Ankle-deep water. Night sky. Ruined coliseum, with several trees covering the stands where people once cheered from long ago. Forest surrounding the arena. Obviously, it seems it hasn't been in use for so many years, by just looking around. The full moon shined brightly high above the arena, reflecting off the water, as Fenroar Strauss walked into the ring, where one of the assistants led him to the arena before leaving him. Unaware to Fenroar, there's actually a sublevel of water beneath the area, being much deeper if the ground above were to shatter. Only one way to find out though. Well, this is a dandy place, Fenroar thought to himself, slightly annoyed by the choice of arena. A place like this will obviously have no sources of electricity around, so Fenroar can't afford to go crazy for this match. Might have to rely on his batteries. However, the water on the ground could be great help, unless the opponent flies, as it gives him an idea. He walked into the arena, with his ankles soaked. Hopefully they'll be able to introduce themselves before things get started. He then notices a shadow in the distance, where Fenroar stands. He's not nervous, being kinda eager, yet also knows to not underestimate anybody in this tournament, seeing all kinds of personalities in the lobby. |

"Yooooooou're LATE." As Claru entered the preparation area, he was berated immediately by a girl almost a head shorter than him. In a beige worker's jacket and oil-stained overalls over the top, one could take one look at her and say "Yep, she's definitely a mechanic." If one took two looks, one might also say "Are those robotic cat ears on her head?" Yes, this was Claru's cousin (twice-removed) and personal armourer, Catina Sable. And she wasn't happy. "Sorry, cous, but I got here as fast as I could-" "The match is literally about to start and your arm is zero point zero seven seconds out of synch! I don't have time to correct that, thanks to you wasting time in the lobby!" "Well... various things happened," Claru explained, trying to avoid the subject. "Uh-huh. Pretty girls in pretty outfits are quite 'various' after all, eh?" "Haha, ye- H-how do you know about that?!" "Your mask has a comlink in it, doofus," Catina responded with a sigh, "Honestly, Claru, this is why you don't- Ah, anyway, that's beside the point. HERMES. On. Go." Claru quickly donned his armour, designed to boost speed and maneuverability rather than defence. As he did so, his cousin tossed him a mask identical to the one he wore. "This is...?" he asked, staring at the mask as he fastened the final piece of the HERMES together. "An improvement," came the answer, "It's sturdier than your old reinforced ceramic one; won't shatter if you smack your face into something - or someone. Comes with a few little extras as well; give 'em a try when you have the chance. And here," Catina finished, handing him a large sword-like machine, "The main event." Claru took the heavy metal monstrosity and rested it on his shoulder as the HERMES, now online, lifted him several centimetres off the floor, making him seem even taller than his cousin. "Remember to fix my arm when I get back," he said, giving her a quick salute. "Bring it back in one piece and I'll consider it." With that, Claru glided out into the dilapidated arena, the water beneath his feet rippling fiercely as the HERMES' engines passed over it. He spotted his opponent on the other side of the arena; by the shape of the silhouette, it surprisingly seemed to be one of the few humans who had entered the tournament. Claru raised his left arm in greeting, the white bandages catching the light of his plasma exhausts in the dark. "Heyyyyy," he called out, "You wanna get started from here, or shall we do the whole 'stand back-to-back, take ten paces and draw' thing?" |

Great, he does fly! Fenroar reacts, waving back at him. He can't see his face though in the dark, but he sees a shadowy figure with some special set of equipment attached. He guessed some of the rather loud voices earlier belonged to him and somebody else earlier. Fenroar remembers the voice from somewhere however. Likely from someone in the lobby, but can't quite a place a finger who Claru was. It was pretty chaotic though, so it's easy to lose track. I wish it was brighter in here, Fenroar thought, as he pretends to not be on guard yet. Course I could fix that. He hears Claru's offer though, definitely sounding familiar. Fenroar began charging up some lightning, as he is actually half-tempted to accept his latter option. "Well, normally I would say my name anyway but I guess we could cut straight to the chase, seeing it was on the!-lightning." While speaking casually, Fenroar suddenly quickly points his arm at the shadowy Claru, sending an incredibly quick blue bolt of electricity straight at him. He's not sure what the device he's wearing is, but if his assumptions are correct, the metal could also work as a disadvantage. The lightning bolt he sent though is fast like most electric attacks, so if he hesitates or notices too late it will likely hit, but it isn't that painful, hardly being charged up or consuming much electricity. It should give him a strong shock though, maybe a brief paralysis. Fenroar just wants to see what he does to possibly counter, and is already preparing to dodge if he does most likely do something. |

CRACK! He'd had no chance to react; lightning, like lasers, moved almost instantaneously. Fortunately, the HERMES was not so poorly insulated that the electrical attack could cause damage to its internal systems. Unfortunately, it didn't protect Claru at all. The bolt of lightning slammed into his hip like a sledgehammer, the electricity conducting through the HERMES and into every inch of his body. Sparks exploded in his vision, and he was certain that he'd lost feeling in his extremities. He wobbled unsteadily as he struggled to regain some control over his body. "S-son of a..." He'd grossly underestimated this opponent. Electrical manipulation was highly versatile and potentially lethal with the barest of effort. His only chance was to start moving, and fast. "Alright then," he spat, a determined grin appearing on his face, "Now I'm awake." The thrusters on his back and legs flared to life, propelling him forward and left. The HERMES would allow him to cancel out his momentum for dangerously fast zig-zagging; without the armour's reinforcement, such rapid changes of direction would surely snap his neck and spine like a twig. I just have to make it too difficult for him to lock onto me until I'm close enough to use the sword, he decided, heaving the sword-like machine off his shoulder. The squarish 'tip' of the weapon skimmed along the surface of the water, sending a huge spray up in his wake. "The Knight of Tigers arrives!" he roared as he closed the distance between him and his opponent. |

The lightning briefly lit up the arena, before actually hitting him. It was only so brief, but Fenroar's eyes widened upon seeing him for just a short second. His attack hit, and Fenroar realized Claru Dante was the person who threatened to use the table as a weapon to split up his bickering with the metal ball or nanobot or whatever in the lobby earlier. Fenroar knew it had to be him, seeing his tiger-striped mask on his face. "Huh? You're the person who used that table as a weapon!" However, it seems he was already preparing his counter attack, as he saw his jet pack or whatever flare to life, as well as an object in his hand. A larger sword. Fenroar then saw Claru shoot forward, and he's sort of impressed with his speed. However, Fenroar was suddenly amusingly flung into the air, flipping as he is fired straight into the tree-covered stands. He's fast. This will be fun. That sword is different from mine, Fenroar reacts, still in the air, as his hand the grips onto his own sword's hilt. He began charging up electricity once more, while looking at the area Claru was charging him at. I need to get him wet. A rather large wave of water is then launched at Claru, being slightly wide and a bit high. Maybe Fenroar could confuse him, making him think he controls water or something, but in actuality, he's just using his air powers to send a decently-sized wave in the air. Fenroar falls to the stands below, launching himself a bit farther then anticipated while spinning several times amusingly in the air, where he notices a sea of trees below him. He's glad it's dark though, as Claru's equipment moves him pretty fast. Which Fenroar can too, but he can't fly unlike him. |

Mixing water and electrical hazards: this guy was like a walking advertisement campaign for rubber boots. Claru shuddered to think what would have become of him had he not possessed such a convenient suit of armour, keeping him out of the water as it was. Still, the wave that approached him wasn't something he could just glide over without getting drenched, and the angle of approach was too sharp to engage the HERMES' jump jets in time. His only choices were to let himself get wet (inviting all kinds of conductive pain in the process) or to make a wild gamble. As always, he chose the wild gamble. He gripped his sword tighter, activating the pressure sensors in the hilt. From around the edge of the 'blade', a burning yellow light shone forth - not unlike the light that poured out of the HERMES' exhausts - and a similarly-coloured translucent field flickered to life around it. When Claru lost his power to call upon the weapons of ancient legends, his cousin had built this weapon for him; an alchemechanical plasma sword custom-built to complement his particular approach to combat. Heavy, but with jet propulsion to allow for blindingly fast strikes. Sheathed in a heat field that could both sear and cleave through most forms of matter. His signature extra-long hilt for maximum ease of handling. It's name, a tribute to the sword once known as 'Flame of the Worthy'. It's name was...! "DYRNWYN!" Throwing himself into a 360 degree spin as he accelerated towards the oncoming wave, he swung the sword at the water. The plasma field covering the blade increased in intensity as he attacked, glowing brighter and burning hot enough to turn the algae-filled water to steam on contact alone. From a distance, it would have appeared as though the Knight of Tigers had disappeared beneath a cloud of steam just as he struck the wave with Dyrnwyn. In the cold night air, however, this kind of cover would not last long. |

Yep, it's definitely him, Fenroar thought, as he saw another bright light from where he was around, definitely recognizing him as the table-wielding man. "DYRNWIN!!!" he then hears Claru scream, slightly startling Fenroar as he slips off the tree branch he just landed on. Of course, he quietly uses his hands to catch himself before using his wind powers to flip him safely and quietly back on his feet, leaning against a tree as he eyed to where Claru's location was. He sees a cloud of steam where Claru struck the wave, where the lights from his gear make him an easy sight in the darkness. Gah, did he turn that wave into steam? Fenroar reacts, as he charges up more of his electricity. His equipment and that sword of his, Dyrwon or something, seems rather unique. Doesn't seem wise to engage him close-quarters right now. He's human like me, but I sure hope he isn't nocturnal. Fenroar smiled as he quietly made his way through the trees in the stand surrounding the arena, shrouded in darkness, while Claru's equipment, although special, continues to give off light. |

This is bad; I've lost sight of him. Between the low visibility and the time Claru spent cancelling out the oncoming wave, he had at some point lost track of where his opponent had leaped away to. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but considering there was no way to detect the enemy's ranged attacks in time to evade them, he had to rely purely on luck and poor marksmanship, the latter of which was probably a bit much to hope for. The matter was further complicated by the fact that Claru was a highly visible target in the dark, whereas Fenroar was not. Strategically, he was at a disadvantage; the next shot could come from anywhere without warning, and it would almost certainly be the last hit he could take. And it wasn't as though he had any ranged weaponry of his own to drive the enemy out of hiding either. That said, Claru never put much stock in strategy to begin with. He put his trust in two things on the battlefield; fighting instincts and the application of brute force. The target is no longer in the water, he concluded, leaning forward to recommence his charge, So he must be around the edge of the arena amongst the trees. And if I can't see him because the trees are in the way, there's only one thing to do. Destroy the trees! ... I hope the judges aren't steadfast environmentalists... Dyrnwyn's plasma exhausts flared up once more with a thunderous sound as both sword and wielder tore through the air. Heedless of where his opponent was, the knight smashed his weapon into the nearest tree, reducing it to charcoal and splinters with a single blow. "You're gonna run out of forest to hide in sooner or later!" he called out, "Even if I have to tear the entire arena apart, brick by brick, you can't escape me!" |

"Game over," Fenroar echoed from the wooded area to his right, as a massive blast of lightning is then fired immediately after Claru made his rather loud shout. This one is bigger and more stronger then the last one, being just as fast, as Fenroar lies several feet behind Claru. If it hits, it will be painful, and he might be paralyzed longer. Fenroar's not sure how his metal equipment would react to it, but the metal would only help his case. However, the more powerful electricity would also drain more. Normal, barely charged attacks drain up about five percent. Charged attacks similar to the one Fenroar fired will take up fifteen percent of his electricity. Anything more powerful will consume more, depending on how much Fenroar charges. So right now, he's down to eighty. Even if Claru decides to recklessly destroy all trees, it's not going to be all that better for him. It's still dark, and although the moonlight may reflect off the hilt off Fenroar's sword as well as the armor on his forearms if he's out in the open, it's not going to be instantly obvious to find him in the dark. Meanwhile, Claru's equipment so far gives off very obvious signals and lights, making him instantly noticeable in this place. Not to mention he's been shouting what he's planning to do nearly every time. Go ahead and tear the forest down! Fenroar thought loudly to himself, as he took his sword out of the case on his back. A longsword, being nearly as tall as Fenroar, having a dark red, crimson blade with black outlining the sides. The metal, silver part of the rapier-like hilt may shine in the moonlight, but Fenroar is under a tree, a decent distance away from Claru, so the moon isn't too close. Of course, Fenroar always plans one step ahead, ready to move if he makes a surprise counter. You're just leaving yourself more vulnerable. Not to mention you're helping clear a path for me in this woods area by tearing down the trees next to me. |

The lightning struck Claru squarely in the back, electricity flooding his nervous system in an instant. His heart clenched painfully and he blacked out for a second as his brain was temporarily deprived of oxygen. Through a haze of both pain and numbness, he heard a small automated voice echo inside his mask. "Warning: Vital signs have reached critical levels. Heart and breath rate erratic. Blood pressure rising. Nerve endings in lower body and right arm damaged." A biometric evaluation system? Must be one of the 'extras' Catina mentioned, he thought, Is this supposed to stop me from pushing myself too far? The calm, detached tone of voice the evaluator used to report his poor condition, however, was thoroughly annoying. And besides, he might not be fighting for his life, but his pride couldn't bear to disappoint the people who had put so much faith in his success. His grip on Dyrnwyn tightened, despite the violent spasms that spread through the rest of his body. The enemy had dared to attack him from behind, and threw taunts at him from the shadows. There was no way Claru was going to let this slide. He flicked a switch on Dyrnwyn's hilt and the plasma exhausts tilted backwards with a mechanical whirr. Gripping the sword with both hands like a lance, he turned to face the direction the attack had come from. "Rocket..." The sword edge spat forth plasma at a hitherto unseen rate, the force pulling Claru forward at a blinding speed that even the HERMES couldn't match. "Lightning!" |

((Just to clarify, italics = his thoughts. Was not saying them out loud. Just minor detail. XD)) "Whoa!" Fenroar yelped, as he saw Claru suddenly burst in his direction, wielding his sword like a lance now. Fenroar wasn't sure what to do, but his first reaction was to just jump out of the way, not having much time to think or maybe zap him in his mad dash. He used his air powers to once again flip him wildly into the air, but forgot he under some trees. His foot hit a branch as he flipped in the air, toppling off his speed and spinning even more as he crashes back into the water, with a loud splash. Ow ow ow. Water wasn't very deep of course, but surprisingly, it didn't feel all that sturdy. Fenroar slowly rose up in the water, his eyes focusing to where he barely dodged Claru's fast attack earlier. He's too unpredictable. He would've gotten me if I ended up any closer. Long distance seems to have been working so far, I just need to fully understand how his equipment works before even daring to engage him close-quarters. |

(Yup, figured that was the case. The 'taunts' I was referring to was the "Game over" remark.) Narrowly missing Fenroar, Claru hurriedly applied the HERMES' retro-thrusters and toggled the 'Rocket Lightning' switch on Dyrnwyn. The sword ceased to shine with energy and vented steam with a loud hiss. His charge was cancelled, but it was too little too late; momentum carried the sword into another tree, splitting it vertically down the middle and sending both halves crashing into adjacent trees. I may have missed, but at least I know where my enemy is now. He turned to face where his opponent had crashed back into the water and spun Dyrnwyn in his hands once to reset his stance, the sword edge now facing Fenroar directly for the first time since the match began. "I don't think I can remember the last time I fought someone as slippery as you," he said in-between panting for air, "You're sure as heck not an easy target. I respect that in a fighter." |

"Haha, thanks," Fenroar replied, who has yet to show Claru how fast he can really go yet, wondering if he found out he using using air powers earlier, not water. Fenroar can use his air powers to enhance his speed, though unfortunately, he's not sure if he can control it as much as Claru. As evident by hit foot hitting the tree branch and toppling his speed, Fenroar hasn't quite mastered the powers completely, being more of an electric guy. "I can go faster-" In the middle when Fenroar was talking, this time without even moving a muscle or making some sort of signal, lightning fired from the center of Fenroar's chest and directly at Claru. "-if you want me to," Fenroar finished, with not a hesitation in his voice when he fired the lightning blast. He's been secretly charging up another blast of lightning, this one being roughly around the power of the last one, though this time Claru was staring directly at him. Despite its fast speed, he'll likely have a better chance of dodging, especially with that sword already pointing at Fenroar, though probably a bit surprised Fenroar could fire lightning without any sort of motion. He was simply faking it earlier when he fired lightning at the beginning of the battle, making it look like he needed to use his arms to fire electricity. Immediately after he finished his statement, Fenroar jumped out of the water once more, safely landing on the stands at the other side of the arena, with the pool of water now between them. Sure he's probably thinking the same thing, but firing lightning from the darkness is going to lead to a pretty boring fight. I better devise a strategy to end this. -- Sixty-five percent of electricity left. |

The last two times Fenroar had projected lightning at Claru, it had been from a distance. This time, however, Claru was close enough to feel the electric charge building in the air as his opponent prepared to make his attack; the fine hairs on his arms and neck stood as if rubbed against a child's balloon, and the stray 'antenna' of hair on his head straightened like a much less simple metaphor. He instinctively moved his sword in front of him in defence... just as the attack came. Dyrnwyn was, in essence, a small plasma field projector which generated a high energy sheath mere inches from the weapon itself. The alloys used in the weapon's design, therefore, had to be energy resistant in order to prevent it from being worn down by constant exposure to intense heat and the electromagnetic fluctuations caused by the field itself. This made it exceptionally useful for penetrating shields - both physical and energy-reliant in nature - but also made for a damn good anti-energy defence in a pinch. The lightning bolt struck Dyrnwyn and arced into the water several metres behind Claru. The force of the attack nearly knocked the weapon out of his hands, but he kept his grip on it tenaciously and immediately shot forward to begin a counterattack. However, the momentary distraction had been enough for his opponent to put some distance between them, and once again they were back where they started; facing each other from across the arena. "Tch. Can't ever catch a break these days," he muttered, burying the blunt tip of the sword into the ground, "Guess it can't be helped. I'll have to use that." He lifted his left arm to his mouth and bit into the bandaging. Yanking his arm away, the bandages uncoiled with ease, trailing behind him in the wind impressively. And beneath the bandages, there lay the fourth and final of his cousin's creations and Claru's ultimate trump card; the alchemechanical arm, 'Sinister'. It bore the same silver-grey colour as the HERMES armour and glowed from the palm and joints with the same fierce yellow light as Dyrnwyn. He flexed the fingers on the artificial arm experimentally, then pointed a finger at his opponent dramatically. "I didn't want to show off this early in the tournament," he called out, "but I figure this is as good a time as any." |

"Well, this is more like it," Fenroar responded. "I was scared you would just go and tear down the forest again." However, he knew not to take his now revealed metal arm lightly. Fenroar only fired a few lightning bolts so far this battle, and it seems he's now forcing him to reveal more of his true powers, which could force Fenroar to unleash more electricity as well. Good thing he has two batteries. He can manipulate electricity via more then just simple lightning bolts, although being in a ruins-like area make some actions harder to do. Fenroar wondered if his metal arm could end up just being more of a disadvantage to him though. Fenroar can concentrate a strong amount of static onto any metal surface, creating a strong conductive surface that could injure several people. Touching it will unleash the electricity, bursting into the air while the primary electricity painfully shocks those who touch it. The surrounding static will hurt too to those nearby, though not as much as the person getting the main jolt of it. Basically, Fenroar can turn any metal surface into an electrical grenade via touching it and charging strong amounts of electricity into it, though it will probably not leave him with much electricity, consuming around forty to forty-five percent of his electricity. Fenroar's not sure what would happen though if said metal is actually attached to somebody as part of their limb, like Claru. He'd assume the shock and pain would be worst though, if Fenroar ends up getting a chance to touch it. In fact, something has to be charging those lights of his. Maybe he could absorb electricity from his equipment to recharge himself, perhaps making them useless if he gets the chance. Yes... that's how I'll end this, Fenroar thought to himself, readying his sword and holding out in front of him with his left hand, the blade facing Claru. He's also charging electricity within the sword, having a metal blade and hilt. He can use the said power with the metal in the sword to violently shock and paralyze somebody too when he stabs somebody, though the pain varies depending how he injured the person with the sword. However, a small scratch can even cause some numbness around the said area with paralysis. |
