Pokemon Channel was a 2003 video game published for the Nintendo Gamecube, created as a virtual pet video game where you can interact with other Pokemon, while living with a none evolving Pikachu that can be nicknamed and even trained later in the game. Unlike other Pokemon games, the game uniquely allows the player to interact with Pokemon without actually having a main goal or story plot to follow. The start reveals simply that Professor Oak has decided to create a television network that can be enjoyed both by Pokemon, and their trainers. And a trainer whom is the player, has been chosen as a beta tester for the network.![]() The game is not hugely popular among gamers and has not got the best ratings among others, as X-Play was the most harsh on the game, considering it to be the 2nd worst Gamecube game to date, ahead of Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis. The television-loving Pikachu observes as the Magnemites deliver the television into the gamers house. As the network was developed for the purpose of being enjoyed by both Pokemon and their trainer, the Pikachu becomes a beta tester as well. The game uses the Gamecubes internal clock to predict the time while as real time progresses you can see from the clock inside the house the correct time. Along with the outside areas and windows that reveal the changing colours of the sky revealing when it is morning noon or night. As time progresses. New channels on the network become available. All channels are interactive in some fashion. for an example, the News channel tells stories related to events actually happening in-game. And the player can go to the location where the events are happening and investigate them with Pikachu. Spoiler: click to toggle The Pikachu can do many things other then watch the television network or follow the trainer around. Pikachu can fall asleep, and when awoken can become angry or sleepy, you can tell this by the spinning of the eyes or the generally anger that is visible when unleashed. Pikachu can also turn the television on himself. And when doing so he can pick a channel to watch. If you refuse him to watch a channel and you change it to another, he shows his saddened feeling by turning towards the player and then waving his hands in a wavy motion while a saddened expression becomes visible on the Pikachus face. Pikachu can also answer questions for you on the special interactive channels such as the quiz show: Quiz Wobbuffet. and can also fall asleep during the time he watches the channel. You also have the control to stroke your Pikachu while he is asleep or is awake. Stroking Pikachu makes him happy! Spoiler: click to toggle Out of all the different channels on the network, there are also special episodes of The Pichu Bros that can be unlocked by simply being watched generally. The game allowing the show to be watched from start to finish has made it a very popular game, and is only one of the reasons why people still adore it today. When Pikachu makes friends, you will sometimes see them knocking on the door, Pikachu will approach the door and open it. Allowing the Pokemon to come in. But you are unable to interact with them during that time. Sometimes, when you save and quit the game, you will see a short twenty second clip of Pikachu watching the television without you. Or in some cases he will invite Pokemon over, and they would watch the television together. There is a channel on the television network that allows you to buy items. The items can then be used around the house. These items include stuffed toy Pokemon, posters, and wallpaper. The channel is one of the most interactive and overall most popular out of the other channels on the network. Walkers, Walkers everywhere

I'm going to be brutally honest. I hated that game with a passion. There was so little to do that it boggled my mind how Game Freak thought it was okay to release. It's not the WORST I've ever played, (The worst Pokemon game I've ever played it probably D/P/Pt), but it's still pretty bad imo. I would give it a 5.0/10. |
| Gonna dropkick it. | |

To me, it was kinda like a "Hey You Pikachu!" Clone. However, it was a radical idea to me at the time. A lot better than "HYP!" IMO. 5.5/10 from me. Sorry GAME FREAK. |

I object to your claims
|
You guys do know that Gamefreak didn't develop this game, right? =| It was Ambrella, who has also developed Hey You Pikachu and other spin-offs of the series. Anyway, I've never played this game, so I can't say much about it. Edited by HollyYoshi, Nov 30 2012, 03:48 PM.

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
|
I remember reading about the game in Nintendo Power, after enjoying Hey You Pikachu (to some extent) on the N64. For a while, I rented the game from a local Blockbuster multiple times, until I finally found it at a Gamestop store. As with my overall experience, I liked it. I understand that people cannot have with it because of its "straight-forward" gameplay, but that does not matter to me. It is the character and atmosphere that this game is. It feels like a Pokemon world, more so, a more expand version of Hey You Pikachu. And if you are not doing random tasks for collectables, you can watch some TV, through your TV. And each channel is colorful and beaming with character and can be very addicting too. As a game, it succeeds, but to some, the gameplay might not what they are looking for. If your a BIG Pokemon fan, I would highly recommend. For anyone else, rent it, because it a very unique experience that you may not have again. |
