It's Shady, baby.
Okay has anyone here been mocked or mis-treated becuase you might be in the LGBT comunity or the color of your skin or what you believe in or because of your gender. And if you have been how did you deal with it? And what would you say in general to everyone about the issue?

Back when I was younger, I was always considered that 'Freak' in school, no one knew anything about me, no one talked to me, nothing. They all thought I was a serial killer or something.

I would always go stand up against a wall at recess because of this, no one ever talked to me about anything really. It wasn't till 6th grade did I actually meet my first friend, and who is still my best friend to this day. He was the only one in the entire school who knew how to read lips, and from there on out, my life had been better than anything I would ever expect.
You know there was something really heartening about this story, I am so glad you made a friend and you are both still friends to this day. That is wonderful.

The really sad thing is I think most of us have experienced some form of discrimination at some point in our lives. I never really fitted in much when I was at school, but I was find with that and didn't really care.

Now I am in a, so called, 'professional' working environment and when I got my hair cut really short (and I mean REALLY short) all the guys started saying that I was a lesbian (I'm not) and it made all the women stop talking to me because they thought I was gay... Wow. They eventually found out I wasn't though but loads of folk in there still don't talk to me because of it. Add on to that, my old team leader used to segregate me from the team because I was not a blonde haired super model and wasn't fawning all over him like some of the other ladies in the team were (they were only doing it for their own gain because he really isn't all that attractive).

I sometimes feel going from high school to university, university felt a lot less "cliquey" and yet now I am in a work place I feel I've taken a step back in time and regressed to high school once again.

I have experienced a form of discrimination and prejudice purely on the way that I typically dress, which is what I guess most people would call Goth.

It does not bother me personally because anyone who has to single someone out for a difference no matter how small must be seriously insecure about themselves or just such an unpleasant person that THEIR opinions just don't mean much to me. Yeah, I get the odd tough guy drive by in a car and yell out something about the way I guess and drive off, but that just doesn't bother me for the a fore-mentioned reason.

To me there is no point in discriminating and no solid scientific basis for it. If you're in the position where you're looking to make someone else feel uncomfortable for being different, then you're living in the past and really need to grow up because that attitude will not likely get you very far in life.

That being said, I can see how to almost anyone else that being discriminated against and targeted so viciously for someone you have little to no control over can be very depressing and stressful.

LSN, are you serious people still discriminate because of the clothes (or subculture) those clothes may or may not belong to? That's really sad. Especially if guys drive by and yell things at you. Cowardly sods! >:(

It can be tough to let words slip by and not be hurt by them, I remember reading a phrase somewhere that was something like "you remember a compliment for that moment but an insult lasts" and it's true to a degree with people, you always remember when someone makes a slight against you but take for granted when people do something nice.

I think you're totally right though LSN - people who discriminate or bully others are either very self conscious or not worth the concern really.

I like goth chicks just saying, not sure if you are a chick or not but even if I really like that style of clothing. Oddly enough I never really got discriminated against the clothes I wore, I've always dressed like a dude and no one really said much of anything about it. (Except for they would ask me from time to time if I was a boy or a girl, talk about morons. I guess I pulled the guy look off pretty well though. :P)

Ahahaha, it's a mystery :)

But anyways...I thought the New Rocks I wear all the time would be a pretty good indicator that annoying me is not a good idea. I kick very hard normally and with these bad boys...;)
