Does this mean they will be getting rid of friend codes for their handhelds too?

The 3DS probably could with a firmware update, but considering it only uses the one friend code for everything I don't see why they would need to. As for the cards, no idea. Someone will probably release an unofficial one in time if Nintendo don't make one.

I have no idea if it's true or not though.

They technically already did away with the Friend Codes for individual games with the introduction of a universal Friend Code for your console instead. That I could believe. But unless it's replaced with something akin to the ID system for the Nintendo Network, I don't see it working. I s'pose they could do something akin to what they did with the PSN sharing a single ID over PS3, PSP and Vita consoles. But I dunno if it'll be worth their time to do so.

That sounds like a very good start to me. 3DS could update that, Wii and U could do with that. I HOPE. However, that would be a little hard to depict here on =SB=, having a mii pic or something.

Or do we have to make our own graphic for it?

If it's technically a "Nintendo ID" shouldn't the Wii U part of the graphic be something different as the Wii U likely won't be the only Nintendo device supporting the Nintendo ID in the future? Just want to make it right before I put it in.
