This thread is basically for people who have been scared of something within the wonderful gaming universe. I'm sure a thread similar to this one has already been created but just in case I'm wrong I've create this one. If you have ever been scared of something within the gaming universe be sure to post it here so we can basically discuss our fears about that location or character. To be honest I've not exactly been 'scared' of anything in a video game. Searching around websites like Creepypasta do not really count since they don't actually exist as official characters within the gaming world. So I'm not really scared. But anyway hope you enjoy this thread and please make the most of it!

Secretly I think that anyone who plans on making some sort of large creation or any creation in general should keep it on peaceful. |

Playing Doom 3 in the dark. Another realistic one is when I played Alien Trilogy in my basement back in 98 or 99 I remember dying at one point and hearing something by the washer and dryer that creeped me out. When I went over there I shit you not I saw the dome of the Xenomorph and instead of running I went over to check it out. When I got close enough the dryers buzzer noise went off and I screamed and ran upstairs saying that there was one of the aliens in the basement. It turns out what I thought was the head of a Xenomorpth was a trash bag with a Christmas wreath in it. Silly me. This still haunts me today. |

Angel Island Act 2

Last week I was home alone, at night, playing this online Flash puzzle game (don't remember which one it was now). It didn't have any music and I didn't have anything playing, so the house was pretty quiet. I was getting really engrossed in it when all of a sudden I heard this "tap, tap tap" on my bedroom window. Very obvious and exactly like if someone decides to knock on your window because they want your attention. Here's the thing, though: I live over 15 floors up, so my bedroom window overlooks a drop of at least a good 150 feet. There aren't even any tree branches that high, and obviously there is nowhere for someone to stand out there! What could they have done, rappelled down 6-7 stories from the roof to tap on my window? But it definitely was not an insect, bird or bat fluttering into the window; I've heard that before and it doesn't sound the same. The really creepy thing is that I do have a little balcony out there, which only I have access to. It's recessed into the side of the building so there's really no way to get to it, even from one of the other apartments. But it's right next to my window, so I couldn't tell if the knocking I'd heard was coming from the window or the sliding door to the balcony. Plus, the sliding door doesn't have a working lock. So it was like, if somehow it turned out that there *was* something knocking on the window outside... it could come in. Obviously it didn't, though, or I wouldn't be sitting here typing this. It was pretty freaky at the time though. Just as an aside: Personally, I suspect it might have been the game I was playing. Like I said, it didn't have any music, but it did have some sound effects and this subtle white noise in the background. I thought at the time that maybe it was supposed to be creepy or something, but it was quiet enough that I just kind of tuned it out after a while. I'd been playing for maybe 10 minutes, so think it's possible that it could have been programmed to play random sounds every so often. I just don't know if it's feasible that it could make a sound effect that seemed like it was coming from behind me. And I don't remember what the game was called, so unless I am able to find it again I can't test that theory. |
| I love programming! I work at Mommatown as a programmer on sites like Vincent Martella's, Don Leslie's and IPO Boutique. When I'm not doing that I'm usually writing game mods. <3 | |

You have quite a good story there. And plus it is quite convincing and interesting to read upon. But I was referring to moments in the gaming universe that has scared you. Not real life moments.

I always hated the Game Over screen of Mighty Max. It would scare me so bad I would leave the room. Always gotta love how Game developers like to punish people for failure. Also, Sonic CD, playing it the first time, and hearing the American game over for the first time. In the mix of the evil laughter, the creepy ass music, it really drives home your failure. Otherwise, I can't think of much else. I remember playing Killzone 2 and seeing...weird accurances when i get killed. Such as a Helghast waving at me when I was dead, or one pulling my body to view his face mask. I can't find anything on such things happening, so for all I know, it just happened in my mind or I mistook both for glitches/animation faults. EDIT Oh gods I forgot. There was one part in Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey that horrified me, because of just how true it was. In the game, you and your team have been sent into a growing destructive force called Schwartzwelt that threatens to consume the world. As you go through it, you find that the areas you go to are modeled after the humans and their sinfulness. Carina horrified me. In it, it was a giant mall dungeon. The music was demented as you went through. All along the walls was stuff like a grocerory store, or your usual shopping place. There were all kinds of things for sale. Some parts had animation, where if you look up, you could see escalators with nondescript people going up and such. Some parts had a animation of carved meat going through a conveyer meat hook. Planes, weapons, even animals for sale to show that nothing was safe from consumerism. The demons there didn't make things better. One commented to "Consume until the world runs out of resources." I was horrified by it cause of how true it was. And reminded me why I don't pick the neutral path. Edited by VlaDDrakkeN, Oct 23 2012, 11:50 PM.

Haha! I think everyone knows that all game companies try to punish failure. I think there was a game based off some horror movie that said something like "Game over, you're family is dead, you're brother is dead, you're wife and kids are dead, your camp mates are dead," I'm sure it said something about your camp mates being dead. So funny but brutal at the same time. x'D |
