To strengthen Community relations, this topic allows you to better know our staff. You may ask us any questions you want (obviously within the limits of the Board Rules), and we'll do our best to answer! I've rebooted this topic to a) regain interest in this topic and b) there was too much spam in the old topic. From now on only questions/answers will be permitted in this area.

  • You may direct your question at any number of staff, from one specific staff member to all of the staff.
  • Depending on the staff member, the answers may be accurate, honest, wacky, silly, surprising, entertaining, or even most of those! (If that's possible, anyway. Otherwise just some or one or none of those.)
  • This topic can be as serious or as silly as you want! Questions can range from "How are you feeling today?" to "What's your favorite ____?" to "What did you eat for breakfast? I'm stalking you, but I overslept, and this is totally important" to "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?" to "Who would win in a fight between Steampunk Abe Lincoln and Cyberpunk George Washington?" (Note: Please avoid "who would win in a fight?" questions.) For this reason, we ask you refrain from any Support questions if you have a truly serious question about your board.
  • Because asking and answering occurs in a post/response post format, follow-up questions are also available if you find the need.
  • While you're free to ask any staff member a question, please keep in mind that not all staff are available to answer in a timely manner.

what are your favorite games? :3
And I know it's a bit late coming from me but my overall favorite game has to be X-COM: UFO Defense. I'd also include games like X-COM: Terror From The Deep, X-COM Apocalypse, XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within, System Shock, System Shock 2, Bioshock, StarCraft, StarCraft II, Aces of the Deep, Silent Hunter III, Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific, Silent Hunter V: Battle of the Atlantic, Wargame: European Escalation, Wargame: AirLand Battle and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas/San Andreas Multiplayer

I'm late as well, but I;m going to answer this question anyway, because why not?

Anyway, my favorite games:

Super Smash Bros Brawl:

I've never been into fighting games, but I love the Smash Bros series and Brawl's my favorite entry. The gameplay is fantastic and it had a really good roster of fighters do chose from. Also, I love some of the remix tracks from the OST. ^_^

Pokemon HeartGold/Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky

I don't know which one of these I like better, so I'm putting both of these as my two favorite Pokemon games. I don't think I need to explain HeartGold - it's a remake of Pokemon Gold, which I loved as a kid. And having better graphics, plus new features (Pokealthalon is awesome and I really wish GameFreak would bring back the option to have Pokemon follow you again) really made the remake fresh in my eyes.

As for Sky, I find the entire Mystery Dungeon series sorely underrated. The gameplay can actually require a fair bit of strategy at times, and the music is amazing, especially for a DS Pokemon game. And the story? Oh boy, the story is fantastic. If you haven't played it, basically you wake up as a Pokemon with no memory other than that fact that you used to be a human. You become best friends with another Pokemon and you join this guild so you can make your own team of explorers, all while finding out why you became a Pokemon in the first place. Sounds cheesy and kiddy, doesn't it?

It's not.

The story goes through what TV tropes defies as 'Cerebus Syndrome' - it starts out silly, but it gets steadily darker the more the game progresses. Actually, I'd go so far as to say it's the darkest a Pokemon game has ever gotten and pretty much the main reason why I keep coming back to it.

Sonic Unleashed: (XBox 360 version)

Okay, I'm going to get this out of the way - I absolutely love the Werehog. I'm going to go as far as to say I like the nighttime gameplay more than the daytime's. Not that the daytime gameplay wasn't awesome, it was, but I prefer the combat-oriented, platform heavy-style of the Werehog's gameplay. The story is also one of my favorites in the series, Level design and music is great too.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door:

Not only do I like the way the RPG combat is cleverly implemented, and the music is great, but the storyline, much like with Explorers of Sky above, is something that looks cheesy and kiddy at face value (I mean, it's a game where you play in a world where everyone is made of paper, okay?), but it actually gets pretty dark, more so then the normally family-friendly Mario franchise got at times. And yet it also manages to be one of the most hilarious games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

Yoshi's Island:

I'm not joking when I say this is my favorite video game of all time. Unlike the last few games I mentioned, it doesn't have much of a story. But here's the thing; it doesn't need to. What sold me on this game when I first played it nearly two decades ago was the gameplay, artstyle, the level design, and the music. The soundtrack is insanely catchy and the 'Underground' theme remains one of my favorite tracks in a video game. Levels are cleverly designed, filled with secrets. Not only that, but no level is all that similar from each other. Sure, you have plenty of gimmicks that get repeated, but the game manages to figure out new, creative ways to implement them. The the fact that you weren't being timed - like every Mario game before it - allowed for a chance at some great exploration.

As for the artstyle, it may have looked like a bunch of crayon drawings, but it was surprisingly detailed for a 16-bit SNES game and I've always adored it. As for the gameplay, what I like about it is the amount of variety it has. There are many ways you can take down enemies for instance, from eating them, throwing eggs at them, crushing them with a Chomp Rock, Ground Pounding them, even hitting them with watermelon seeds! The Flutter Jump many a time makes what would otherwise unbearable platform segments far less frustrating and even fun at times. Yoshi's Island is a really fun experience and a game I never get bored of.

Regular, well known and reliable female users are a rarity on some forums, I'm just depended on my own curiosity.

Yes. Eileanach, Blaire and Raven here just to name a few. They're definitely around.

Not that it should matter that much.

I did not know that Raven was staff member. :P

Please don't kill me Raven. ^^;;

And to answer your question, while I was first introduced through the series via AoStH as I kid and SA2B kind of paved the way for this, it was watching SatAM for the first time at seventeen that really got me into the series. From there I gained an interest in the various aspects of the fandom and the rest is history.

I had assumed she meant the forums in general rather than just within staff.

As far as staff goes the only active ones are yourself and Eileanach, no? And I do see Pianta pop in from time to time still.
