So I'm cruisin' around on the net, perfecting my trolling techniques, when I stumble upon this little gem:

WASHINGTON -- Colorado is one of 15 states that has filed an official petition to secede from the United States of America and create its own government.

The citizen-driven protest comes in the wake of President Obama being re-elected Tuesday. Colorado citizens are protesting despite the state voting for Obama by more than 100,000 votes over challenger Mitt Romney.

Obama received 51 percent of the swing state's vote, while Romney got only 46 percent.

The petition needs 25,000 signatures in the first month of protest for the Obama Administration to consider it. Colorado made its protest Saturday, which means it has until Dec. 10 to gather the 25,000 required signatures for consideration.

Colorado had 7,123 signatures as of 4 p.m. MT Monday.

The title of the petition is "Peacefully grant the State of Colorado to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government." The language of the petition is as follows:

As the founding fathers of the United States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

Only Texas has gathered enough signatures for consideration. The Lone Star State had 32,448 signatures at 4 p.m.

Louisiana, North Dakota, Montana, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Oregon and New York have all filed petitions with the White House as well and all have at least 2,500 signatures.

Of the 15 states, Colorado is one of five in which the majority voted for President Obama in the 2012 election.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm being trolled myself, but it looks to me like some states are upset about Obama winning and are spitting the dummy over not having their way? If this is true then talk about a triumph for democracy... oh wait.

Yeah, because the rest of the world didn't already think that to begin with(don't kill me it's a joke!)

Personally, and this is if this is confirmed to be a true story(I'm not seeing anything on UK news websites just yet, for example) then I'd have to say this is an extreme of America's lawsuit mentality gone badly wrong.

Burnt your hand on a hot car exhaust that wasn't labelled up as being hot(Dodge Viper)? Sue them.

Can't get your way in a presidential election? File for divorce.

Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but you can't tell me I'm completely wrong.

Eh, I don't think you're being trolled, this has been aired all over the news (especially CNN.) Oh, and Omerto, Colorado went blue only because of the Electoral votes. The state itself (population) is pissed.

I honestly don't care if several states secede. I honestly think both Romney and Obama have problems and I wish a candidate that knows what the Hell he's doing runs for president one day. Wait, hold on, MoD, were those articles from a government-based website??? If so, then, it's possible that it might actually be happening.

Honestly, nothing surprises me with the drama that comes after elections. My boyfriend directed me to a rage video on youtube, which I sadly don't have a link to, which was basically 20 mins of some woman yelling at liberals, libertarians, and conspiracy theorists (and fellow republicans?) how they were running Amuricuh into the ground and making the US turn into a socialist country and how now we'd suddenly be like England and all those other "broken socialist places." I saw another video about some guy pissed at California for voting Obama, pretty much saying they are retarded. Then he started talking about how he was white and something about racism or something or other.

So I'm really not surprised if there's butthurt like this, even if it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

No. As is almost always the case, the electoral votes went to the winner of the popular vote: In Colorado, Obama received 1,280,490 votes; Romney received only 1,125,391 votes.

Here you go. I would like pictures of the soon-to-be-thrown tables please.

Looking at the website however, I am now wondering if it's a bit of a troll. There's two petitions signed for South Carolina, for example - and there's also two for Missouri.
They're almost all worded identically and popped up within hours if not minutes of each other... And there appears to be no restriction on creating petitions beyond creating an account for that website.

Not 100% sure on the legitimacy of this thread now... MoD got trolled?

Okay, if this isn't a troll, I honestly don't know what to say. It kind of puts an ironic light on the word 'United', though. These people really need to think about what they're doing; America is a powerful country, and honestly I have suspicions that part of world peace is a balance between the powers on opposing sides in issues, so if this is true it could very well be the trigger moment for a spiral into war.

However, as MoD has brought up, the website might very well be a bit questionable, so I can't really say I know for certain if there's cause for worry as of yet.

After reading the thread late last night, I did some digging and supposedly the petition for Colorado's secession has been signed by a majority of out of state people. There are a few signatures from the state in question, but most signers aren't from there.

It sounds like no one has a concrete number on the states who want to leave.

True enough. xD; Quebec seems to rather consistently want to separate. Yet, they also don't want to separate for some reason. When the provinces signed early uniting papers, Quebec didn't sign any of them (Effectively making themselves not Canadian), yet still demanded the ability to vote for the Prime Minister of Canada (Effectively demanding Canadian rights, without any of the responsibilities of Canadian citizenship, when taken in regards to their denial to sign the uniting papers) with those who did sign. I'm pretty sure Trudeau fixed things up for them notably later, but that still puts into perspective how much Quebec wants to be separate-but-not-totally-separate. It's a very strange province, that way.
