Could another Ecco the Dolphin game be in the works? The designer of the original SEGA Genesis titles, Ed Annunziata, is pushing for a new title and so far signs are looking good! Scott Foe, a consultant on mobile and social games who worked with SEGA during the Dreamcast years, got Annunziata a meeting with SEGA to discuss reviving the franchise. Annunziata tweeted:

Ecco fans, I need you to follow & tweethank @scottfoe, he convinced SEGA to meet with me now chances of a new Ecco the Dolphin x100!

If that news wasn’t good enough, Annunziata later tweeted: “Spencer is on board! (puttn’ the band back together!) :) ”. Annunziata is referring to Spencer Nilsen, the man who composed the beautiful music for the original SEGA CD and Genesis games, as well as the American Sonic CD soundtrack. Could it truly be happening? A new Ecco game? While SEGA is being very careful when it comes to big budget disc releases, releasing another 2D Ecco title as a digital download is surely doable. Just look at Sonic 4, and another Ecco isn’t so crazy in that realm. Better yet, get Christian Whitehead to work on rereleases of the first two titles to accompany a new game.

Anyone else remember Ecco? I've honestly never played any of the games but I've heard good things about the series.

I still can't use this.

I tried the first Ecco at an age where I was never going to be capable of beating it. Sure enough, didn't got past the first level. It's insanely difficult and confusing to navigate. That being said, I wish this man luck, and wouldn't mind giving the franchise another go should he succeed, or at the very least if the original titles are put up for digital download.

But I thought the first game at least was on the Virtual Console and Steam. ??

=P I am connected to neither. I read the article assuming this effort would be extended to Live.

I really like Ecco, I'm hoping they not only release the game as official but also make an Ecco themed track in SASR:T or at least release him as playable...

I don't see how Ecco could be playable - he has no means of driving. =|

[insert something cheerful here]

I played an Ecco game once. Never understood it. :/

Which is a shame because it never stopped interesting me. Hopefully, this one won't be as confusing.

Angel Island Act 2
I played the old Genesis version and loved it... up until he lost the ability to breathe underwater. After that it was too nerve wracking. :P I'd love a chance to play it again. Hopefully I would be able to get past the second or third level this time.
I love programming! I work at Mommatown as a programmer on sites like Vincent Martella's, Don Leslie's and IPO Boutique. When I'm not doing that I'm usually writing game mods. <3
