Rail Grinding; What do you think about it?

I object to your claims
First introduced in Sonic Adventure 2, rail grinding has since become a series staple. And, like a lot of gameplay elements, had has changed over the years. But what do you guys personally think about it?

Personally, I think it's a fun, if not fairly simple element of the games. SA2 had some really good mechanics, except for one thing; actually switching rails. Oh my god, this part was nothing but complete and utter shit. It was very awkward and easy to complete miss the rail you were aiming for. Only other thing I have to say about that is I'm glad you hardly ever had to switch rails.

Heroes' rail grinding was...meh, at best.

Unleashed wasn't quite as good, or 'edgy' as SA2, but man did they greatly improve rail switching. Simple, yes, but so much less frustrating to regulate that aspect to the trigger buttons. So much less.

If I could change grinding though, I'd have it like SA2, but with Unleashed-style switching. And I'd like to be able to perform some cool tricks with it, like you can do in Advance 2 for instance.

What about you guys?

Back on topic, when I first played Sonic Adventure 2 I absolutely loathed rails because of how hard I thought Final Rush was. It took me two days to beat the stage. Although I like the rail grinding now but I have to admit that once you get the hang of it in SA2, Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog it's really fun.

Going full speed on a railing in SA2 was something unheard of when I first played it. Now I play Final Rush just because it's fun.

I.. To be honest, don't think that much of the rail grinding, I mean.. I don't really even know how to put it, in SA2 it was easily memorable and interesting, now it's kinda.. Not really interesting, it's cool looking but at best that's what it is to me.

however rail grinding in 2D Sonic games I easily have to say sounds unneeded.. It kinda loses its "Wow that looks cool" factor for me.

So yeah, rail grinding.. It works, let's not break it.

Good vibes.
I rather like the rail grinding in Sonic 06 *shot*

Okay, seriously though, I like the current system. I really don't like the SA2 system, as I could never maximize the speed, and he looked really goofy grinding on the side of the rail. I don't like how you can't rail switch in 06, but on the other hand, homing attacking the rails is a nice addition. When playing SA2, I sometimes forget I can't do that.

I think the rail grinding system is pretty fun, especially in SA2 because if you timed your button press at the end of certain rails you could score bonus points. I can't really comment on the system in recent games as I'm not 100% up-to-date, I haven't played Colours and those games only Generations. However I do look forward to seeing what kind of interesting ways this feature will be implemented into newer games. :)

I remember i could never rail grind in the original sonic riders until i found out this one thing....

I read a FAQ that teaches you how to play sonic riders i learned how to grind on rails when the person wrote press A twice to grind on rails as a speed type character(or something close to that)

all these years and i could never figure it out

To be honest, I favour the modern system of rail grinding. xD By that, I mean the one in Sonic Generations, Sonic Colours, and (I thinnkkk) Sonic Unleashed. It's simple and fun. The SA2 system was a good idea, but I found that I never really could get the hang of it. Nor the Heroes grinding system, for that matter. Shadow the Hedgehog is probably the first game that I really enjoyed rail grinding in.

Rated E for EVERYONE!!!
Well to be honest, I didn't like the grinding system in SA2 or Heroes. It gets better as time goes on though. I think I liked the grinding best in Unleashed.
