Recently, I've been so dehydrated. I've tried chugging water, but it's not working. Anyone know something that I can try so I'm not always so thirsty?

Those who do good, do...
have you tried drinking other fluids such as diluted fruit juice and semi-skimmed milk?
well if that doesn't work, there might be a chance you're missing a little salt or sugar...

How much water are you drinking, and when are you drinking it?

I always find Freezer Pops to be effective treatment for Dehydration, they allow you to intake fluids at a slower pace then drinking from a glass.

I know basically nothing about the scientific side of this. ^^;

But to be perfectly honest, I find tea very re-hydrating. Water works too, but it either has to be icy-cold or room temperature. Semi-cold doesn't seem to work as well, for me. So, yeah, water and tea. xD I doubt my advice will amount to much, but I suppose it's worth a try, as long as you're not allergic to something in the tea.

Beyond that... If 'chugging' can be taken literally, that may be part of the problem too. Rather than chugging water when you're feeling especially dehydrated, maybe just stick to a cup or two every now and then. Over-drinking water may not be for the best, even if only for increased bathroom trips, haha.

Chugging a lot of water at a time helps none. You're supposed to drink a small amount and sip, not gulp. If you threw back a cup of water every once in a while, that'd work. Or you could also try eating fruits versus drinking water. Apples, grapes, and watermelon are good substitutes.

Excessive thirst can be caused by more severe medical issues. But let's not jump to conclusions. ^_^;

I'd try a fluid besides water, perhaps the "G" serious as the kids call it?
Gonna dropkick it.

And obviously, don't drink TOO MUCH water, as you are only supposed to have so many fluid ounces a day depending on your weight class.

The only times I've ever been dehydrated were when I didn't drink at least three cups of water and ate less than three meals, and the dehydration headaches never left until the next morning.

Try drinking something every two to three hours and see if that helps. That's what I've been doing for the past several months, and the only times I've become dehydrated was, again, when I failed to drink more than three cups of water at a reasonable distance in time. Good luck!

How do you know its dehydration? I'd recommend talking to your doctor asap. Having a constant thirst may mean something else is wrong.

If you drink too much water at once as opposed to juices or other things with some levels of substance, you can actually flush an unbalanced amount of electrolytes out of your body which can leave you with exhausted and sometimes dry feelings.

If you're dealing with dry lips or want a faster fix to feeling dehydrated in general, it's always better to go for something that "coats" like milk or ice cream, as those types of fluids linger longer and do more immediate good to your surface tissues whereas water is more or less absorbed at a much faster rate and will yield returns much more slowly if at all. We're mostly water after all so a straight shot of the clean and cool could end up anywhere in our systems.

I've read that milk doesn't actually hydrate you like other fluids do.

Oh and if your dehydration is affecting your skin, you can always use Burt's Bees lipbalm. It lasts forever and is very good. About $4 at any store. And then for your skin use Eucerin lotion. They have it in all sizes, including portable sizes, it is pretty cheap too. It's pretty much the best lotion that you don't need a prescription for (although when I was younger my doctor did prescribe Eucerin because I had really bad chronic dry skin on my forearms. Thank GOD I don't anymore, I looked like a lizard). It doesn't have a girly smell, so anyone can use it.

But yeah, you should probably get to the root of this problem, although those are some quick fixes in case you are ailing from that.

It may also be because its winter. In the winter a lot of people start suffering from dehydration because they don't feel their sweat as easily because its cold and they don't feel quite as thirsty because of the cold. So they go longer periods without drinking, or don't drink as much as they should. You did say you were drinking but still.. Could have something to do with that.

I would suggest a nice balance of drinks. Water is good, but you shouldn't have too much. I myself try to have at least 1-2 bottles of water a day, I also have a glass of juice and milk sometime during the day (usually with dinner or breakfast). That is normally enough for me and if not I may have a smaller half glass.

Gatorade is pretty good for dehydration as well, I sometimes have a cup when we buy it on occasion.

I myself try to avoid soda now-a-days, not only because of an incident, but because it doesn't quench thirst and there's better things out there. In the event I drink a soda (very very rarely) I prefer the clearer ones and substitute it as my juice/milk.

If you are still having problems with dehydration though, as already mentioned, I suggest you see the doctor because there may be some bigger problem.

@Pai - The main issue people seem to have with Dehydration is the feeling of dehydration, if you have a glass of water followed by a glass of milk you pretty much have done an optimal job fighting it because both drinks will help with the dehydration itself but the milk will really relieve the feeling of dryness because it coats and cools everything for a longer period of time which is relieving.

Ahh okay. I see now.

I addition, my dad had just always told us not to drink milk when we were thirsty. Idk, must've just been him then.
