Combo could do nothing but sigh heavily. Whether she was going to admit it or not, he was hurt that he wouldn't be able to stay with her. The worst part was that there was nothing he could say to defend his position. There would eventually come the day where he would have to return home but who knows how long that could be? Combo definitely had lowered spirits at this moment. He wish he could take the moment back but he had to let her know. The poor fighter felt that the bond that began growing between them had shattered over that period of night. If only she'd talk to him, but that wall was back up and heavily fortified at this point. At this point, he didn't even want to finish his meal. There wasn't much to pack, but he gathered his belongings into his bag and slung them over his shoulder. "Honestly. There isn't much to ask. All I really need to know, I already know." Rael said this in a tone that meant 'stop bugging me or I will make you stop bugging me'. Rael put on her jacket, knapsack, and grabbed the keys to her bike and the room key. She led the way out of the room, down to the lobby and then to the front desk. Much to her dismay, the same desk clerk from the previous evening was still manning the front counter. "Of all the lousy--" Rael muttered under her breath, but cut herself off when the desk clerk focused on the two approaching. "I trust your stay was enjoyable?" he said stiffly, grabbing the room keys from them with two fingers as if he expected them to be contaminated. "Yeah. Whatever." Rael simply turned and walked away. She was in no kind of mood right now. She was still tired, still sore, Combo was annoying her, the desk clerk was bugging her, the sun was too bright. Everything was bothering her now, and she could thank Belial's little surprise encounters for that. Oh, that's right... Rael hadn't told Combo that Belial had visited her the previous night. But did she really have to? It's not like it was need-to-know information, nor should she feel bad for keeping it from him. She was sure if something important had happened during the night to him, he wouldn't tell her. After all, he didn't even try to wake her up during the demon attack back at that small inn. But she had warned him not to try to pull that crap again. Surely he wouldn't. Rael led the way out of the hotel. "We can walk to the parking garage this time. There's no way I'm getting on that God forsaken device. Besides. I guess I do have one question." The early afternoon sun shined and cars rushed by during the lunch rush in the city. But Rael felt completely detached from it all. It was as if she were trapped in her own thoughts. And she knew exactly who held her captive. "I guess... I'm curious. You said you died. That's obviously impossible, unless you're some sort of ghost or shade. Or demon, but don't test me. So tell me. How did it happen? How did you end up how you are now? I want the full story. None of your stupid God-complex bullshit." |

"I don't see why you're acting this way," Combo said, slinging his jacket over his shoulders as it oddly crinkled again. He didn't think of it much but he hadn't put his hands in his pockets since last night to realize what could possibly be making the noise. At least they were finally on their way. Even the morning streets of the city were crammed with people as the two partners made their way to the parking structure from before. People with coffee, bagels, and in business suits rushing to taxis and down the street hoping to get from A to B in the shortest time possible. But then Rael asked her question. It was something he wished he didn't have to relive but he did ask Rael for a bit much so he had no choice. "Well.. Like I said before, there's five of us. It's just that one is more bent on ruling my home planet instead of helping it. The one I'm talking about is named Brago. With his army and powers of darkness, he's been causing chaos on my planet for as long as I can remember. Brago killed the god that preceded me. Not only his sentient being, but his spirit as well, corrupting it with darkness completely." "Then he came after me, the next of the lineage. Brago's plan was to corrupt me, bring another god to his side. Whether it worked or not, he got rid of the previous god, apparently the strongest of them all. Anyway, Brago set my school on fire. I blindly rushed in to save my friend, who survived, thank goodness. It's safe to say I didn't. Brago waited for me in that fire... He crippled me, suffocated me, and left me for my school to come collapsing on top of me." At this point, Combo was slowly beginning to sadden up. But he remained calm, for the most part. "I like being on Earth again," he said, letting that 'again' part slip out. "I'm not allowed to roam my home planet freely for 150 years, to ensure no one remembers me. But here, I can live again. I can eat, I can sleep, I can socialize. It feels nice to finally have real conversations again," he explained, looking back into the sky with a small smile. "Even so, I can't even be here in peace because there's always a chance Brago could take over while I'm gone. I'd hate for something to happen because I didn't stay home," said Combo, trailing off. He's never vented before and he had a lot on his mind but there was no reason to explain every single detail. It was just nice to have a conversation again. Finishing his explanation, he finally decided to reach into his pocket to discover a piece of paper that had been crinkling inside his jacket ever since the previous night. Unfolding it to himself, slightly shielding it from Rael, it read: "555-2354 Your waitress, Kelly. ;)" Combo had a different method of communications, so the phone number written on the paper struck him as odd, Senryuu didn't have telephones. The fighter squinted at the paper and flipped it in multiple directions before giving up and turning his attention back to Raelean. |

"That sounds like some sort of movie or something to me," Rael commented, seemingly unfazed by the tale. "But I can't really talk. Can I." Walking along, hearing his story, she wasn't really sure how to respond. She was pretty open-minded, but she had never had a reason to think of anything going on outside of Earth. "I would be sad that you 'died'. But obviously it can't be that bad. Can it? You are walking and talking just fine. I know some people who die and don't get back up. So count your blessings." Rael said this a little bitterly, but quickly swallowed it. "It's weird..." Rael thought aloud, "You're so worried about what might happen while you're gone. But you say you can't go back. But I say... Who cares? Do what you want to do. And most importantly. Do what you need to do." Rael noticed that he pulled something from his pocket, a piece of paper. She was a little curious but decided not to ask. Then she decided to ask. "What you got there?" she asked nonchalantly. |

Combo took the time to analyze her words. While there were others who didn't get the gift he had bestowed upon him, he couldn't handle the solidarity. However, the remaining Gods back at his home were the closest things he had to family at this point. He wouldn't want anything happening to them. If there was a problem, he'd definitely sense it, but things seemed docile at this time. However, turning his attention to the note, he looked completely confused. "I don't understand what these numbers mean. Are they some sort of code or..?" Combo's planet often 'siphoned' ideas from Earth, but they also advanced faster. So they didn't have telephones, they had holo-communicators. Similar to phones, but you could actually view the person on the other side on a small projected field that rose from the device they wore around their wrist. |

"Give that here," Rael snapped as she snatched the piece of paper from him. She stared at it for a fraction of a second and then tossed it back in the air in front of his face. "Pfft. This is nothing. You need be concerned about. You don't even have a phone. Do you." Rael scoffed, the slightest of half-smiles on her face. There was no way she was going to even acknowledge the notion of possibly being maybe a little jealous. But seriously, the nerve of some people. It disgusted her. That's why she didn't really get on well with people. Oh that, and she was kinda scary. (((Just starting off slow so I can get the feel of things again and then go ahead and get back on track lol.))) |

(Lol, I nagged you about it and forgot myself. XD) Combo found himself smirking slightly as well. Rael's reaction reminded him of his friend back at Senryuu. Of course the girl had a crush on Combo, but the fighter was completely oblivious. His friend was more polite and upbeat but she exuded the same reactions when it came to interactions with other females. "Uh.. No. I've never even heard of the word before," he spoke, blankly staring at the sheet of paper as the wind carried it into grabbing distance. |
