their profiles. All the Sony peeps would have one, the Ninties have one, the hardcore SEGAs have one, the XBOXers have one and the PC gamers master race have one.

Yeah. But the question is do we really have enough people in each group to warrant separate sub-forums? And what happens with multi-platform games?

Just something to consider in the implementation process, I suppose.

yes. To everything that this means.
A lot better than my attempt at a "Matchmaking" Thread. This will be the answer to the percentage of us that are looking for a good gaming session.

Well, I suppose we could start with a few topics to help gauge member interest - if there's enough then we can make the subforum.
