You would think they would come out with Pokemon Shappire or Pokemon Steel or Crystal since they have Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

I would like more a remake of the sapphire, ruby and emerald then a newer game itself.

Three years already? Damn, I thought the 5th gen was being rushed for some reason.

To me, I always thought the 5th gen was a new start to Pokemon. There aren't any evolutions to older Pokemon and it has a region that is completely separate from Japan (Kanto to Sinnoh).

There's two things I'm anticipating at the moment, for Pokemon. First, a new generation. Second, to go with that new generation, either a "2" of the new generation's games, or (preferably, as I see it) remakes of the third generation, finally.

As for the movies, I'm honestly not sure what to expect. I was never super into the show, so I kind of quit by the Hoenn region. For the movies, I've seen most of them from the first, up to the Deoxys one, and the one about the Lucario. No idea which of those is more recent right now, but that's as far as I've watched.

OP's news updated:

Serebii

At the end of a Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 trailer being aired in Japan, a teaser cropped up, being shared around the internet through Twitter, at the end and has stated that the next big news regarding Pokémon will be revealed on January 8th 2013. It's currently unknown what this news is, whether it's related to current games, such as a new WiFi event or if it's a new game reveal. We'll be sure to post the new information, whatever it is, as soon as it is revealed

Relative news came just before Christmas.

Quote:

Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream has posted a greetings card sent out by GameFreak. This greetings card doesn't reveal much news but does state that Junichi Masuda has said that during 2013, they intend to further evolve the world of Pokémon. It's currently unclear as to what exactly this means for Pokémon games but we'll bring the announcements as they come.

It does sound like something big is about to happen.

Bumping and double posting with news from Serebii.

As we posted a week ago, there is some big news coming on January 8th 2013 from the official Japanese site. However, the US site has just posted a note saying to view their site on the same day, indicating that the upcoming announcement is going to have worldwide implications. No hints have come other than that so keep your eye on the site over the next few days to see news as it breaks

This is getting more and more interesting by the day.

I saw a similar message on the Nintendo Facebook.
"Join Nintendo fans around the world tomorrow for the first Nintendo Direct of 2013 at 6 AM EST! Mr. Iwata will be sharing a short message with news about Pokémon to viewers around the globe."

Might be interesting!

It's either Generation VI or RSE remakes. Though I think the latter is more likely.

I certainly hope for the latter, although personally speaking I would expect the former more.

I would agree, Gen 3 remakes is my prediction. If you think about he pattern they've been following for the last few years it's the logical conclusion. Since Gen 3 they've been following a simple pattern in the series of main games. it goes something like this:
Two versions of a new gen>a third version of that gen>A remake of an earlier generation>repeat

For example, we had ruby and saphire, the first gen 3 games. Then we had emerald a third gen 3 game. Then we had firered and leafgreen, remakes of the first gen. Then it repeated by giving us diamond and pearl, the first gen 4 games. Then platinum a third gen 4 game. Then Soulsilver and heartgold, remakes of gen 2. With the fifth gen it's been different in that instead of a single third gen 5 game, they gave us Black2 and White2. But if you assume that they're going to continue the pattern, then the logical conclusion would be that a Ruby and saphire remake is next.

True enough. Although, that Black and White got two games for their 'third' inclines me to think that this generation is a pattern break. It has me a bit worried, haha. xD Sapphire is my favourite Pokemon game, and I'd love to see its remake. There seems to be enough pointing towards a generation 6 that I'm worried, but I'll keep hopeful for a Ruby/Sapphire remake nonetheless.

I don't know, the way this is hyped up makes me think what's coming is much bigger than a remake.
