I was thinking of a topic that I could create and this seems like a good idea since there is a lot of options and this hasn't been made for a while at least. So what is everyone's Best/Worst handheld Sonic game? The best for me is probably Sonic Rush. I thought it was very fun, fast paced and had a very good range of levels/bosses, I certainly enjoyed it. The Sonic Advance series was also good but I enjoyed Rush more. I didn't like Rush Adventure though. The worst is either Sonic Labyrinth for Sega Game Gear or Sonic Genesis for GBA. I thought Sonic Labyrinth was absolutely aweful, so slow, boring, dull and everything is just bad. I hate isometric views as a whole anyway (I didn't mind 3D Blast though). Sonic Genesis was just terrible, I don't have a clue how Sega managed to mess up on a port but they did, it was just a horrid port of Sonic 1.

As mentioned in another thread, i love Rush Adventure, having fast speed, great boss battles, tons of things to do. And did i mention the music's just funky and awesome? The worst is..Sonic Labyrinth. I agree with everything Retro said about it, it just doesn't fit as a Sonic game, especially with the fact they even tried to sell the fact that Sonic's slow. Sonic Blast counts too. The last two zones are a major pain in the ass, being mazes and all. |

The best handheld Sonic game is probably Sonic Battle. xD The music is lovely, the story is perhaps the strongest in any Sonic game ever released, the graphics are pretty good, and it's very fun to play, even if the approach to gameplay is very different from your typical Sonic game. The worst handheld Sonic game, that I've played, is probably Sonic Labyrinth. In itself, I find it enjoyable, but I just have trouble respecting it as a "Sonic" game. |

Care to elaborate on the part in bold for me? I'm curious as to how you came to this conclusion. For me I'd say the Best handheld title is either Sonic Advance 2/3, or the Sonic Rush titles. I think Advance 2 is the one I return to the most often if only for Hot Crater. I freakin' love that stage. Would have been sweet to see it make a return in Generations 3DS, but alas it did not. Worst is probably the Sonic Rivals games. I dunno, feels like they should have been a lot more but kinda fell flat. Though I suppose since it's been mentioned here, yes, Sonic Labyrinth wasn't very fun at all. |

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
|
Best: Sonic Rush. Has a sort of shine to it, and I just love the levels and music to it. The Rush series altogether though is the best handheld Sonic series in my opinion (Yes better than the Advances.) Worst: Sonic Spinball for the Game Gear. Actually, I consider it to be the worst Sonic title ever

I like Sonic Rush too. But Rush Adventure more. I spend most of my time playing those on boring vacations with my mom and her best friend. I like how the gameplay and story work together. The music is also good. Though I have no 'worst' handheld Sonic game because I never bothered to play those really. xP |

Lol, how coincidental, playing a game about Sonic being on a tropical island and exploring the sea on vacation.

Good vibes.

For me... My favorite is probably Sonic Advance 1. I grew up with it, and it sorta is the true Sonic 4. As for least favorite... Hmm... Well, the Sonic Jam port for the Game.Com wasn't very good. That's my least favorite, I think/ |

Why is it the worst? Because it involved so little platforming and gave you so little to do, and was basically the "hold right to win" games that I just can't find enjoyable. |

Eh, I'd hardly call it 'hold right to win'. Stages can take a lot of skill to pull off accurately, especially when trying to get Special Stages. You've gotta know what path to take, what tricks to use and when to use them. The name of the game was speed, so naturally it was less about platforming and more about getting through a level with the least amount of trip-ups as you could. All in all, it was a fairly tight and fun experience for my money, and is probably the stand out title of the Advance series. Also, that Extra Zone. So much win~ But I suppose that's your opinion, and I can respect that it doesn't quite match up with what you think a Sonic game should be. Though admittedly, Sonic has never been super platform-y. I zip around in S3&K enough without doing much platforming most of the time, it seems. |

Ah, I used to hate trying to get special stages on Sonic Advance 2, I don't know about you but I thought it was tedious, but I suppose you're right and it does take skill. I personally found Sonic Advance 1 as the best Advance game, I enjoyed it most and it had the best levels imo but all of them are good.

Nah, you're right. It was a major pain in the butt to actually locate where all the Special Rings were, then trying to map out the path that'll take you by all seven. Arrgh. That said, Chao Hunting in Advance 3 wasn't much better. Once you had them all getting to Special Stages was a cinch, though. Sonic Advance was okay-ish in that regard, but still had some really shifty placement sometimes. Neo Green Hill Zone's Special Spring was in one of the most annoying areas to get to as Sonic. ... really, come to think of it, Advance was the most annoying series for getting to Special Stages. :I |
