Ways old Sonic games could have been better; Exactly what it says on the tin.

Well, this is for ideas you have for the older Sonic games, basically any one that has already been released.

For example...

There are two things that put me off about Sonic CD: The system used for Time Travel, and the Special stages. I love the levels, the look, the music, those things I like. But I can't stand the time travel mechanic, as I always have trouble with it, and occationally travel in time when I don't want to. So, here's my idea.

Have the Time Stone hidden in the first act. You keep it for the rest of the Zone. When you get it, you get to simply travel in time whenever and wherever you want. You can just pause, select "Time Travel" off of the menu, select Past, Present, or Future, and then travel. There's the issue of getting stuck in the level due to doing this, but really, the original game sometimes had that happen too, and with this you can easily just go back, which is a point in this system's favor.

So that's my idea.

Any game that has already been released, hmm? Including the Adventure games and beyond? Well then...


As much as I love Unleashed, I must say the Tornado Defense Acts absolutely sucked. One giant quick time event and then you get to Eggman. You try and defeat him, possibly losing several lives just because you pressed a wrong button each time you try, AND you have a time limit to boot.


And then the time runs out and you discover that you never needed to defeat Eggman, you just needed to survive.

What the hell game? All that annoyance for nothing?

Instead, what I think should have been done...well, first off, get rid of the quick time event aspect - or at least make it appear only a couple of times. The gameplay should control similar to the Sky Chase Acts in SA1, with the targeting from SA2's shooting stages. And you actually have to defeat Eggman to advance, as well.

I sure I made this opinion heard a few times before but uh..
Sonic Unleashed.. Werehog be Knuckles.. That would be wonderful! Oh yeah, and in every Sonic game since Sonic Heroes, they should change that Knuckles isn't doing his job.. Like, at least have it implied he does his job and that they have to go get him, AT LEAST..
Yeah, all of that are cosmetic changes I guess.

Sonic 1: Less Annoying Edition

-Marble Zone layout altered to lessen amount of waiting
-The specifing rising-falling blocks in Spring Yard Zone, the ones that are easy to get crushed by? Get rid of them
-Completely rework Labyrinth Zone's layout to make it faster
-Get rid of the bomb enemies in Starlight Zone
-Have a small delay between pressing down and the screen looking down, ala Sonic 2 or 3
-Change Labyrinth Zone Act 4 into what is should be, Scrap Brain Zone Act 3

They need to make it so Tails' and Sonic's movements are better synchronized with one another in the special stages in Sonic 2 so that Tails doesn't hit all the bombs.

With Knuckles Chaotix I would have like to have seen more of Metal Sonic. Also, Bomb and Heavy kind of made it a little frustrating to play the game while you would want to choose a different "buddy" every so often during a game. I will say that the clock gimmick for Amazing Arena was cool and that's something I wouldn't want any other way. Made the stage different compared to the other four. More cameos from Sonic and Tails would've been nice too.

Honestly, all I can really think of is including spindashes to Sonic 1, but the more I think about it that wouldn't work as well as I'd hope for. Mostly due to level layout.

Hmm.... Other than that, I suppose a few minor layout changes to the later levels of Sonic 2 would be in order. But, this is really more of a vague idea for me. The layouts weren't bad, to tell the truth.

I would have to agree with the Sonic CD tweaks. The time travel system, while interesting, is not the most reliable mechanic. I too have trouble being shot off into the past or future when I don't want to, especially when it gets to the last few levels. It gets so chaotic for some reason near the end of the game that I time travel when I don't want to.

I don't quite recall the controls, but I think what might work is to make him have a figure 8 dash that is exclusively for time travel purposes. The mechanism would use the up pad and actions button. Sonic would rev up his feet in a figure 8 pattern, like revving up a spin dash, and upon release would travel a certain distance and finally do the time travel thing. I also wouldn't mind if time travel posts were visible on the screen somewhere (I don't think they were), considering I've had times where I would fly across the map and lose track of the posts I've hit.

Another game I would tweak only slightly is Labyrinth zone from Sonic 1, just the boss. I don't think Eggman should really show up like he does. It just confused me back then because I would eventually catch up to him, thinking I have to hit him and waste my time trying to get up to the top. It should either be a scene where Eggman runs by, flips a switch, and triggers the Labyrinth to start filling up or Eggman is in his vehicle, does a chuckle and speeds off to the right of the screen. Maybe the screen shakes and debris falls into the water.

I would like if the ports of SA 1 & 2 were actually remakes. Don;t get me wrong, the games were still great when they brought them to the GC, but I don't see why they were labelled as Director's Cut or Battle when they really only tweaked a few things/gave new characters cameos.
