Helloz,
Well you should be able to tell exactly what kind of topic this is. In this topic, we celebrate..AND mourn the passing of a titan in video gaming journalism.

That's right. I'm talking about....

In case you have been living under a rock for quite a while/ haven't picked up a single issue (this possibly couldn't had happened to you...did it?)/too shocked to make a topic about this (VERY SURPRISED that no one made a topic for this yet!!!) here's the deal....

This month marks the absolute END of the tomes of epic awesomeness that is known as Nintendo Power. No one really knows (IMO) exactly WHY they're doing this (And before you ask, NO. They are NOT, AS FAR AS I KNOW, PLANNING TO GO ONLINE, LIKE SO MANY OTHER MAGAZINES HAVE ALREADY DONE.) it is simply a very painful thing to hear.

This thread was made to do two things; (A) share your fondest memories of NP all throughout its history (1988-present) and (B) share the things you'll miss most now that it's out of business, and not publishing anymore (And no, there hasn't been any talk about a new publisher either).

Or you can do both. That's three things, but hey, who's really counting? Well, share away.

--The K--

I guess i can share my memories with NP.....

The thing is, I don't have massive fond memories of Nintendo Power. But its been my go too magazine for Nintendo for as long back as I can remember. It saddened me to see it gone now.

The only memory I have of Nintendo Power magazine is reading an article about the GBA re-release of Super Mario World while I was in middle school.

Well I for one never bought a Nintendo Power(although I did look over a few of my friend's issues) but it does sadden me. It was a good magazine and, unfortunately, pretty much all magazines are going dead including The Official Playstation Magazine. I guess it's because gamers don't really need them anymore since most gamers get the info much faster on news websites.

I object to your claims
As someone who has fond memories of reading Nintendo Power as a child, I have to say this saddens me. It was definitely my favorite gaming magazine.

It's simply due to tough times. Nothing more to it sadly.

I used to subscribe to the magazine, but eventually stopped. I did continue reading the series at the library though. They definitely had some nice previews, though their reviews I wasn't too fond of half the time. So yeah, it was sad to see them go. Bought the last issue a while ago, and nearly brought a tear to my eye.

^^ I forgot about this.^^
Tough times can be the culprit of this too. However, an opinion is an opinion.

Thank you everyone for responding to this thus far including the great and powerful Neo Metallix!! Now keep it up!!

What? No, no, no. That really is the culprit. There's no conspiracy or anything surrounding this. It's just the truth.

It's true, The Internet has hit the magazine industry hard by doing what it does only faster as well as giving fans the chance to voice there own opinions.
What I find strange is Nintendo's decision to stop production of this magazine yet still continue with the Official Nintendo Magazine (The UK equivalent of Nintendo Power) Does the UK population really read more magazines then the US?

Kinda. They are seperate, but when given the choice to refund it or make it digitally, Nintendo of America wasn't interested. Likely due to the different branches.

Nintendo announced just a few months ago it was no longer publishing Nintendo Power Magazines. Well, it looks like Nintendo Force will be taking its place and picking up where the longtime magazine series left off. They have been building a team since the original announcement that Nintendo Power would no longer be in business and they are promising the entire selection of content that the original magazine offered. You can follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook as well.

This is not run by Nintendo itself, but a group that thought it was a shame to see the magazine end. We luck out as consumers because it looks like they put together a really great team. Nintendo Force is expected to launch in January and 100% of their first issues earning will be donated to charity.

What is the difference between a duck?

Gaming mags are going the way of the dinosaur specifically because of economics.

Physical material.. be it magazines and newspapers are still nicevolumes of information, but it is becoming harder and harder to compete with the internet, combined with the fact you have to dispose the physical mediums sooner or later. Another old bonus specific to gaming magazines were Demo discs.. now that the majority of demo material can just be downloaded through in-system stores, the need for the disc in each issue pretty much evaporated.

I love gaming magazines, but I'm well aware that Nintendo Power, Official Playstation, and soon Official Xbox I'm sure will all be gone simply because they are no longer a profitable venture. And while it is a nice endeavor, I don't expect Nintendo Force to last more than a year or two once it's creators start hemorrhaging money. Digital information isn't the way of the future, it has already proven to be the way of today, and magazines can't compete with it, especially the Gaming ones that rely on an already tech savvy audience.

Simply put, Nintendo Power just wasn't as funny as some of the other huge game magazines out there. I like my game mags funny, 'cause I mean come on, they aren't newspapers! There should be just the right amount of informative hilarity in there. It was alright, I've only read a few issues when my cousin used to get them, but it just wasn't my favorite. That's just my opinion though.
