Some people say Sonic Unleashed is Sonic Adventure 3. The truth is, while it does have some similarities, at best it is Sonic Adventure 4. Why? Because Sonic Adventure 3 is Sonic the Hedgehog 2006. Before you run away screaming, here's the things that make me think this, in a list that I will continue to add on to as I find new things that point towards this, and what game(s) it's like. >Multiple stories and playable characters. (SA1 and 2) >Power Ups (SA1 and 2) >Has a Chao In Space 3 poster (Chao in Space for SA1, Chao in Space for SA2) >HUB worlds (SA1) >Focus on story (SA1 and 2) >In SA1, against the final boss, you play as Super Sonic. In SA2, you play as Super Sonic and Super Shadow. In S06, you play as Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Super Silver. >Addition of a new Hedgehog (Shadow in SA2, Silver in S06) >Treasure hunting, as you find 3 keys as Rouge in Kingdom Valley (SA1 and 2) >Character Battles (SA1 and 2) Of course, I might be wrong about this, but if I am right, I just gave you another reason to hate Sonic 06. Feel free to discuss how right/wrong I am. Edited by FiniteZero, Nov 8 2012, 10:19 AM.

All of what you have said here is 100% true. I too treated Sonic 2006 as SA3, and Unleashed, although with only one playable character (two if you count werehog), does sound like SA4. I've only played the PS2 version, definitely considering getting the 360 version. |

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!

As much as I hate to admit it, you have something very promising here. While "technically" there is no real SA3, Sonic 06 is as close as we have to it. I would of hate to imagine if they slapped the SA3 title on the game. Would it have been more widely regarded as a "bad game"? Or would SEGA actually took there time with it. Oh well the past is the past, and I like your thoughts into it as well

Just thought I'd point out that this particular point, of a new Hedgehog being introduced in each entry, isn't quite as strong as the others. xD Because, really, SA didn't introduce a new hedgehog. Nor did it introduce Sonic, for that matter. The closest you've got in SA is probably Tikal, but even then she's kind of an echidna ghost. Still, I do see your point. At the very least, Sega took the proper themes to make '06 an 'SA3'. However, it honestly doesn't live up to any of my expectations for an SA3. At the very least, it should have tried to be SA in spirit. The music wasn't very SA-like, the graphics went for super-realistic (Albeit with a bit of a Final Fantasy twist for humans) as opposed to SA/SA2's semi-realistic but still quite cartoony graphics. If these points were more similar, I would most definitely accept '06 as an 'SA3'. In my opinion, Shadow the Hedgehog is a bit closer to an SA3 than '06 anyways. I mean, the plot actually is connected to SA and SA2. It does seem to have the same sort of spirit to the gameplay and music, even if it does give a bit more of a Shadow (and thus darker) focus. |

Hydrocity Act 2

While this does make sense.. I'm pretty sure it wasn't MEANT to be SA3, It was meant to be a "restart" of the sonic franchise, kinda in the way that SA1 was, see how Sonic 06 was the first Sonic that you could say "Fitted" in graphical terms with other games of the time. But I see what you mean, it definitely turned out to be a SA3.. WHY SEGA? |

> Multiple storylines and power ups While I can agree with you on the multiple storyline thing, the power up option is kind of redundant, considering they've been doing power ups since SA. Unleashed had it's own power up system where you can increase the effect on sonic's abilities and generations has a system where you "buy" items to add to sonic. >chao in space poster I can kind of agree with this one. >story all sonic games focus on story, as mediocre as they all may be, they've all had some kind of story. >super form Another redundant thing is the "super form" boss battles. Super form boss battles, as of SA1, are pretty much required in a sonic game. if we were to base a sonic adventure game off this, then every sonic game since SA2, would be considered an adventure game. >new character or hedgehog The addition of a new hedgehog or, character. Would, once again, be redundant as there have been plenty of new characters in almost every sonic game. I don't remember most of them but I do know there have been more than enough. >treasure hunting Treasure hunting I can kind of agree with but not by much. The only thing that would make a sonic game a new adventure game would be if the chao were apart of the game. The chao garden pretty much defines an adventure game. No chao, no adventure. I can only agree with you on 3 of the 7, but I wouldn't call 06 an adventure game because the multiple storylines mostly focused on sonic, shadow or silver and just relied on side characters to step in every once in awhile. Adventure 1 and 2 had separate stages for each character. that's my take on it. |

I didn't think of that first one, though the second one goes with the multiple stories. I'll add the first one to the list. Also, it seems that The Great Clement agrees with me. In his review of the game, he stated that it should have been called Sonic Adventure 3. |
