Blue streak, Speeds by... SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!!! Posts: 5,101 Group: C Rank Legend Member #9,446 Joined: October 22, 2008	Alright, I'll get this started then! Two red and white shoes stepped onto the yellow metal of the Chemical plant zone. A green eyed hedgehog looked over the area, reminiscing his past. "It's been a while since I've been here!" He took a few steps forward and scoped out the thin strips of metal. He looked back to his two tailed friend, "How long do you think it's been, Tails?" His two tailed companion, "I can't say I remember, Sonic!" The yellow fox walked next to his friend, holding a machine in his hands. "It's been a really long time!" He looked down towards the purple toxic sludge, "It doesn't look like this place has gotten any better though." The fox sighed. Sonic chuckled, "That's alright. I didn't expect it to get any better anytime soon anyway." The hedgehog was quiet for a moment but soon looked to his friend, "Is everything set up down there, though?" The yellow fox jumped up and smiled, "Yup! I just have to set up this machine here before you start, and everything will be ready to go!" He pat the machine he was holding in his arms. "Sounds good! You go ahead and set that up, and I'll wait for tall, dark and gloomy." He chuckled at his own joke, pleased with his little shot at his rival. "Sure thing, Sonic!" Tails' tails began to spin and he was soon off down the winding chemical plant road. "I'll be back in a few minutes, Sonic!" He waved goodbye and was soon out of sight. Sonic smiled and looked back, "This is a rematch I've been waiting for!" He smirked and waited for his rival. Shadow.

"Hmph. You're late. But I suppose that was to be expected. . seeing as how we both know who here is faster." The dark, brooding figure Sonic expected was waiting just above him, on a twisting pipe. As soon as he saw his rival, he jumped down and landed in front of Sonic, barely even meeting eyes with the hedgehog. "So what's this about hedgehog? This rematch. Do I really need to prove to you what makes me superior to the likes of you?" with that Shadow turned away and glanced outward to the city beyond the mixing sea of violet-colored chemicals and bright lights that reflected off his dark quills. He chuckled half-heartedly "So let's get this over with. I've got better things to be doing than wasting my time and energy with you."

Sonic crossed his arms and looked at his rival, "Why don't you want to do this anyway? Afraid that I live up to my title? You know, fastest thing alive?" Sonic kicked his shoe against the yellow metal. "Besides, what's wrong with a little friendly competition every now and then?" Just then, the familiar voice of Tails filled the air, "Sonic! I'm finished!" Sonic glanced to Tails and then to his rival. "Well, looks like Tails is finished." Tails' tails spinning slowed to a stop as he dropped himself onto the metal behind both Sonic and Shadow. "Alright you guys, the machine's all set up! At the sound of this whistle, you both start running!" Sonic smirked, "I'm ready when you are shadow!" Sonic bent down and readied himself. "On your marks! Get set!" Sonic looked over to Shadow, who was also ready to start. "Good luck faker!" "Go!!" Tails blows on his whistle, signalling the start of the race. Sonic quickly bolts off ahead, feeling good about the race.

"Cocky as ever, blue hedgehog." Shadow said without moving from his place. "I find it rather surprising that you, a racing enthusiast would have forgotten to lay the ground rules for our race. After all, wasn't this your idea?" This stopped Sonic from running any further. "Since you failed to do so, I'll take the honors myself. Rule number one: No chaos control." He said, placing a cyan emerald on the yellow metal near where Tails had set up. "Rule number two:" He spindashed into Sonic, causing him to lose his rings "No rings. One of us wins, or none of us, and it won't be due to luck. I myself carried no rings here." He looked at a perplexed Sonic to see if he understood. He seemed only to grin in reply as if to say 'Now you're talking!' Then he got back into the starting position "Rule three, use nothing less than your full speed." Then he waited for Tails to give the count down.

After listening to the three rules shadow had in mind, Sonic smirked in agreement. He looked to his friend. Tails sighed and rubbed his face, "Alright then, let's try this again!" Tails held up the whistle, "On your marks!" Sonic and Shadow readied themselves "Get set..." Tails took in a deep breath. "GO!" He quickly blew the whistle. Sonic burst forward with all his might.

As soon as the countdown was given, Shadow skated after Sonic. The first obstacle was easy. There was a couple of Spiny badniks in front of him, which he simply spun into without hesitation. After that, the sections of pathways separated into two paths, shadow took the left path as sonic advanced right. As Shadow skated along, sparks flying, the paths looped around each other, and then one crossed over the other. The pathway Shadow was on was now underneath Sonic, so he could not tell what his rival was doing. He dashed past a row of spikes, and rolled down a steep incline that led to a ramp. Concentrating fiercely, he used the ramp to catch the higher route of the level. "It seems I have the high ground now. That blue hedgehog is probably going another route."

Posts: 5,101 Group: C Rank Legend Member #9,446 Joined: October 22, 2008	Sonic spun around some badniks and rolled into several, quickly looking back to make sure the animals inside were alright, he smirked and continued onwards. Their paths soon split and sonic took the low road, while shadow had the high road. There were twists and turns, Sonic rushed over them with ease. He hurdled over a small pit that would have surely slowed him down. He noticed how dangerously close to the toxic sludge he was getting and soon remembered how close he had come to drowning when he had come here with Tails all those years ago. "Guess I'll just have to jump over them all!" He tried to pick up his speed and noticed that his runway was about to end. With all his might he gave one last push and jumped as hard as he could.

Shadow skated his way through the dark corridor at the top, until he came to a wall of glowing blue containers. He felt that they weren't any opposition to him though, as they were made of glass, and smashed right through them, breaking into the light again. He was met with a steep drop of nearly 6 feet as he fell downwards to what he could only assume was the middle path of the level. When he regained his footing, he skated forward again, around a bend lined with a mesh fence that was surrounded by Grabber badniks. "I don't have time for you." He muttered as he slid into one that was on the ground, knocking it away and freeing an animal. But another from behind grabbed him "Wh-? Ghhh!" he grunted as he struggled to get free. He remembered he didn't have any rings and how if he got injured now, the race would be finished.

Posts: 5,101 Group: C Rank Legend Member #9,446 Joined: October 22, 2008	Sonic was falling towards the toxic sludge, even with his breakneck speed he couldn't clear the giant gap in one jump, fortunately, below him was one of the platforms he used so long ago. Although NOW it looked in worse shape then it did back then. "I'm gonna have to make this count!" He fell towards the platform, landing hard. He could hear the thin metal creak and snap. He pushed with all his might and jumped off with the momentum he had gained before his jump. As he rocketed off, the platform had fallen apart from rust and years of no use. Sonic landed on metal road in front of him and continued onward. He looked a head to see a familiar black hedgehog being held by one of the old grabbing badniks. "Well, that wouldn't be a very good race, now would it? Heads up shadow!" Sonic jumped and flew through the badnik before it could cause any damage to shadow. He stopped for a moment and looked back. "Now what kind of race would that be if I just let you lose like that?" He smirked. "Alright! I helped you out! So now i'm off! See you at the finish line Shadow!" Sonic waved and set out once more.

"Hmmph. If you think that I'm going to take it easy on you just because you saved me, you're wrong hedgehog." he said nudging past him. "And actually, I won't see you at the finish line, because you'll be the one watching me cross it." Shadow slammed into the next Grabber badnik, freeing another animal, and dodged a trail of rings by skating to the left, as well as a spike bomb by skating to the right. Lights around him streaked in a strobe-like manner as he maneuvered his way in between streetlights and hurdled onto a platform ahead of him riding it up, he looked behind him as he mock-saluted Sonic with a grin and disappeared from view behind the elevator shaft just ahead of Sonic "Looks like you'll have to wait for the next one, faker."

He looked ahead and smiled, 'This is the best feeling ever!' he dashed from side to side, dodging attacks from the spiny badniks and breaking them open in the process. "It feels just like old times!" He shouted to himself. Sonic looked back and chuckled, "I'm pretty sure I left shadow in the dust to! This race is in the bag!" He went through several cork-screws and loopy-loops. Speeding up as he went down a long hill, rolling while doing so.

"Don't let your sentimentality get the best of you. I want your all in this race" He glared with his crimson eyes. But I can't concur. I remember hardly anything about our race on the ARK." Then he slid under a closing door and got upside along Sonic again. "Hmm." He said, intrigued "Maybe this race WAS a good idea. We can re-live that race once more, and I will know the true outcome." Again there was a straightaway where the two hedgehogs would share the path, but this time, the path split into 4 sections. Shadow took the second one to the right this time, and it corkscrewed downward until it met with a tube which Shadow passed through. He ducked into a ball and sped through the ground until he met along the other side, where he hopped across moving block shapes that led upward a large corridor being filled with chemicals.

Sonic went onto the lowest path and was soon met with the same corridor. "Bad move on my part." He thought to himself. The corridor was already halfway filled with Chemicals and he could see shadow farther above him. Sonic sighed, already under the disgusting sludge. He jumped from block to block, desperately trying to catch up with shadow who was still plenty ahead of him.

Shadow heard footsteps below him. "Sounds like that blue hedgehog's caught up with me. . " As he continued to make his way up the corridor, he had to stop to wait for a block to reach the other side, and he watched as Sonic floundered below. The corridor was being overtaken by chemicals, and Sonic with it. Shadow sighed and jumped down from his block, pulling Sonic out of the chemicals, and put Sonic's foot under his palms, where he launched Sonic to the next block above him. Then he pulled out his chaos spears and launched them into the wall to make some stairsteps for himself to walk up. There, he took off his inhibitor rings as he jumped onto the next block and upwards to the top. "Get ready Sonic. We're almost to the end of the Zone." He took a few breathes of air and reached the top block. "Then from here on, it's all or nothing!" He smirked and looked at his rival, "Whoever wins, it was a good race while it lasted!" Sonic took a step back and burst forward with all his might, intending to finish the race as fast as he could run! There was another lake of toxic sludge, along with another platform, but this one was much smaller than the one before it, so he was able to clear it with ease. There were two floating platforms ahead, he jumped from wall to wall and quickly made it to the top, continuing on his way.
