When you watch Japan's spotlight media, what do you prefer: hearing the more-than-understandable English voices or reading the anime while hearing the originals? I just have to go with Dubs. While this may be a biased opinion of simply wanting to understand what the characters say in English, for some reason most anime character's English voices fit them way more than the Japanese. I'm serious. Besides, if I want to read, I would read a book or a profound fanfiction. If I would want to read the words of anime, I'd go for a novel adaption or whatever. =SB='s possibly largest anime debate begins here!

Not the ultimate debate anyway. :V I would say dubbed, unless the English voice acting is completely unbearable. Otherwise, I'm just 'reading' anime, though I do want to learn Japanese someday.

Something with plenty of action I can't enjoy as subs because I'm too much focused on reading the words rather then watching what is happening on screen. Something more slower paced like a comedy or romance Anime I could easily watch as subs as there is plenty more time to take in all that is happening.

I've found that it is much harder to pay attention to what happens on the screen when you have to read the words, and sometimes they go away too fast so you miss half of what they say and you have to rewind or pause it and UGH it's just terrible! But sometimes the English voice are really bad. But other times, they are actually quite fitting, even better than the Japanese ones. (With Panty and Stocking, it was a toss-up. Both the English and Japanese voices were really good and fit really well. That's just an example. I can probably think of more, given time.)

I know it sounds weird, but I love to immerse myself in the Japanese language 'cause it's so elegant. A lot of the dubs I've come across for my favourite anime are poor, and even if the voice acting in a Japanese dub wasn't up to scratch, I personally wouldn't be able to tell. xP Although it can be said that looking at the subtitles does take your attention away from the action, sometimes. ^^;

I'm used to reading subtitles because I'm not a native English speaker. Every English/American TV show or movie here has subs. Mostly due to subs I learned a lot about the language and am I able to speak properly now. I learned a lot of Japanese words through subs, plus Japanese is an interesting language and it's beautiful to listen to. Also, hearing it in the original language is just much more satisfying. Most seiyuus (Japanese voice actors) are really talented. Dutch dubs are horrible, and most dubs I heard in English aren't too good. If I were to watch an English dub, I'd want subs with it. xD

I watched every single Digimon season as a dub until Xros Wars, because the voices seemed to fit better. However, the Xros Wars voices seem to fit perfectly in the sub. The action part is also true; I enjoy watching animes with a lot of action, such as SAO, Kaze no Stigma, Soul Eater, and InuYasha. I like watching the first one as a sub and the last three as dubs. It may help that the first one doesn't have a dub, but I love the voices and the emotion behind the acting. Still...the last three voices seem to fit perfectly for all of the characters. So...yeah! I basically listen to the voices that seem to fit the character. = ]

However, although there isn't a dub yet for either as far as I know, I absolutely love SAO and The World God Only Knows in subbed form. The voice acting is great, and the voices are all very suitable. An example that I could literally go either way with is probably Spice & Wolf. Both sets of voices work pretty well. Ultimately, this slightly sways me to the dubbed version, because I get the same sort of quality without having to read subtitles, but I really do like the sound of both.

There are a few shows that have had very good (sometimes even preferable) English dubs such as Soul Eater, but by and large I vastly prefer to hear the Japanese audio.

Also I prefer to hear the sounds of the native language, even if it is not my own. Hearing the language helps me immerse myself in new cultures, which is something I love doing. However, I don't particularly mind dubs if they are done well. If they are over-the-top (i..e Beyblade), then I am sticking to the subs. Usually that factor depends on the anime I'm watching at the moment.
