Angel Island Act 2
|
A number of Sonic games are in their own subseries. These include the four best-known preliminary titles, Sonic 1 to Sonic & Knuckles; Adventure 1 & 2; Advance 1, 2, & 3; and Rush & Rush Adventure, among others. Generally, the subseries introduced something novel and repeated it. So keeping in mind the uniqueness of Sonic CD, I'd like to see it have a sequel - in spirit, if not in platform. Nowhere else in the entire Sonic series does one Act play four different ways, nor does changing one state of an Act fundamentally change another state. The player actually had a role in shaping his or her surroundings, as opposed to running directly through. Joint to time sequence, the music - at least, the music for some versions of the game - gave the times a sense of continuity. The Special Stages stood apart, though I can certainly relate to the point of view that only sometimes are they pleasant experiences. In a 'Sonic CD 2' I would want to see the following: - The same time structure, Past<->Present<->Bad/Good Future. - A more reliable method than scouring the stage for changing the future through the past. - Time periods that react more to the player. Subtle puzzle elements might be nice, but that's a fine line. - Exploration elements like in the first game but fine-tuned not to clash with the fast pace of Sonic games. - Removal of Rings that spin in walls because they're in the wrong time. By extension, possible temporal hazards for picking up a Ring you already picked up from a later time period. - A Special Stage that resembles the old one without being a game of tag with these flying...things. Maybe a maze? - Continuity of music for all versions, retaining the similarities between a Zone's different-time musics. - A lot more, but those are the major points. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, too. Should SCD2 be made? If so, what would you want to see in it? Should it not be made? If so, why not? |

Yep.

It would be neat, despite little planet being already revisited in sonic 4 episode 2. I want a little more speed though, if you're aiming to get the time stones and good futures, well you might as well forget about speed because the game wants you to explore a lot to find everything. |

I would love a sequel to CD, it was one of my favourite games in the series. I agree with most points you have made, but I think it could be interesting if it had the same engine as Colors/Generations (with 2D and 3D elements but mostly 2D). I would also like a lot more zones, and I would like Metal Sonic to be the joint-antagonist. Lastly, I want a form of Super Sonic that is optionable rather than a plot point like in later games. |

Luckily a fan out there is making something of a spiritual sequel called Time Twisted. I won't advertise so you can find it yourself. In my opinion though I don't want to see a CD sequel. To me it's one of the boring games in the series. It's also not as memorable with the change in certain aspects of the game compared to the previous titles before it. And there's nothing pleasant about this games special stages. I found Sonic 3's to be a piece of crumb cake compared to these Doom rip-offs or the other way around. |

It's kind of hard to revisit a planet that hovered into the air and exploded into tiny bits of stars of your own face... |

Unless we play around with time, and move back to a point when it was still okay. I really don't see why we couldn't at this point; Sonic CD played with time, Sonic '06 played with time, and Sonic Generations played with time. Then there's the Storybook saga, which messes with interdimensional stuff, and the Sonic Rush series which does as well. Still, I do see your point. It would be a bit silly. |
