Thoughts on Sonic's Setting?

Though the years, Sonic has changed settings more often than not. The Classics had a kind of another world feeling, with things like Little Planet, Angel Island, and the old Mobius thing the cartoons and comics had. The Adventure era changed this for a more modern day earth feel, with humans, GUN, and cities becoming a staple level theme during that time. The modern games seesaw towards a realistic setting(Unleashed) or just use what seems to make a good game(Colors, Generations).

All of them have their draws, but what's your preferred setting for the Sonic series?

The Sonic Adventure era is the best
Agreed.

I always took the Japanese storyline as canon, so Sonic lives on Earth, in my opinion.

I object to your claims
To be perfectly honest, I prefer the cartoony realism of Unleashed and the other world-esque 'Mobius' settings of the classics.

I love the Sonic game beacuase they don't have the same boring settings over and over again they shake it up. it's also like trail and error if they don't get as many people liking the settings they'll try something else.

I wasn't much of a fan of the "zones" thing TBH, even before I was familiar with later games like Sonic Adventure. Nature isn't usually that clear cut when it comes to different ecoregions, and it seemed weird to have someone make artificially designated areas for different biomes or mechanical areas. Stuff like alliteration in level names, eg. Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos, just made more sense as level names than regional names. XD

I haven't had a chance to play Unleashed yet, so although the level design looks intriguing I can't really comment on it. I loved the Sonic Adventure games, though, especially how SA1 tied all the levels into the same regions, and SA2 gave us something of a map to illustrate where characters had been. (Even if the map itself didn't clear up much.) But I think Shadow the Hedgehog offered one of the most exciting clues, what with the map visible in the background. It really couldn't pass for our world, but it does look very much like an alternate Earth, or perhaps Earth set in the far future...
I love programming! I work at Mommatown as a programmer on sites like Vincent Martella's, Don Leslie's and IPO Boutique. When I'm not doing that I'm usually writing game mods. <3

I prefer the "other world" thing that the Classics had going on, to be honest. That was the main thing I disliked about Adventure, how Sonic and friends were the only non-humans. It just seemed sort of weird.

I preferred the classic style setting. The bright coloration and all the gimmicks did seem to be from another world. To have Mobius be Earth in any time, way, shape,or form has just never set well with me.

Gameplay for most games was great. Setting, Adventure-era forward was not always so great. In the type of series that the Sonic games are, humans (who aren't fat and obviously evil) rarely add to anything. Compared to the brightly-colored main cast who have special powers or abilities, humans just seem...well, boring, for lack of a better term.
To-Do List:

1) Write Signature.
2) Write To-Do List.

...no, really, that's my life in a nutshell.

I prefer the comic setting of Möbius over, say, the Sonic X style of Sonic and company being stranded on Earth.

It bothers me a bit for some reason...

I prefer the more classic, "whole different world" style to Sonic's setting. I love Adventure. Adventure's the best, but I just don't like the setting of it. I'm more for how it avoided Earth more in Unleashed and in the comics.
