Okay has anyone here been mocked or mis-treated becuase you might be in the LGBT comunity or the color of your skin or what you believe in or because of your gender. And if you have been how did you deal with it? And what would you say in general to everyone about the issue? |

Maltesers are wonderful UK candy though.. Anyways on topic I was never really..discriminated against I guess. I got bullied, a lot for being too smart and then I tried to fail my classes and they just called me stupid. They also made fun of me for other things..it was stupid. I hated it. |

In that case, like you said, you are who you are. As long as you love who you are and work at your own pace to make yourself happy in life, then that is all that matters. |

Sandopolis Act 1

... Eh. You can "be who you are and love it," but people aren't obliged to like you. It's sort of egotistical to ignore the way "who you are" affects other people. If "who you are" is someone who refuses to shower, people are well within their rights to ostracize and dislike you because you smell like sweaty socks. They have to put up with that smell. And anyway, "who you are" isn't very healthy. And people need to stop conflating "the man beats me within an inch of my life because I looked him in the eye and I'm a minority" discrimination with "he calls me mean names because he doesn't like me" discrimination. One is a serious problem that requires social redress, and the other is just a normal (and healthy) part of being human. Edited by Katsuko, Mar 2 2013, 09:51 AM.

Sandopolis Act 1

Hmm, when I was younger I got bullied because I was weak and did a bunch of computer stuff. Now, I am no longer bullied, as many of my friends are either academic or at least gamers. All the people in my class say I'm a 'pretty cool guy,' but... Everybody in my class is pretty friendly with everybody else, me included. This is the honors/advanced placement class. But when I think of it, when I was younger, I was in mixed classes, and that was when I was bullied. So while my town seems to have become less bullying-oriented, I think it's just because the people who previously pushed me around are simply not there anymore. My advice for those who are being bullied: Show them up. In something. If you don't get good grades, get a hobby. Learn it, do well in it. These bullies give you a reason to live: to defeat them. You should have other reasons to live, but these people can motivate you. But then, racial and sexual bullying is often different... |

I've been called an "idiot american". No joke neither. I won't say why because I really can't remember but I was told this by an Indian man. What a cowboy. |

I haven't personally been discriminated against as an American, although I have had to deal with a few very anti-American people. Fortunately it was on a site I moderate, so there was some banning involved and then the problem was solved. ![]() I have been discriminated against because I'm blond, though. And seriously... yeah the jokes are funny if you aren't actually trying to hurt someone's feelings, but anyone who ACTUALLY thinks that hair color is a valid way to judge a person's intelligence needs to get a life. And possibly some professional help. I've also dealt with "misplaced age discrimination"... because I look about five years younger than I really am, so people assume I can't do things that I am actually very good at, or shouldn't have a say in things that I have every right to. Or they assume I've dropped out of high school... gah. Some of what I've dealt with would be offensive even if I was as young as the people in question thought I was. |

Back when I was younger, I was always considered that 'Freak' in school, no one knew anything about me, no one talked to me, nothing. They all thought I was a serial killer or something. I would always go stand up against a wall at recess because of this, no one ever talked to me about anything really. It wasn't till 6th grade did I actually meet my first friend, and who is still my best friend to this day. He was the only one in the entire school who knew how to read lips, and from there on out, my life had been better than anything I would ever expect. |

Hmmm... When I was in elementy school I didn't have too many friends because I didn't do sports, and in Junior High I was called a nerd, dork, weirdo, and even alien. But I embraced those titles and considered them compliments. Rolled with the flow and overcame. Because weirdo's RULE yo. As to the thread's origional topic. I find this interesting because I've actually been called a hater and even told I should be shot because I do not support gay marraige. I don't hate gay people, many I've met are considerate of my beleifs and make good friends, I just disagree with what they do. I don't think they should be bullied or hurt, but because I don't condone their actions somehow that makes me evil? |

I did once during high school, I would always carry all my books in my book bag because I didn't want to be late for my classes, and I knew I would have been if I had to go to my locker all the time. There was one kid who called me the hunchback of Notre dame because the way I would walk with the book bag on my back. He also happened to be one of my friend's brothers too... >.> It also turns out I saw him a few years later and he hit on my gf, he must have forgotten who I was though.

Bah- at least 50% of the kids at my school (myself included) walked around hunched over with all our books on our backs. The guy should have come to my school. Of course there was that one time I tried taking the external frame from a hiking backpack and attaching my school bag to it to make things easier. Folks were mostly too weirded out to tease... Wish I had an external frame now...these college textbooks are HUGE!! |

Well... I got made fun of a bit in Primary School for being nerdy but I had to geek-tastic friends so I didn't really care. Someone also called me handicapped once... I have no idea why and simply responded to them with a logical point about how I am clearly no handicapped and how that was offensive to handicapped people. Shut her up. The worst time though was when I staying down in my Nanny's for the summer when I was 10. I'm from Northern Ireland and she lives in the Republic of Ireland so I got teased for my accent. They also called me 'big boobs.' Which was kinda stupid as I was older than all of them. They were just stupid. But I know it's nothing compared to what other people suffer. Racism, homophobia... the world sure is dumb. |

Indeed the world is dumb, thankfully I have never been discriminated by being a lesbian. Everyone I know either does have a problem with it but won't tell it to my face or they are open-minded people that feel everyone should be loved regardless of sexual orientation. At least the one's who are against it won't say anything, and I hope I never have to go through that ever. |
