Yeah, sorry for the title being cut off, I continued it in the description due to character limits. But yep. Newtown is blaming violent video games and think that destroying them is the answer. I mknow it was a horrible thing and all, but must we always point the blame at video games? |

It's not just video games that are being targeted, but also violent films and music too. Also its worth noting that the group doing this has no legal power, its not like they can barge into your house and swipe your copy of Call of Duty away from you. All they have been asking people is to 'donate' the violent media in return for gift tokens. |

I still think it's a matter of judgement concerning what people do and/or don't do. My brother and I play arguably violent games, watch arguably violent movies, and I listen to all sorts of music. Yet we aren't thinking about running around gunning people to death. I can see why they're doing this, but I don't agree with it. |

But still. Remember how everyone on Facebook was blaming Mass Effect because the guy liked it? Plus, what if it's a Steam game? Will they destroy the computer? Plus, the guy had a mental disorder! God, these people piss me off...(Not you guys, the people who thought doing this was a good idea.) |

People are blaming big 'influential' things like video games, movies or TV shows because they don't want to point fingers at other people or themselves. If people are fudgeed up enough to do bad things, it isn't the fault of any of the things I named before. It's most likely the fault of the parents - not raising the children well enough to understand what it means to hurt others, friends or just the whole society that makes them go mad. There's always a much deeper hidden meaning behind someone killing other people, or even think about killing themselves, and it's not because of video games. However it would be the most logical thing to do, probably, but it isn't the cause methinks. It won't solve anything. |

Like I said, they cannot take anything from people. If you willingly give them a PC and say "This is full of violence, you must destroy it!" Then they probably will. |

Still, as said before, the guy had mental health problems, and they're still blaming video games? I don't want to live on this planet anymore... |

Stemming from this a bit, I just found out an... interesting... little tidbit. Journalists and news reporters in Connecticut (and somewhere else, don't really remember where right now) are also collecting the names and addresses of all registered weapon-holders and publishing them in newspapers. Talk about your lack of right to privacy. That's absolutely ridiculous. As if knowing where they live or who they are is going to prevent any kind of tragedy from happening! This is just people looking for someone or something to blame (as Pianta so eloquently put it) and trying to cast a false net of control and hand out a false sense of security. I know people are looking for the answers to safety, as well as much-needed closure... But this is not the way to do it. On the other hand, I really don't know what the way to do it is. But that isn't my job to find it, and it isn't theirs either. The nerve of some people... What kind of authority do they think they have? |

Sandopolis Act 2
|
It is, IMO, primarily a symbolic gesture. Our culture and values have degenerated to this point, where we readily accept those who can't discern between fantasy and reality, where we don't teach the next generation decent morals because we've given up on applying absolutes to our lives. At this point, as a nation, we've either gotta take our values back, or watch as our society gets worse. |
| Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk. | |

I mostly think it has to do with the fact we have a poor mental health care system that isn't really in reach for many people. But it is true, that our society has been easily suspect-able to these kinds of things. We are more willing to blame other people and things then ourselves. Instead of taking responsibility and understanding that there are great flaws in our society that needs to be fixed, we rather carry that outside influences are to blame. Course, the way media has evolved, I wouldn't be surprised if the banning lead to a utter COLLAPSE of their economy. But yes, do feel free to attack what you think is the problem and not what really is. |

Flying Battery Act 1
|
Instead of going into a rage-rant like I did with the Mass Effect thing previously, I think I'll take a slightly more relaxed stance today. I'm feeling tired, so I'm not really able to feel annoyed right now, haha. This is a prime example of Wizard's First Rule: "People are stupid. They can be made to believe any lie because either they want to believe it's true or because they are afraid it's true." Simply put, these people have foolishly decided to believe that video games and other forms of media are responsible for violence because they think it might be true. It's actually kind of silly, when you think about it. Of course, it also moves onto another Wizard Rule. The Fifth: "Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie." Destroying things is violent, is it not? It isn't violent against others, but it is a form of violence. So ironically, these people have made themselves into what they fear, if in a minor form. But, so long as they don't take things from people who are unwilling, there's no real opening to stop them. So, for now they may carry on, I guess. I'd like to see it stopped, but if they're behaving within the law... Even more amusingly, this moves onto failing to obey the Sixth Wizard Rule as well. "The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason." And the Tenth: "Willfully turning aside from the truth is treason to one's self." But yeah, maybe I've quoted enough. xD If anyone is actually interested, these are from the Sword of Truth series. |

A symbolic gesture. A humongous annoyance. An outrageous waste. There are many things that describe this. Actually, we have a really good mental health care system. (And by "we" I mean America.) It wasn't that the perpetrator wasn't provided with quality mental health care. That wasn't it at all. That's just people once again putting blame where it doesn't belong. It's funny because if someone said "It's our fault, who will help me fix it." and someone else said "It's there fault we need to drive them/that away from here." who the hell would people follow? Now there's a lot of reasons why people do shit and all, but blaming video games is such a small part of the spectrum of factors it would probably have no effect. And again other countries have the same games and media, but you don't ear this kind of things from them. And even if video games did do anything, these peoples are treating a symptom, not going for the disease. |

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/26/us-mental-healthcare-system_n_2353319.html Figure I just leave this here. If of course we do have good health care, it would likely be too expensive, that, or is not adequately provided. |
