The most important meal of the day
Vianesse Clark and Victoria Sari were relaxing in their relatively new home in their relatively new country. Victoria, who preferred Tori, didn't have any official duties until later that evening, and Vianesse decided to take the day off training.

Tori was a top agent in the Secret Service. She used to serve the late president of their old country, but assassinated him when she found out that he was corrupt and basically pure evil. Tori was hunted relentlessly while she searched around the country to find proof that would clear her name. During her journey, she met Vianesse, who was on a journey of her own. Ever since, the 2 became good friends, and now, roommates.

Vianesse, fresh out of college, was looking for a good career path, and decided she wanted to be part of the Secret Service with Tori. So when Tori got transferred, Vianesse came with, and endured rigorous training until Tori deemed her fit to hire.

"When is your friend supposed to be getting here?" Tori asked, lazily flipping through a boring looking book. Vianesse didn't look up from her celebrity gossip magazine.

"I dunno, soon? I invited her for dinner," the friend they were referring to was Electra. They had both been possessed by evil spirits that represented the seven deadly sins not too long ago. Vianesse was Lust and Electra was Wrath. When they were freed, they formed a sort of bond, a friendship, and vowed they would do whatever they needed to do to prevent it from happening again. Tori had fought her, but never formally met her. That was part of the reason Vianesse invited her over.

Sandopolis Act 2
A sudden gust of wind announced the arrival of a speedy blonde she-hog. She slid to a graceful stop, her quills streaming out behind her. She stood up and stretched her arms, laughing.

"Wow! I'll never get tired of that rush. I love running!"

She opened her eyes and lifted her transparent light blue goggles up, using them to keep her long bangs from covering her eyes. Her deep medium blue eyes sparkled with kindness and excitement.

"Hi Vianesse!" she said brightly, smiling. Then, she looked at Toria. Her smile faded somewhat; her ears fell a bit flat; her demeanor became apologetic as she looked guilty.

"Er...hi, Toria...i-if I can call you that..." she trailed off. She then coughed and rubbed the back of her head, her eyes lowered to the ground.

"Thanks for the dinner invite. It was unexpected-especially since my 'telephone' is directly inside my head."

She looked up at Vianesse.

"Are you feeling okay? No relapses?"

Vianesse stood up, happy to see her new friend again, alive and well. She frowned at Tori, who hadn't even looked up. Tori was nice enough, but could be kind of rough around the edges and standoffish around people she didn't know-- which was everybody. She had a tough time making friends because she was always so serious and business-like.

"Of course! I've been wanting to have you around," Vianesse gave Electra a small hug, which was her typical way of greeting friends, a habit the 20-year-old still hadn't kicked from her teenage years.

"Tori," Tori said shortly when Electra addressed her. Vianesse turned around and gave her the stink eye for being so rude, but Tori pretended not to notice.

"Oh, come off it. Like you don't go by all three..." Vianesse scolded her, referring to her three most common monikers: Victoria, Toria, and Tori. She was just being difficult and Vianesse knew it.

Tori set her book down on the table next to her and got up abruptly. "I'll go check on your food," she said, before going off into the kitchen.

Vianesse turned back to her new-found friend. "Nope, no relapses... What about you?" she asked, hoping to distract her from Tori's blatant rudeness.

Electra looked a little downcast at Tori's reaction, but she smiled and shook her head.

"Nope! Rail helped me install a security system. Firewalls and all that. Even if something does get in...remembering that I still have a soul helps." she added sheepishly. Secretly, she had feared that being a partial android had robbed her of her soul. Now she was free of that fear-also thanks to Rail.

I have a lot to thank him for...

She ran a hand through her long bangs again-a habit she had no intention of breaking anytime soon, if ever.

"My systems are all running smoothly and stronger than ever. It was also just bad luck it happened to be Mei. She might be the only person in the world I get mad at-besides my aunt."

"Of course you have a soul, sweetie," Vianesse said as she motioned for her to sit in Tori's abandoned seat. Vianesse took a seat next to her.

"If you can think and feel and such, you have a soul. Nearly everyone does. Rail really seems to look out for you huh? You're lucky. I guess I am too, 'cus Tori does that for me. She's kinda like a big sister, but more like a friend..." Vianesse kept her voice down, in case Tori could hear her. She didn't seem to be in the best of moods right now.

"Anyways, tell me about your aunt. Or talk about whatever. There's so little we know about each other, even though we went through so much at the same time. Which hopefully never happens again..." Vianesse trailed off.

Electra sat down, leaning back on the chair and folding her arms behind her head.

"I told myself that too. But...having someone else say it...it kind of makes your own belief stronger. It's a nice feeling..."

A shy smile appeared on her face; it turned into a radiant one when Vianesse mentioned Rail.

"Yeah, he really does! He's literally the best friend I've ever had. And Tori...she cares about you a lot. That's great."

At the mention of her aunt-and the things that they went through-Electra frowned.

"My aunt? I haven't seen her in a while. We don't get along well. At all. I'm like my mom-I take pride in that-so my aunt despises me. Not really worth talking about. Oh-but don't worry! I'm sure that was a one-time thing. And when it really came down to the last straw, our friendships were stronger than their spell. We were stronger than them. Am I right?" the girl grinned again.

"Of course!" Vianesse exclaimed, "We're pretty much the strongest people I know." And it was true, Vianesse had gone through quite a few adventures in her lifetime and she still managed to come out on top somehow.

"My only worry is Tori. She got involved... I really wish she hadn't needed to. If it weren't for me..." Vianesse looked at the ground sadly. "My only thing is, she's still really stressed out about what happened before we moved here. Basically the reason we moved here. Yeah, she'll tell you she got transferred, which is true. But really? I don't know if you heard what she did... over a year ago..." Vianesse paused to wait and see if Electra actually had heard about it. A lot of the world did, but since there were so many sides to the war that had went on in that country, a lot of the facts got misconstrued. All Vianesse really knew was that whatever Tori said was true. She had no reason not to believe her.

Electra blinked.

"I...can't say that I have. I haven't really updated my database all that much."

Her ears fell a bit in confusion and concern.

"Why? What happened?"

Vianesse sighed and shook her head. "The country we used to live in, Tori used to be really high up in the government there. She was a general in the militia, and the president's right-hand woman. She knew everything, she did everything. Really an astonishing accomplishment for a woman so young, but you've met Tori. She's super smart, resourceful, can figure out any puzzle--real or figurative-- in no time. She's got it all. But they started treating her like a robot. I mean, no offense," Vianesse paused and laughed nervously, hoping she didn't strike a nerve there. Then she continued.

"Well the country we lived in was ripe with rebellion. The lower class was treated like dirt, literally, walked on and trampled on and kicked by the upper class. Not me, though. I lived far away from the war zones, so I only knew what came on the television. But of course the government had taken over the news broadcasts and twisted the images, to make it seem as if the lower class people were unreasonable, blood-thirsty savages. And some honestly were. Who could blame them? They lived far below the poverty line. Well Tori was fed all this hogwash as well, and of course she had no choice to believe it. She was right next to the president, practically on his level. She was as revered and feared as he was-- and hated. But truthfully, she didn't know that the orders she was giving and carrying out were just plain evil. Sure she's smart, and she could've figured it out. But like I said before, they had her brainwashed. Not literally but... You know what I mean. Tori's job was all she had left. She had no choice but to do what she was expected to do..."

Vianesse paused and took a deep breath. This really was a lot to explain. Especially since she had to choose her words very carefully to ensure that Electra wouldn't look at Tori in a negative light. It would be easy to. But one had to remember that even though Tori was often hailed as "The Perfect Agent", she was far from perfect. She was only human... Well, not human, but she was mortal and had flaws like everyone else.

"Well one day Tori got sent by the president himself to a particularly hot war zone in the poverty stricken areas of the country. There, she found out the truth, most of it, and set off against her orders to uncover the whole truth. It led her back to the capital, where she started. By the time she got there, she had come to the final conclusion that she had been living a lie, protecting a severely corrupt government, working for an evil man. So she did what anyone would do in that situation." Vianesse held her thumb and pointer-finger in a "shooter" position and aimed it at her head.

"She shot him right through the noggin."

Electra's eyes widened as she processed the new information.

"...I...I see..."

It was obvious the topic of death bothered her. She scratched the back of her head nervously.

"That certainly is a lot to go through. B-but, if she wasn't aware of the lies being told to her, I guess it's not...irredeemable. She doesn't seem like a bad person to me."

The blonde girl looked up into the sky, thinking.

Still...I don't think I could ever kill anybody. It feels so...wrong.

"Oh, sh-she's not! Most definitely not!" Vianesse said nervously, her eyes darting towards the doorway to the kitchen. As if on cue, Tori appeared in the doorway with a look of disapproval on her face, and drying her hands with a dishtowel.

"I'm not," she said, her voice making her sound less than amused. She really didn't like sharing that particular story with other people. Vianesse was the only one who knew the full story, besides Toria, until now. Tori figured that Vianesse must've really trusted Electra to have told her in gritty detail. But Tori did not appreciate this. How could she hope to live a normal, productive life if her wretched and horrible past kept coming back to haunt her? The only way to nip this in the bud was to not tell anyone.

"Tori, it's not like it's some huge secret," Vianesse said, standing up quickly. "Everyone back home knows it was you. The lower class and most of the middle class and even some of the higher classes hail you as their hero. You almost single-handedly restored peace to the nation."

"It's not as cut and dry as that," Tori said, averting her eyes as if she were ashamed of the praise.

"All that matters is the overall outcome. And that outcome was good, wasn't it?" Vianesse walked over to her and put a hand on her friend's shoulder, hoping to restore some of her draining morale.

Tori looked at her friend and smiled, nodding the tiniest of nods in agreement. Then she focused on Electra, although she didn't look as cold and standoffish as she did before.

"Electra, I don't--" Tori began, but was cut off by Vianesse.

"Hang on Toria, do you hear that?" she gestured towards the front door. From outside, the faintest hints of whispers and footsteps could be heard coming from multiple mouths and multiple sets of feet. Outlines and shadows of people surrounding their doorway could be seen through the shades of the two front windows on either side of the door. It was late evening, and the sun was shining directly towards the windows, making their shadows visible and obvious.

"Why are they playing around our door?" Vianesse asked, squinting her eyes as if the answer were written in 8-point font on the front door.

"I don't know, I'll handle this," Tori said as she went over to the door. Pulling it open, she said, "Hey, can I help you guys?" But then she got a good look at them.

Burly men, towering over her in size. Helmets and sunglasses. Military uniforms and shiny guns. And on their arms the crest of the leader whom Tori had assassinated about a year ago.

How could this be? she thought, completely horrified. Then she heard Vianesse gasp, and she knew this was real.

Tori performed a back handspring, kicking the gun out of the first soldier's unsuspecting grip. As she landed in a kneeling position on the ground, she held out her hands and the gun fell into them. But he recuperated quickly, kicking the gun out of her grip and then proceeding to kick her in the face. She flew to the side, clearing a path for them to storm the house. Eight or nine or maybe even a few more bloodthirsty soldiers piled in the house, aiming their guns at Tori on the ground, Vianesse, and Electra.

One of them spoke into a walkie-talkie strapped to his shoulder, "Primary target found. Proceeding to destroy secondary target. Stand-by... Civilian present." Then he raised his gun and pointed it right at Vianesse's head.

"Oh really?" Vianesse asked, her shocked expression gone and replaced by a playful half-smile. "You really think guns can hurt me? Watch this!" she raised her hands, palms-outward towards the gun. It was wrenched by some invisible force out of his hands. He looked taken-aback. Vianesse made a motion and the gun hit him in the back of the head, sending him sprawling, unconscious, to the ground.

Now Vianesse had almost a dozen other guns pointed at her.

"Vianesse!" Tori shouted at her, causing some of the soldiers to train their guns on her.

"Yeah, yeah, I know..." Vianesse made a sweeping motion over the room and all of the soldier's guns were wrenched from their grips and flung into the air. Vianesse made another motion and they all flew behind her, through the doorway and into a whole different room. Then with one last lazy downward flourish of her hands, the clattering of several firearms dropping to the floor could be heard.

Tori scrambled up and stood next to Vianesse. The two cat girls took on fighting poses.

"There, that's more fair," Vianesse giggled as the soldiers charged for them. They met them with equal force, two against many, and fought them with skill that was unmatched and unexpected for young women of their stature and appearance.

At first, Electra simply watched the two girls take on the small army by themselves.

...Wow.

"Freeze!"

The blonde she-hog blinked, looking over her shoulder. One had slipped past the two and was now pointing his gun at her.

She raised an eyebrow.

"Seriously?"

Before he knew what was happening, she was behind him. She placed a hand on his back. A second later the guard was out cold. She'd shocked him into sleep. It was a bit more merciful than what Tori and Vianesse were doing.

It didn't take long before the almost dozen soldiers were out cold in their living room. They were trained, but no match for Vianesse and her metal-controlling powers, nor were they anywhere near the level of Tori and her rigorous training and expert combat skills.

Vianesse looked at Tori, panting and completely shocked. "Is that... them?"

Tori nodded, pursing her lips. She had an unreadable expression on her face. How could this be? Supporters of the old president, his soldiers... How were there any left? She thought they had disbanded?

"We need to get out of here," Tori said urgently. "Vianesse, go pack an overnight bag. Not much, just the necessities." Vianesse nodded and ran out of the room.

Tori turned to Electra. "I am so sorry that you got caught up in that. At least you know exactly what's going on and aren't clueless. At least... You know as much as we do. If you just leave and go on home, you shouldn't have to worry. You heard them, you're just a civilian to them, we're the threats."

Before anyone could say anything else, Vianesse reentered the room, holding up two small bags full of a few things that would last them a few days. She slung one over her shoulders and then handed one to Tori.

"I did as you asked, Toria," Vianesse said, her voice strangely optimistic and chipper. She didn't seem very fazed by the ambush, but inside her heart was still beating frantically. She also addressed Electra.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry Electra..." she said sadly, although there was a small optimistic smile on her face. "You shouldn't stick around. This is just a repeat of what Tori and I had to go through a year ago. Running from the authorities, hiding, getting ambushed and shot at. Luckily we know what to do this time." Her smile grew and she gave her relatively new friend a thumbs up. Hopefully after she and Tori figured out who was behind this and stopped having to run, she would be able to see Electra again.

Tori handed Vianesse the keys to her dark green military-issue Hummer. "Go start the car, I've gotta turn off the gas."

They started walking in opposite directions, both with a sense of urgency. But neither of them had a chance to leave the room. Another soldier burst onto the scene, pointing his gun around the room. Vianesse quickly raised her arms towards him, prepared to disarm him, but he was quicker. Before she had a chance, he shot her, point-blank.

"Vianesse!" Tori screamed as the black cat girl went down with a thud. Though her hand covered her side, blood pooled around her.

Tori was on the soldier in a flash. She kicked the gun out of his hands and punched him in the jaw, instantly knocking him out cold. She had to hold herself back from shooting him dead, she was so angry. Instead she went to check on Vianesse.

"Vianesse... Vianesse, are you okay?" Tori asked, gently rolling her onto her back. She was just unconscious, thankfully. Tori had some medical knowledge, and after examining the wound, she realized that it was more on the superficial side than the serious side. There was no exit wound, and it was probably mostly shock that had knocked her out. The bullet was off to the side, close to missing, and wouldn't have hit any major organs. But still, she had to stop the bleeding. However, that was second on her list.

"Electra," Toria said, "You have to help me get her to the car out front. I can't do it by myself without hurting her more." She started positioning the unconscious Vianesse so that she could carry her out the door. She had to move quickly. That last soldier was unexpected and she had no idea how many more were around.

Electra had frozen at the sight of Vianesse getting shot. For a moment she neglected to respond to Tori, staring at the bloody wound with wide eyes.

She'd never seen someone get shot before, but it brought back a lot of bad memories from her database.

The blonde she-hog quickly shook her head, snapping herself out of her reverie.

"Y-y-yeah. S-sure." she replied, stumbling over her words. Her voice came out higher than she would have liked.

Gingerly, she grasped Vianesse by her ankles and lifted her slightly. She wasn't sure if this was what Tori had meant, but she was trying to help regardless.

"You can't let a little blood and gore get to you, girl," Toria said grimly as they hefted Vianesse out of the apartment and down the front stairs. Toria led them to her dark green Hummer and then took Vianesse herself, gently laying her down in the back seat.

Before doing anything else, Toria ran back up the stairs and closed and locked the door. She wasn't sure if this was entirely necessary. These soldiers probably would break windows and bust down doors to get to them. But when no one reported back to their base or wherever they were coming from, whoever sent them would know that the soldiers had failed in eliminating Tori and Vianesse. There would be more on their trail soon, and Tori planned on being far away by then.

Taking the steps two at a time, Toria practically dove into the driver's seat and started the engine. It was loud, being a Hummer, and Tori hoped that this and the bulk of the vehicle would't cause them to be easier targets.

"I've got to take care of her soon..." Toria mumbled, seemingly to herself, as she buckled her seatbelt and gazed back at Vianesse through the rearview mirror. The black cat girl was still out, but there was a look of pain formed on her face.

Tori turned to Electra through the open door. "What will you do?" she knew it was a vague question. Of course she could come with them, whether for Tori to drop her off or to insure her safety.

"Back over a year ago when I was first on the run, I ran into Vianesse. She did nothing but help feed and clothe me, and let me sleep over for a couple days. Then she was pursued just as viciously as I was. After that, anyone who was even seen talking with us was declared an enemy of the state and eliminated. What I'm saying is... I don't now if they'll pursue you now that they know what you look like. But it is a big possibility. I can try to help. But I have to help her first..." Tori gestured towards Vianesse, who was starting to look paler.
