He went as fast as Sonic, did everything Sonic did and could fly. Now, Tails is perceived to be a wuss, and a coward. What happened to Tails being just a heroic and brave as Sonic? Heck, in Sonic Adventure, he is suprised that he beat Eggman without Sonic.

I think he was quite cool in the Genesis titles, now he is just a wussy.

In this way, they complement each others' weaknesses and highlight each others' strengths. Would Sonic appear as brave, witty and confident as he does if EVERYONE in the Sonic universe was exactly the same? I doubt it. But by having characters who are weak but determined (i.e. Tails), they make him look better in comparison, and vice versa when it comes to a situation where their strengths outshine his. But why am I bringing literary theory into a Sonic discussion? It's not like Sonic Team would ever put this much thought into what they bash out on the keyboards with their faces. guaranteedreplies.jpg are yuou haeving teh issues

Last few games I've played recently have shown Tails to be at least somewhat instrumental in Sonic's victories, even if it's just making a translator to talk to alien life in Colors or flying Sonic from continent to continent in Unleashed. And in that game, there were at least two moments where they were flying into a army of Eggman's robots. Now tell me, would a coward continue on like he did? I don't think so. And as well, I don't want Tails to be completely like Sonic. Part of the reason I like Tails is because he has a different character. I would not like him as much if he was just a Sonic that could fly. That's boring.

Tails isn't incompetent entirely, i.e. he's got useful, important, and rare skills. That there fox can build jet airplanes in his garage out of dirt--not to mention galaxy-crossing spaceships, if Sonic X is to be believed. He's only incompetent relative to what Sonic's good at, i.e. running about and kicking robots, like he had to in SA1. And he's not even really incompetent there, since the whole point of his arc in SA1 is that he grows into the hero's role and finds he fits it better than he might have thought. Really, it seems like all you're saying is that it's too bad that Tails isn't the fastest thing alive. Edited by Katsuko, Mar 4 2013, 03:30 PM.

I love his current character to be honest. Tails is supposed to be different than Sonic anyway. While I wouldn't mind him sharing one or two traits at the most with his best friend, other than that no. He's a different character, so as mentioned above if he was just a twin-tailed fox version of Sonic it'd be rather boring. Also Tails being afraid makes perfect sense; he's 8 years old. What 8 year old doesn't get scared at something?

From your encounter with Tails on out, he's more mature and independent ever since Sonic left or something. It would be really interesting if Tails made that change in the newer games. I don't mind him being cowardly, but I would prefer one of those "toughen up" moments like when he fought Eggman in SA2. We need to see more of those.
	"Hey look it's Sanerkkkk!" - Egoraptor Geezers, years and years and I finally got to play Sonic Adventure 2. It's great, the emerald hunt and mech battle modes really slow down the game though. :/ Maybe it's just me. Sonic fan, for years and years, and still am. Glad to see Sonic and Mario don't wanna rip each other limb from limb.
