Typing without looking?

Yeah, I'm just going to ask a random question because it does apply to me a lot. Who here can type without having to look at what they are typing?

I don't have to look at the keyboard, which is good. It makes me faster at doing things like typing down posts for role plays or doing essays. I learned in sixth grade how to type perfectly.

I object to your claims
I could never get the hang of that 'homerow key' shit - I've always ended up typing way too slow and pretty much have to look at my keyboard whenever I attempt it.

Instead, I type freehand. Way more comfortable and I can type much faster with nary a glance at my keyboard.

Plus my phone has a qwerty keyboard, I asked specifically for it. xP
I used to type without looking with a Blackberry too, but now with my HTC I'm just glad I have autocorrect... ^^;

Hmm... that reminds me that I wanted to figure out how fast I type. I know it was about 48 wpm at one time, but that was like ten years ago... how do you folks usually determine how fast you are?
I love programming! I work at Mommatown as a programmer on sites like Vincent Martella's, Don Leslie's and IPO Boutique. When I'm not doing that I'm usually writing game mods. <3

Christmas is back again

Lemme put it this way.
I couldn't understand how to learn to write properly, without having to constantly be looking, seen as the letter's aren't places in any linear fashion, but in fact are rather randomly dotted around.
Surprisingly it's effective, and I believe most of us will in time, learn the way's of merely looking ahead upon the screen, while finger's mashes all the buttons we're looking for.

So my answer is, yes.

Break out the L-word. The other L-word.
I don't really do home-row or anything. When I first started using computers a lot, the thing I did most was play video games, and as you may know, the movement keys for a lot of games are "WASD", and that's where I keep my left hand when I type (also space bar and left shift, but I always use right shift). I keep my right hand on the keys P, L, and right shift.

I took a typing class in sixth grade, but I have multiple keyboards because of multiple devices. My little netbook keyboard, my desktop keyboard, and my laptop keyboards are all too different for me to work with without looking. I still practice it a bit on my normal keyboard. I am actually doing it right now, but I'm not using homerow keys, I'm just moving around the keyboard and feeling for the J key every now and then. Does that count?

Sorta. I mean I usually have to look at the keyboard to make sure my hands are in position, but once I start typing I just keep my eyes on the text as it comes out to make sure I've avoided any typos and the like.

Yet somehow, they still make it in.

I didn't really teach myself to do it, but after using computers for a while I found I just kinda got good at it. It's a reflex memory thing I guess.

"To test myself, I'm trying to type this exactly sentence with my eyes closed."

... welp, I did pretty well besides adding an 'ly' when I didn't need it. My hands always seemed to auto predict for me, so I correct myself a lot. ŠP

Yeah, it's not very hard to type with your eyes closed. It's basically the same thing as not even looking. Which is why this entire post I typed hile watching TV. I know when I hot the wrong button but I can still backspace and correct it. Whoo~.

(Missed that w in while above. Macbook keys are hard to work with. :o)
-Sig under construction because the next thing I use will be hilarious-

Hey guys! Check out this game I made Here!

Also, you typed 'hot' instead of 'hit'. ŠP

But yeah, kind of a handy skill, I guess~

Sadly I can't type without looking. I can type pretty fast, especially when I have an idea of some kind, but I need to see what I'm doing. >:
