His heart was heavy. The only friend he had made here on Earth. Now they would be battling against each other. He wasn't expecting this when he came here. Having to lock horns with the only person he called "friend." How was he supposed to go about this? What if either of them fatally injured the other? Was it possible for this fight to cripple their friendship? No, something like this couldn't possibly come between the two of them. Not with everything they had been through. Combo reluctantly trudged into the arena, concern on his face like a mask. He let his bag slip off of his shoulder and down his arm, plopping onto the ground. When it landed, a small wave of dust lifted off of the old, creaking floor. The fighter observed the old, ragged surroundings of the ominous clock tower. It looked like it had not been active for decades. The large gears and pendulums that make up the functionality of the clock tower were rusting and covered in blankets of dust and cobwebs. It's enough to make choke horribly if inhaled. He'd have to watch his attacks so he didn't crumble the floor or send these thick blankets of dust around. However, he was already imagining ways he could take advantage of this. He had to cut his observations short as he unfortunately picked up on the footsteps of his opponent entering the arena. |

((Just read her bio again if you're having trouble.)) Rael's hit was successful, it seemed, as she sent her opponent flying. He recovered quickly, though, too quickly. She had to gain some footing in this match and, hopefully, the upper hand. She had pretty much tossed out any inhibition about using weapons, simply because she was most frustrated with herself for not seizing the upper hand. In fights, she got frustrated with herself easily. And who better to take it out on than her opponent? Her gun already drawn and aimed, she only had to adjust a little bit to his new position to get ready to fire. He didn't seem immediately ready to attack her, so she guessed it was still her turn. Maybe Rael could threaten Combo enough by shooting at him to the point of him getting and staying at close range with her, where she figured she'd have the upper hand. Either that or maybe she could wound him, and force him to stop whizzing all over the place. Well those were her thoughts. It was time for action. She fired two shots at him, intending to either hit him in the arm or the midsection. She would dig the bullets out and use her own clothes as bandages if she needed to, but right now it was time to stop playing the merciful best friend. ((I could but it's not like you can fourth wall your character to see their opponent's bio. Combo's going off of what he recollected from their travels. He mostly remembers your guns and arrows. I guess. Idk.)) Rael seemed hesitant on firing her gun, which gave Combo the time he needed to shift his energy properly. Throwing both of his hands up, he produced his Contego Shield to reject the oncoming bullets. Seeing as she was shooting bullets at him, then there would be no more playing around. Using the large gears as thresholds, he began to make his move. Dropping his shield, he immediately rushed for the gears. Combo leapt off two of the dusty, antique mechanisms and crashed through the highest floor with a strong fist. Memorizing his opponent's last location, he was able to safely close the gap between them in almost no time with Celer in effect. The fighter paused, leapt in the air, and slammed his fist into the floor below him, effectively crashing through. In a downward drop, Combo launched a powerful strike down towards his opponent. Without Arma active, his regular combo effect for his punches was back in action. In this instance, he'd either crash into the next floor with his opponent, or miss. Even if he missed, he's taking out a large portion of the floor as well. |

((Might be beneficial, but you're right dude.)) Rael frowned as Combo's shield deflected all of her shots. Of course she couldn't expect it to be that easy. She dropped her arms as she watched her opponent ricochet off the walls like this was some sort of big pinball game. Couldn't he see how old this place was? He really shouldn't have been doing that, the whole place could give at any moment. Rael opened her mouth to give him a stern talking to, but he charged forward in no time flat, before she even had a chance to raise her gun back up again. Luckily he didn't immediately attack her, but instead flew into the air. "Wha--" Rael holstered her gun and looked up after him. Her eyes widened immediately. She had just enough time to summon her bow and aim it out in front of her and then jump backwards a little in hopes of getting out of the way. She still felt the force of his downward attack, but not nearly as much as she would have if she had just stayed right there and took it straight on. At just the right moment, she fired off a single arrow. During his attack, he probably would not be able to defend against this. Her aim was only a little off by having to fire quickly and jump backwards at the same time. When Rael was fully aware of her surroundings, she was met with a scene of dust and debris. She looked around for a moment to find her opponent and see if her arrow had stuck him. But she was immediately distracted by a shifting underfoot. The floor was giving way under her, and she barely had time to realize this, much less react. A slightly amusing look of fear came over her face, her arms shot above her head as she was dropped, and suddenly she was plummeting downward to the floor below. "AIEEE!" she shrieked, but was cut short when she hit the floor hard. She was knocked dizzy, and couldn't even tell if she had landed on her face or her feet. All she knew was a sharp pain shot up through her ankles and all up her spine. She had not been able to roll to distribute shock. Now she'd need a moment to recuperate. But maybe she didn't have a moment. She had no idea where Combo was in all that wreckage. She still needed to see if her arrow had hit him. Sometime during the fall, her bow had disappeared from her grasp. Rael stood up slowly and drew her gun again, rolling her ankles carefully in order to ease the pain and be ready to dash in any direction. Well, his fist didn't get the job done, but the collapsing floor did some damage. The same comical look went across his face as the floor underneath him began to crumble. At least the damage done to the floor was enough to bring his opposition with him. His opponent fell to the next floor, following by the debris of the above floor. But... Combo expected to drop to the next floor as well. Instead, a gear placed close to the ceiling felt the multiple shocks of Combo's fist. All the crumbling and shocks that the tower had been taking it's toll on the tower, but the large gear snapping from the force of the fighter's body slamming against it was the trigger. After hitting the gear, Combo fell and slammed against the near-bottom floor of the tower. This shock woke the pain from Combo's arrow hit earlier and he gripped his side with a grunt. However, that gear, and the gears adjacent to it, were beginning to fall. As it crashed into the floor below, it disintegrated the fragile wooden floor below it. The aged and rusted gear snapped at the bottom when it crashed into the concrete flooring underneath the tower. When this happened, it began falling forward and taking the ground with it. This shock also triggered more large gears to fall from the second floor and crash down at a faster pace. Half of the tower was collapsing. The weight from those gears was enough to flatten both Combo and Rael. Pulling himself together, Combo began to utilize Celer. But would he save himself and move on to the next match, or save him and his friend from the decaying structure? ((Aaaaaaand... Cliffhang, because it doesn't matter, lol.)) |

It was a good thing she got ready to move. But she was expecting to have to dodge Combo, not a shower of debris from the collapsing tower. That thought hit her harder than Combo ever could. The collapsing tower... They had to get out of there! "We have to get out of here," Rael said, although her monotonous voice was barely audible over the sounds of the tower collapsing in on itself. This was a stupid arena, who had even thought of this? Rael frowned and shook her head at the thought. In her mind, this was everyone's fault but her own. "This is your fault. You know. You just had to go bouncing off the walls like a mad man." Rael holstered her gun and looked up before side-stepping quickly to avoid a chunk of flooring from crashing down on her. Honestly, she didn't really know how to react in this situation. But as the situation got more dire, she began to feel her heart rate increase little by little. She was prone to panicking, followed by running. Now it seemed that that was the best thing to do in this situation. Rael began to look around frantically for a window. Going up was out of the question and going down didn't seem exactly safe to her. So she felt that they had to flee the building entirely. It was only a matter of time before the building came down completely--with Rael and Combo underneath it. Oops, she had stayed in one spot too long. A piece of debris came crashing down on her head. She felt like she should move, but a second too late. It clipped her, and she fell over. She literally heard birds chirping as she shook her head and tried to get her eyes uncrossed. "Owww. That smarts..." Rael rubbed her head and then covered it with her arms like they taught you to do in elementary school during a storm drill. She located Combo and called over to him. "We should leave!" |

"w.. uld.. ve!" The crumbling structure made Combo's friend nigh audible. No matter what she was saying, Combo had his eyes set for escape, and there was no way he was leaving his friend behind. They entered in at the top floor, so they must have to leave the same way. Combo noticed Rael get stunned by the falling debris. He flared Contego as he went rushing to his aid. Placing his hands in from of him, his Contego Shield materialized around the both of them, enough to block the falling debris. However, if continuous pressure kept dropping on them, the shield would be meaningless when the floor caved in on them. Lowering his arms, he quickly rolled out of the way to avoid another large chunk of corroded metal that took the floor with it. Knowing she was agile enough to make it to the top, above the destruction, Combo let her off after nimble jumps to the second floor. "If they ask, it wasn't me..." he let out with a nervous chuckle. Hopefully they don't fine him for the destruction. It's not like he had money to pay for the damages. This was no time for jokes, however, because they had to reach safety. |

Hey all, Ludi here! You know what time it is? That's right: Judgement Time! [JUDGING] Alright, while this fight didn't really get that far, it was a pretty decent chunk of one. Or at least a decent enough chunk for me to judge. Let's start with grammar, shall we? -GRAMMAR- This is pretty much the section I was dreading the most. But it was also the section that made the biggest difference for each of you. While you both did pretty well in this department there were some slip ups here and there. So here's what I'm going to do: For each slip up I found, you're losing 1/4th of a point. Seems nitpicky, but sometimes that's that it takes for a winner to be picked. [Rad] The biggest problem I found was you used some sort of punctuation that doesn't exactly exist. I asked a few people who are more in the know about this sort of stuff and they agreed that it's not a thing. It's a little thing I've dubbed the half-llipses for the sake of judging. An example of which is the following: I have never seen a two dotted ellipses before. Ever. And apparently neither has anyone else. A comma might have worked better here or just the full ellipses. So with that in mind, I docked you for each instance I found. 9 lost you about 2.25 points. You weren't doing too bad in this section until your last few posts. As a result of what I assume was you rushing to get those posts in you made a lot of mistakes. Most noticeably, this one: That right there was a bit of a mess. Something like "All the shocks the tower received had taken their toll" would have worked better. As an added note, you should have used "its" instead of "it's". The sentence "taking it is toll" doesn't make much sense now, does it. ŠP The rest were fairly small. A forgotten word here, a typoed one there and a gender slip-up in regards to your opponent. All in all, these little mistakes added up to give you a score of 6/10. [Cakes] You were much better in this regard with barely even a handful of mistakes to be found. Or at least as far as I'm aware. You made use of a few non-existant half-llipses too (In post #6, which I've docked you for), and I feel there was an necessary comma splice in the following sentence. I could be wrong about this, but it felt wrong to me. That aside, you still find yourself with a very respectable 9/10. -FAIR PLAY- I don't really have complaints for this section. You both dished out blows and got hit by as many. I didn't find either of your characters to be pulling moves that are impossible or outside of their scope of ability. Furthermore, Cakes actually went as far as to give her opponent advice about how her character works. Rad then proceeded not to use it since it wouldn't be fair for Combo to fourth-wall and suddenly remember something about Rael (though if he did, I wouldn't have thought less of him if it was presented right). This is the kind of sportsmanship I like to see. You've both earned yourselves a solid 10/10. Well done. -ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTATION- Another close section. You both made references to the condition the arena was in, but failed to mention or make use of the tools laying around. Given Combo's preferred fighting style I can let this one slide for him, but I figured Rael might have made use of something. Perhaps she would have if the match went on longer? Combo certainly made a lot more use of his surroundings than Rael did in this round. However I felt that she was on the defensive for the majority of this match so I can't be too harsh. I suppose one doesn't have much time to try and think of ways to make use of their surroundings when someone is charging them from all directions, huh? And I guess she did react enough to the tower as it began to collapse. All in all not bad. Rad: 10/10 Cakes: 8/10 -ENTERTAINMENT- Okay, this is where you both slipped up for me. I dunno about everyone else but this wasn't a particularly exciting match. The first half of the fight was basically Combo and Rael hesitantly firing warning shots at each other to see who would get serious first. As interesting as their past and the character dynamic between the two might be, it didn't make for an interesting fight. I get that they're old friends but I would have liked a little something more. Still, both Combo and Rael pulled out a flashy move or two and seeing their moves in action was interesting enough to keep me reading the majority of the way through. They both had a couple of lines that got a smile out of me too. Not that they really talked that much in the end. For this section you're both getting a 6/10. Above average, but nothing to go and tell a bard to write a song about. And with that we come to the final scores. -FINAL SCORES- Rad: 32/40 Cakes: 33/40 It was a close one, but I hereby judge KittyCakes to be the winner! Guess we'll see how the second judge feels. Sorry for the wait, I can't get on for all that long, certainly not long enough to get a well thought out judgement in, mind you. However, it has to be done so here's my judgement on the match: GRAMMAR: Not going to be particularly picky on this section, seeing as I'm in no position to judge. Rad (?): Okay, so you did fairly well, but you slipped up a few times here and there. Mostly just things with prepositions and sentence structure, but mistakes nonetheless. Since you didn't slip up on anything really major, and didn't really slip up too much at all I'll give you a 7/10. Kitty: You did amazingly well, actually. I'm not really seeing many mistakes at all, some minor things with punctuation here and there, but otherwise nothing. Not going to be a stickler here, since you did so well I'll give you a 10/10. Congrats. FAIR PLAY: I honestly don't have much to complain about here, the fight was very realistic, you both took blows and dished them out. In fact, I think you both kind of mentioned something about taking it easy on one another? Rael dished a blow out to Combo near the beginning and didn't put much power behind it, even though she could. If there was a way to give you both 11 out of 10, I would, but I can't, so a 10/10 for both of you will have to suffice. ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTION: You both mentioned that the arena was collapsing and the floor was deteriorating, that's enough for me. An 8/10 for both of you. ENTERTAINMENT: As Ludi said, this wasn't exactly the most exciting thing to read. Realistic, sure, but definitely not entertaining. But I suppose you had to sacrifice the entertainment factor to be accurate in representing your characters' relationship with each other. Eh, considering what you needed to do in order to be accurate, it'd be unfair to dock you too much here. I'll give you both a 7/10. That leaves Rad with a score of 32/40, and Kitty with a score of 35/40. You both did a great job, congratulations, and I apologize that my judging didn't go into too much detail, but I don't exactly have a ton of time to spare here.
