I already have the Wii, but I want to take the experience a few steps further with a 360 or PS3.

One problem though.

I'm not sure which one to buy.

Why do I not go to another site, like PS3 forums?

Because this seems to be the only site I could find were the community isn't completely biased.

The two are pretty similar and so are their game libraries. When it comes to graphical performance they're in a pretty dead heat too. You'd only notice differences if you played them both side by side. I suppose it depends more on what you want out of your console.

1) If you want a rich online gaming experience, go with the 360. Xbox Live Gold is not free but you do get a much better online experience for the money. You get a free mic with most console bundles and lag is less of a problem too.

2) If you're interested more in the technology side of things (like having a Bluray player) go with the PS3. I don't know about newer PS3s, but older ones have no region lockout so you can import games from Japan too if you like.

I have both, but I use the 360 a whole lot more because I like the online gaming component. The PS3 for me is mostly just used as a Bluray player and little else.

Well Ps3 certainly has a lot more platformers, if you're into that type of game, with LittleBigPlanet, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter, etc... I guess it all depends on your preferences for games but it just seems to me that 360 has lost most of its steam lately with Microsoft focusing most of its energy on Kinect and neglecting core games. They still have some good core games coming soon though like Halo and Gears of War. PS3 has still has some great core games coming out next year with Ni No Kuni, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War, etc... and is still in its stride when it comes to exclusive games. I personally think Sony takes more risks on the games they publish and have more of a variety of exclusives. Of course they both get lots of multiplatform games but the thing I don't like is because of Live you really are only buying the campaign portion of a game. You have to "rent" the online portion.

The thing is that Microsoft dumps their systems when the new one comes out, meaning when the new Xbox comes out they will stop supporting the 360 like they did the original Xbox. Sony on the other hand support their consoles well after the latest iteration comes out. Look at the PS2 it's still being sold and it still receives games. No real great games(pretty much just sports games) but it had great games even two years after the PS3 came out and this late into the game with new consoles potentially out in a year, that's something you want to consider.

@Nail - Lag is not a problem on PSN. I've never experienced lag and I've played 256 player battles on MAG. Resistance 2 with it 60 player battles had no lag either. Plus PS3 has several MMOs like DC Universe Online, Free Realms, White Knight Chronicles 2, etc that have no lag either. The only thing I see that Live has over PSN is voice messages and cross game chat. Most people have mics now days so that isn't a big problem like it used to be but Live does have a higher percentage with mics.

I would say PS3. I dunno. Adding onto what Neo says, who I agree perfectly with, if you're not really into shooters which seem like their biggest exclusive franchises, then you're probably not going to like most of their biggest exclusives. PS3 has more diversity.

It's a difficult choice I vaguer.
Though both has each their variation of qualities, I must add that PS3 owner's might have a future, whereas I fear that Microsoft will scrap the 360 as soon the next console are been released. It could very well be next year or in 2014. Who knows.

Natural I would say 360, but it's a bit of everyone's choice.
So even if I voted Xbox, for various reasons that Nail, perfectly explained in his view.

I'd say go for the PS3, unless your willing to wait till the new consoles arrive. Thus the disadvantage that new stuff, are usually more expensive.

Quite frankly my suggestion is, whether you want to, or not!
Both have great titles though. And even if some may look upon xbox as FPS oriented, it's bull.....!

If I've made your suggestion easier, I doubt it. All I'm saying is, both have equal share of games that'll give you tons of fun. It's just those specific titles that should ultimately lead to your decision.
And hey! If it's ever released and if you lover adventuring game style.
The Last Guardian, I'd love to try that out, but hey it's been said to release for the last three nearing four years now. Many things considered have caused the delay.

Good luck on your decision. ;)

Well while I own both consoles and I typically like them both, I do think PS3 is the better choice. Both consoles have their pros and cons, in the end it comes down to what you look for in games. Though there isn't really much I could say that hasn't been said already. But honestly the choice is yours and though it's nice to ask for opinions don't be rash in your decision as you don't wanna regret it later. A word of advice though is if you do snag an Xbox 360 be real careful with the slim models, they suck, seriously. Warranties are your best friend when it comes to Xbox 360s. :/ Believe me, I'm just speaking out of experience and not malice towards Microsoft.

I say 360 but it depends on your gaming standards. If you're into the online thing with a lot of challenge and enjoy playing with 12 year olds as well as having many gorgeous shoot em-ups like Radiant Silvergun (which you would be saving yourself $190) and Geometry Wars at your fingertips get a 360.
If you like PSX games then get a PS3. Both are the same as far as I've seen with graphics.
You get the better deal with both worlds. With the Failstation there's no paying for online but you get all the better titles on XBLA as far as cool space ship shooters go on a 360...
Decisions, decisions....

PS3.

Seriously, I regret to this day bothering with the Xbox360. I can't remember if I'm on my 2nd or 3rd one cause of how it would break down so easily.

The discs are also more durable for the ps3, the online doesn't need a "gold membership" pass, and lets face it, people say the "PS3 Has no games" but I can count more PS3 exclusive series then 360 Exclusives. The PS3 to me feels more like a game console(And Blue ray and regular dvd player I might say, which is also very nice. Not to mention the PS1 games I can get) and less like one of those arcade machines where you have to keep putting money in to keep playing(That the 360 made me feel like).
